Shawn, I really enjoy your videos and just renewed (October 1st) my Premium Memebership. I use Golf Pride align grips with the ridge in back of the grip. When I use a stronger grip the Golf Pride logo is significantly to the left and obviously the align ridge is not lined up. Question: is this correct, just want to verify that I am doing the strong grip correctly.
Thanks
Scott
Hi Scott! Yes, this would be correct!
When you turn the grip in your hands to close the face, the logo will be positioned in a different place for sure!
The reminder will simply be in a different spot to remind you! 😀👍
Bottom line is that when you let the club release you in the direction you want to start the ball, the ball is flying the way you like!

I watched all the grip videos and went to the range feeling pretty optimistic, but left disappointed in myself. I definitely felt powerful and was hitting good distance, but most of my shots were painful. I think they may have been hitting off the toe or hitting thin. I have raw spots all over both hands.
One issue I noticed is that I became incapable of producing a smooth, effortless swing. It just felt forced. The grip strength I needed to keep the club from shifting in my hands caused a lot of arm and wrist tension, which made it difficult to feel the weight of the club for that natural swing and wrist rotation.
I’m a fairly new golfer so I could be doing any number of silly things. I’d send a video but I have so much to think about that there isnt really an instinctive swing to correct. How I swing one day might be have totally different defects than on another day.
I was intending on watching grip videos, practicing, then going to posture, practicing etc… but now I’m wondering if I should just marathon all the fundamentals videos and hope something clicks.
Go straight to the videos on task; see “top 3 tasks” and “task trumps everything”
This will center and focus you and then you can work on the things that will allow you to perform the tasks better.

I changed from a light as you can grip pressure(2-3) to 8-10 after watching your youtube video on topic. Without a doubt the quickest and most dramatic change I’ve ever experienced – 8 iron took 10-15 yards of hook curve off ball – nailing it straight now with yard or two of curve. Driver compression with this tight grip makes me smile on every shot – simply amazing, thanks Shawn!
There you are man! Thank you for the important feedback and contribution to the game! Shawn
Hi Shawn.
I’ve been closing the club face while practicing some wedge and short irons recently and have been getting great results. The feel when I hit the ball with my gap wedge is so much more crisp, distance is much better and ball flight straighter. I’d say I have a neutral grip, and have been closing the clubface at set up so the toe points to 10 o’clock. However, I find when I go back to a driver, wood or hybrid and close the face this much it doesn’t work very well at all. Should the grip/club face be the same through out the bag assuming you were wanting to hit the same shaped shot?
Hybrids and fairway woods are more draw biased and the club face LOOKS MORE OPEN than it actually is and most golfers end up closing it too much.
I need to check my Premium more often, rather than relying just on YouTube posts. Didn’t know about the interlocking grip change. I’ve felt the same as you, but kept overlapping to stick with your initial grip approach. I think I will be much more solid interlocking, and I also needed that “throw” thought reminder. Looking forward to putting this into course practice. Anything different with driver? Thanks!
Haha, yes, and especially in the next 12 months!! Huge stuff coming!
