  • From Micki Olin on Kinetic Chain - Part 3

After watching this – I gained 20-25 yards on my 7 iron. But my driver is still stuck at 220 yards total. – Must watch the driver series again 🙂

Very much like the forearms rotating at 2:02 in video. Hardest thing for me has been to stop thinking of “positions” when I am executing my golf swing; well that and not straining. Any free your mind/stop straining videos?

      Hi Philip! You bet!
see the “lead hand release” and “trail hand release” videos and then “release fine tuning” and snap release polish” videos. Then get some turbo to the release with “turbo charge lead hand and trail hand release” and “arc blur unstoppable momentum series”

Shawn I noticed your lead arm forms a straight line with the club at address. Is this important?

Hi Colin! This is a natural thing that happens when you are in the process of delivering a task through the ball and towards the direction you want to start the ball with momentum. You never want to feel that you are placing anything statically at address but rather react to the flight plan with existing momentum. See “perpetual motion drill series” as well as the “arc blur unstoppable momentum series”

    Hi Shawn,

Appreciate all your videos ove the years. My iron play has improved but still frustrated with Driver. I wish I had the success that dlpikester has. I try to have to same thoughts and actions (knife the grip, closed face, slow and wide, effortless, staying behind door frame, over an intermidiate point) that seems to work of with irons, and even three wood as of late, but with driver I either hit a powerful low straight pull to left or high right of target that tails farther right. Niether shot would be in play. Even with a strong grip the 1out of 10 drives I hit on my target line tails like a fade. Any suggestions?

Hey Man! Sorry I missed this one! Definitely see “tilt mile markers” and “head and hip swivel” along with “uphill shots” and you also want to combine that with “diagonal stance series” which is huge for the driver! Let me know how you do and if I don’t answer within 48 hours, something did mot deliver properly to my in-box; so please dom’t be shy and send an email to [email protected] ok?

  • From [email protected] on SUPER SIMPLE BASICS SERIES | PART 3 | IRONS DRAW

Thanks Shawn – I need to try the idea of sawing through with the face closed – toe to heel…I get that with a fade (heel to toe – I do that with the driver) but use cutting like a knife square to the direction of my throw with the irons. I love how I get a new nugget every time I listen! But my question is this; I have to think of the end of kinetic chain (elbows, wrists/handle, club face) as a unit and throwing that whole thing (as opposed to just the club) in the direction I want to throw grass, it helps with the football toss feel. If I maintain a good connected feel to the ground through my back swing, it seems to work well….but before I get too far down the way with that, is there a flaw with that feel? Tom

  • From Neil Shank on Release Fine Tuning

Shawn, I am new to your site and absolutely love your method.I recently tore a couple of intercostal muscles in my ribs and decided then I had to try a different approach to golf. I have been going through the lessons and it hasbeen hit or miss. I was on the range today in 31 degree German weather and decided to slow my swing down and found that the feeling of throwing the club helped my swing. I was not getting a proper release. Funny thing happened, I thought because it was cold I was only hitting my 7 iron 150 yards and was confused because I was makex basted solid contact and on target with my midpoint target. Then I looked at my club and found out it was my 9 iron. I really love and appreciate this wonderful and effortless swing. I think my problem was not letting go for the release and was cighting the gravity pull. What are your thoughts and I do think throwing the club towards my target was finally my aha moment. Amazing and thanks for all your wisdom! You’re great!

Right on Neil! You are now on the roller coaster and all you need to do is stay on it. You will have highs and lows but the peaks and valleys will naturally point upwards and you will enjoy the ah ha moments along the way! 😀👍
-next is to polish your release so that when you throw the club, the weight of the club will release your arm anatomy to anchor your shots into the flight plan. See also “blur of club” and the “arc blur unstoppable momentum series” after you have seen and practiced the “lead hand release”-“trail hand release”-“release fine tuning” and “snap release polish videos”-as you continue to get good with your throwing, you will see “turbo charge lead hand and trail hand release” and “the goldie locks series” and predict contact” to have the ball perfectly in the way of your throwing action. Keep us posted with your progress please!

I’m unlearning holding the club like a bird. To unlearn this, I found throwing the club helpful, and watching this video, + The Grip video, a bunch of times throughout my journey. Slight improvements/adjustments every time.

