  • From Luc Paquette on Clubhead Speed

Very new to this kind of teaching and focus but very interesting and so different than « positions » teaching. Can’t wait to see if 1) I’m able to execute 2) the effect on my club speed. The trowing of clubs will have to be replace with something else however (January in Québec…) 🤷‍♂️😊

  • From Gregg Carr on Ball Position & Distance to Ball

I like this video very much. The arc of the swing and where the club bottoms out is hard for me to visualize. My buddy’s swing when he rehearses always has the club bottoming out past the ball. When I swing it always is at or before the ball. What can I do to correct this. Sorry for being so wordy

When you make your practice swing, you want to send that divot of grass TOWARDS THE TARGET! Not just make an empty headed practice swing while looking at the grass! See the “task update” and “kinetic chain facilitation series” #6! See from the drone view how the divot ALWAYS STARTS FROM CENTRE OF STANCE towards the target when your focus is to deliver the turf over the intermediate point towards the target! 👍😀

Hi Shawn! I am starting my 3rd year in golf. With my driver, I am told that I am too slow and I pause between take away and top of my backswing. The contact with the ball is always good however but I have a « plateau » for distance. I am not sure if its speed fear or because I have learn golf with the body position in space technique? Is there a drill for improving the fluidity of my back swing? merci ☺️

Hi Hélène! Please do not worry about that; Hideki Matsuyama tried to get rid of his pause at the top and his ball striking has fallen off a bit (they were talking about that this morning with Brandel Chamblee)
What is important for speed, is the ability to deliver the swing’s action release in the direction you want the ball to start. Work on feeling the FULL RELEASE (see all the release videos by typing the word “release” in the search box at the top of the list of videos by date)
Then you see the “throw the club” and the “throwing series”
Then you see the “goldie locks series”
Then you see the “target confirmation series” and “kinetic chain facilitation series” and “task update” video.
Enjoy! As you should have a NATURAL PAUSE at the top of the swing when you don’t fight with your swing and throw the club with EASE and VELOCITY towards the direction you want to start the ball.

  • From [email protected] on NEW LEAD HAND BACKSWING

Hi Shawn, Thanks for the video. When I practice this, especially feet apart, it reminds me a lot of the feeling of a tennis back hand with top spin that you rip cross court. It has the turn it has the legs for power… Is that right?

  • From Chris Fung on Brandel Chamblee - Anatomy of Greatness Book

In the transition, I need to shift my weight with my back facing target. How much weight has to shift to the lead foot? 80-90%? Or shift the weight just enough to clear my hip ? If more weight shifted, generate more power?

    • From Shawn Clement on Brandel Chamblee - Anatomy of Greatness Book

Hi Chris! There is no way for you to micro manage this action without the task; when you throw the club to a specific target, the brain has to go to the ground to secure the kinetic chain with the lead leg, and depending on the direction, the height, the lie and the stance, it will know exactly how much to shift so that it can remove the body out of the way at just the right amount so that the arms can be brought through in that direction. This works at 40 million bits of info per second. You thinking about it works at 40 bits per second, one thing at a time and is a massive sabotage to the whole deal. So:
1-get good at throwing the club
2-see the first “off season training series” and there is a great sequence in there where we walk and throw the club in perpetual motion for your mind to become aware of the feel while you are doing the task continuously without thinking about it.
3-see “kinetic chain facilitation series” to polish and feel more depth in the movement.

Thx, i started to understand the throwing the club concept after i tested. I start to swing the club easy back and forth . Then, i pretend to throw the club further and without adding force from my arms, the body automatically do the squat and jump up during downswing and release. Also, i hear the swish sound during this action so i know the swing is faster. Is my testing and understanding correct?

Now , in Hong Kong, all the sports facilities are closed so that I practice inside my home. Only chip n small pitch is allowed. I discovered on my pitching, my club hit the low point inconsistently, what’s wrong with me? My focus is off or what?

  • From Les Gross on NEW LEAD HAND BACKSWING

I learnt to play in the early ‘70s. Back then we turned our bodies around our locked trail knee and kept our head down and lead arm straight. I got to be not too bad tee to green back then. Not so great now in my stiffer ’60s. I know how much your method makes sense to me and I have managed to incorporate many aspects of it to my game to great effect. My biggest roadblock is the straightening of my legs in the backswing and “getting the ground” in the downswing. The footage of Bryson in his backswing is spot on. I have a great problem getting the ground at a constant level to strike the ball consistently well. I hit a lot of thin shots, interspersed with some fat wrist breakers. Do you have any suggestions for getting the ground with consistent ball striking? Cheers. Les

    • From Shawn Clement on NEW LEAD HAND BACKSWING

You bet Les! The feet together drill first; to be able to finish the backswing, BOTH legs must be allowed to come up as the pelvis and ribcage turn out of the way. Then to activate the legs in the downswing, focus on TASK, and feel a nice throw of the club in the direction you want to start the ball.
see “feet together drill” and “feet together back to feet apart” which is all about ground forces; then see “pumping up the swing volume” and “kinetic chain facilitation series”

  • From Anthony Pollen on Driver

Shawn. Sorry to bother you with another question. I have watched the battering ram, blur and driver tilt videos. This morning at the range (mats) I found that having found the bottom of the arc with my driver and address the ball from here, when I made my stroke I tended to hit the ground where it bottomed out. I am sure you have encountered this before. Any direction will be appreciated.

