You bet! First remember you are not defective! I have a great video on youtube that pertains to this in response to Brooks at one of his majors he almost lost because they thought this was an issue causing pulled shots. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJEprEUOyJg&t=164s

Thanks Shawn, I think the biggest problem is my trail hand. I’m right hand dominant and right hand golf. Even when I throw the club it tends to want to go a bit left because my right hand wants to take over the throw. Any tips for that?

Yes! Start with the “stop pushing with the right hand” video right here on premium and my big breakthrough personally this week is a 2.0 of this and I will be adding it to premium soon! 😀👍https://wisdomingolfpremium.com/arm-swing-body-turn/comment-page-3/#comment-10730

Hey coach, I’ve been watching all your videos and working on my swing in the garage. I can’t seem to cast the videos to my tv in the garage. I googled it and it says it may be turned off by the creator. Is there a reason why it’s turned off? I’d like to practice the drills off the tv rather than my tiny phone. YouTube works great but maybe it’s because the Vimeo videos are behind a paywall? That’s the only thing I can think of lol

Hi Derek! You got me there; this is a new one for me and I don’t think it’s a problem from here; because you are getting it on your phone it should broadcast on your screen no problem.

    Hi Shawn,
so my question is regarding the woods and driver . My grip is strong with face slightly closed , All my Irons are consistently going in the direction of my intended target .(Great problem to have ! ) however this grip does not result in good contact & ball flight with the woods and driver ( mostly low over drawn shot shape ), so to correct this i do not close the face during grip and the ball flight and direction is on target consistently , so does this tell me to use 2 different grips ? or am i missing something in my swing when hitting the woods ?

Hi Tommy! Sorry for the delay; just got back from the Mexico Open; crazy week out there! 😝😀
the woods and driver ARE FUNDAMENTALLY DIFFERENT CLUBS than the irons; some of my students need to close the face more and some need to open more compared to the irons; you simply deliver your action-task into the direction you want to start the ball and observe the flight, see a pattern, then adjust accordingly. Now if your backswing is more inside than it should be with woods and driver, this can also adversely affect the flight to a hook; so see “match backswing to ball direction” to confirm that the momentum is flowing in the proper direction as well!

I’ve always struggled w the backswing in your method Shawn. I ended up sort of using a diff backswing then releasing over the IP w momentum.

The feel of oily shoulders was what I was missing. Thanks for another gem.

I’m now feeling like the legs just start the back and the downswing. Envisioning that I’m in my follow through already, “watching” the club come back and just allowing my body to react to that is an incredibly freeing feeling.

When I look at my first swing I sent you and look at my current swing it’s night and day. So much more freedom. Still can get out of sequence sometimes but as long as I start from the ground up it all clicks!

  • From Matthew Costello on Maintaining Dynamic Posture

Wow! This was a HUGE missing link. I didn’t have these boards so I just felt like my ankles were rolled in slightly so the weight was pushed to the inside of my feet, then I just felt like after I released that the club pulled me into extension vs both happening at the same time.

Wow! Can you play w that type of inside foot pressure feel / ankles rolled in slightly? This seems to really stabilize everything in the lower half and allows for maximum engagement of the legs?

Right on Matthew! Getting a good feel for this at first is key to unlocking the swivel of the pelvis in the swing; see “head and hip swivel” as a great add on and then reinforce this with the “perpetual motion drill” series.

    Hi Shawn,
Over the last few weeks, been experimenting with
    Ball position and
    Where to keep my eyes.

Ball position I find I have always had the tendency to keep the ball forward in my stance, its only after learning your swing I have had the confidence of moving it back. For fairway woods more towards my inner left heel. Resulting in pulling left. A good round turns to a bad one with these pulls. Trying to gain confidence with the ball between center and the left heel. Specially off the Tee, with better results for now.

For irons (shorter ones 8,9,pw,sw) I am finding by keeping my eyes (just before I start my backswing) on a spot just ahead of the ball towards the target line / or IP, not only is there a repeatability in my shots which by the way are pure right from the word go but also the tendency to pull seems to have reduced greatly.