Shawn, premium member here and as a testament to your instruction I’m down to a 7.5 hcp from a 15 from 2 years ago ….when I started watching your videos…so thanks a bunch for your method of teaching (Goldie locks, task focus and weight of arm-club unit!) it REALLY WORKS!

My question is how do you get the feeling of low effort, like a 2/10….but give yourself the task of increasing the speed to 7, 8, or 9 out of ten? When I try to increase speed my strain goes up 👎🏻.. and the results usually a pull or a hook. Where is the speed coming from …or what is the feeling/focus …when you keep the effort the same?

I think if I can figure that out I’ll have less mis-hits and get down to a 5 or less handicap! 👍🏻😁🏌️‍♂️

Hi Shawn, I’ve watched your videos for a few years and finally decided to join the premium section. I’m so glad that I did. So many good drills and I especially like the pre-setting of the head and keeping it there until the right shoulder collects it. I tend to allow my head to move forward (in an effort to shift my weight forward) and hit pull hooks. I now know that I don’t physically have to “shift” my weight forward.
I also love the success you have had with Savannah and find her so inspiring.

  • From Bret McInnis on SUPER SIMPLE BASICS SERIES | PART 5 | FAIRWAY WOODS & HYBRIDS

Hello! First comment so go easy on me! I have been working on this series for a few weeks now and I seem to be making progress with the short irons (8,9,PW) but the longer clubs (3H, 3W) are much more difficult when it comes to consistency. I have managed to move the ball back to middle with shorter clubs and now can goldilocks the draw all the way up to 2000 Left sidespin on my Skytrak (where do you like to see this number and how many degrees right do you typically like to start it for yourself or would recommend to us?). I seem to have a tendency to lose the release w longer clubs and hit that awful block fade to the right more often than I would like. Any suggestions? Feet together w the 3W? Any thoughts would be welcome but I see progress on my distance and consistency of contact w shorter clubs and want to keep making progress! Or, from this video, should I work on a fade starting it left a little and work my way towards a draw with longer clubs? Thank you!

    • From Shawn Clement on SUPER SIMPLE BASICS SERIES | PART 5 | FAIRWAY WOODS & HYBRIDS

Hi Bret! Ok, great questions; for spin rates, the wedges and short irons can go quite high for DRAW side spin, my 7 iron is 5 to 8 degrees right and 700 to 1000 side spin left; then with woods it’s much less to inside 200 to 400 side spin in either direction; fade or draw.
Longer clubs are naturally harder because of length and loft but no worries, they will eventually fall in line. Distance to ball is a big one there; so see “the goldie locks series” and get really good at all 4! Have sessions at home of just setting up to get ready to deliver your task to target and feel if the set up would allow you to stay with it and let momentum ride it all the way to the finish!

  • From David Naylor on FALL FALL

Shawn , as I let the arms fall from the ‘na na na ‘ moment sometimes I feel the club touch me on the back .. where I’m trying to soften things on the way down I think I’m collapsing ? Is it arm tone? I have plenty of hip turn

    • From Shawn Clement on FALL FALL

That would be my guess too David; you want to feel that the ACU is falling wide to deliver grass clippings into the direction you want to start the ball and into the finish. If your arms don’t have enough tone in the structure, they won’t make it out here.

4 months in and completely lost it, started as an 8 handicap. after 2 weeks of following this was gaining massive distantce… hitting driver in meters (250-270) (I am 65) (9 iron was my 165 club) Was straighter and longer. Then doubt crept in as i hit more misses, and lost the feel of this. Tried drills but cant find it. I am now a 13 handicap, hitting low left to left snap hooks constantly, barely hitting 9 iron 130 yards (have lost 3 clubs in length) I have gone back to to many of the videos and just gets worse, I hit so steep. I am seriously at the point of walking away from golf now for weeks to forget everything.

Your theories are great, but walking through this premium site is very difficult and I am at such a loss.

    right now I hate golf

thought about doing the 1 lesson, but one swing video wont say a thing about the massive confusion in my hear and swing

No way you are quitting on my watch and absolutely I will find what the short circuit is and I already have a good idea of what it is! So important for you to know that you are not defective and that you cannot do anything wrong. Please send me a 7 iron clip face on and down the line and I will get you on track and focus you in the right areas of this website. You just can’t replace the 1-1 sometimes and this is one of those times. I expect to see these soon!
