So I have a damaged left elbow and I’m not able to straighten my arm (think Calvin Peete). When I take my swing, I swear it doesn’t feel like I can get my right hip out of the way because the club is moving back into my body moving left. When I fight it, I end up moving my right hip into the ball and to avoid my arms crashing they’re moving out too. So, on my solid hits the ball is creeping in to the heel (hosel) of the club and it is hard to release the club toward the target…….and I can hit hit some darn solid hosel balls. When I pull back I’m hitting toe/pulls…….it doesn’t feel natural/easy or attainable…….very frustrating.

When I set up square and then drop my right foot back a few inches it all of a sudden feels like I can easily swing to my IP and “plane wood” in that direction. It feels like I’m out of the way so I can swing.

I mean it’s definitely not conventional but good grief it feels ten-fold better……and no one has ever suggested this to me. Before the accident, I was playing to a 4 handicap and I have pretty much quit playing because I just cant hit the ball the way I used to or want to.

Since applying some of the WIG principals and becoming more target oriented I feel as though there has been progress…….no break thrus but progress. So my question is do you think I can progress with WIG principals playing a slightly diagonal stance? Thanks!

Thanks Shawn….perhaps if I had watched the whole series before I commented I would have answered my own question. I was most optimistic when I watched the video and you were playing the lob wedge. Guess I had always considered this an option when playing the longer clubs……but not so much with the short ones.

Thanks again.

Shawn – good video! I’ve been struggling with slice. This lesson and football drill helped me tremendously. The big take away for me was that I was not completing my backswing. Completing the back swing with my elbow on task for throwing the football at target through intermediate target produced nice ball flight with no slice. Hit driver 270 yards….not bad for 62+ years old.

Shawn – what is the point of using the diagonal stance? What advantages does it provide?

JOHN KANE MD

Great video! I have been trying the Diagonal Stance BUT I was under the impression that the IP could be a foot or more forward of the ball. Now I understand you want it much closer. Going to try tomorrow. Thanks for all the work you put into these wonderful videos .