Hey Anthony! Sorry I missed this one! You simply want to pre-deploy your arc into dynamic action like the ball on a string analogy. Go to the “throwing series” and see the Driver version with the “hammer throw” comparison! You will love it!

  • From Donald Moir on SLOW MOTION- FAIRWAY WOOD FADE

Hi, Shawn. The slo-mos made me notice the trail foot heel stamp to initiate. I’ve been trying it out. Helpful.

My question: help in understanding low point for fairway wood / hybrids. With those, at setup, center of clubhead mass is centre of stance (in line with sternal notch), a position which I associate with low point of swing (all of those videos where you start with single arm shoulder swing then move to sternal notch). Yet the “thump” you mention with fairway wood / hybrid swing comes just after (target-side) of ball, which to me also says “low point”. Not sure how to put those together. Thank you.

    • From Shawn Clement on SLOW MOTION- FAIRWAY WOOD FADE

Hey Donald! Sorry I missed this one! I got the perfect view for you! Go to the “kinetic chain facilitation series” and see the “sending the divot peels into the bush while walking” drill which I do with the irons AND fairway woods. You will see that the SHAVING OF GRASS BEGINS FROM CENTRE AND MOVES FORWARD ALONG THE GROUND FROM THERE. Because the centre of mass of the woods are behind the shaft, the face is more shallow as well, we need to play the ball a tad more forward that with the irons and we have a better buffer zone of success from there; but you always want to MATCH THE BALL POSITION WITH THE DIRECTION YOU ARE GOING TO DELIVER YOUR RELEASE INTO. So make sure you take the time to practice simple “goldie locks” at address to feel what is too forward, then too back then just right for that particular shot.

So obvious that you cannot “reroute” a sledge hammer at starting of the downswing especially feet together. Good stuff to practice and incorporate in my practice sessions to get rid of this “rerouting”. Thanks Shawn and will let you know the progress…

  • From [email protected] on ARC- BLUR KINETIC CHAIN | WOODS AND DRIVER - GREAT SWING SEQUENCE TOO!

you always speak about the legs are doing the work, being the motor of the swing, does that mean that the swing from the top of the BS is a pulling motion into the DPosition and then further to release? thanks, regards ernst

    • From Shawn Clement on ARC- BLUR KINETIC CHAIN | WOODS AND DRIVER - GREAT SWING SEQUENCE TOO!

Hi Ernst! When you see the “kinetic chain series” you realize that the golf swing is 2 kinetic chains with a sweet transition at the top of the backswing like in the “using the weight in your swing-axe drill with Savy” Then see “kinetic chain facilitation series” and you will see that the engagement of the kinetic chain from the ground up is what pulls the arms and club down and through to the direction of the target.

  • From Anthony Pollen on PERPETUAL MOTION DRILL SERIES-CHIPPING ACTION

Shawn. I have always chipped reasonably well with ball about centred using the bounce of the club. I like your method of chipping using the low point as the measure for ball position and look forward to working on this method. However, when I have been chipping previously, without warning, my left hand grip would go vice like on the downswing and I would chunk it. How can I avoid this with your chipping method?
    Thanks,
    Anthony

    • From Shawn Clement on PERPETUAL MOTION DRILL SERIES-CHIPPING ACTION

Hi Anthony! Your brain does not have an evil side to it ready to snatch the club and sabotage your chip shots!!! Your issues can always be traced back to the thoughts your were having just before you made your swing!!
-were you getting ready to use the weight of the arms and club to cut through a dandelion stem along the ground into the direction of the intermediate point and did you feel you had the right amount of momentum to land the ball on the spot you needed to to then roll into the hole?
-or did you see a ball and wanted to make sure you did not chunk it?
1-always always always see, feel and hear what you want with the flight plan
2-make your prediction: When you let the weight of the arms cut the grass in the direction of the intermediate point, does it feel like the stem of the dandelion will get cut first and then the grass in front of it after?
3-Goldie locks the amount of momentum if you are not sure to get rid of any possible interference in the swing.
4-stay with the task at all costs, make your observations after the fact