Still trying to figure out where exactly should I keep my eyes, if I keep them just a little right ( trying to feel that the club will go out) the ball starts there and stays there, while keeping it straight at target always ends up (no draw) left of the target.

I tried the axe drill, was a disaster, ended up taking such deep divots was afraid I might strike oil, so I discontinued. Sending you my latest videos tomorrow.
Thank you for all the guidance.

I love eyes in front; and using momentum to RELEASE the grass clippings into the direction I want to start the ball; not place them there; remember that releasing to the right must mean that your grip and club relationship feels closed enough that you feel and know the ball will come back for you.

      Hi Shawn,
Didn’t understand when you say “not place them there;”.

Keeping the eyes in front definitely has reduced my pulls or the draws I was hitting going away from the flag instead of towards, I understand throwing grass clippings towards the target but didn’t understand not place them there; bit.

Also earlier I would take an IP and hit left or right of it for shaping it, when my eyes are ahead then I need to be at the exact direction, hitting even slightly right takes the ball right and vice a versa.

Sent you a video Sir, do take a look when you are free.

      Thank you.

Not placing them there means “using momentum to deliver them” and not manipulating the club to make sure they go there.

Don’t shove the blades of grass to target; use momentum to whip the blades there…

Shawn, did a session indoors. Is there a huge difference in hitting at the screen vs actually hitting out in the open.
Some of my numbers as far as distance is concerned,

My Driver outdoor carries 260 and rolls about 10 yards – 270 y
    my 3w carried 230 and rolled around 10 yards – 240 y
    and my 7w carrried 210 and rolled about 10 yards – 220 y
These are an average over a few days
    but my indoor showed
Driver 275 and roll 25 yards,
    3w 245y and rolled 20 yards
and 5w carried 235 yards and rolled 20 yards.

How accurate is the indoor vs outdoor.
    Thanks

Depends on the simulator you have; the GC Quad we use is the gold standard for all tour players; it was 2 yards on point with Brandon Wu’s tee shot on number 5 from 210 yards when we played with him this week at the Mexico Open Pro Am Savannah and I. I have a video clip I will put on the instagram right now actually to show you. Then you can adjust the Sim to soft conditions to simulate your course as well.

I am a right-handed golfer and finally playing with a very strong grip like Sav. Am I correct in saying that the knuckle of my right index finger is facing the ground when the club strikes the ball at impact? [email protected]

  • From Ryan Logsdon on IMPORTANT GRIP UPDATE

    Hi Shawn,
I know in previous comments you mention 10-finger grip is every bit as viable as interlock or overlap. Is there any reason why most people don’t use this grip? To me at least it seems by far the most comfortable/natural (am a formal baseball player so could be some bias) but you don’t see any tour pros using it. Is there any kind of negatives to using it especially if I’m someone built more like Mu? Also fun fact I played baseball growing up with the MLB player you used, can confirm lots of power!

Yes! Wow, blast from the past! Keeping the head behind the unit and tilting just enough to deliver the club through the garage door along the ground and out to target and then let the shoulder collect the head after the release i to the finish; good stuff Mark!

  • From Scott Sepkowicz on TASK 2.0 DRIVER BLUR

Hey Shawn! What’s a common reason for “drop kicking” the driver (often resulting in topped, low duck hooks)? I struggle with this at times and have a hunch that it has to do with trying to hit the ball on the way up, but too much.

I feel it is especially when I’m starting with the center of the club grounded in the middle of my stance as you do, since the low point of the club is touching the ground, it seems there’d be a small margin of error to not actually hit the ground.

I also suspect I may be either over tilting, or trying to see the “blur” as too much of a straight line back and through towards my intermediate point (but upwards), as opposed to an arc, which makes me manipulate too much and results in hitting the ground/drop kicking. Appreciate any insight!

    • From Shawn Clement on TASK 2.0 DRIVER BLUR

Hey Scott! Yes, you are on the right track; what I would do is see the “driver for accuracy” video and start there just like a fairway wood and use the ground as your guide for low point. And ABSOLUTELY USE THE LASSO OR THE HAMMER THROW and let the g-forces make the arc for you and see “hammer throw driver” video but use that technique in tandem with the “driver for accuracy” video. Then build from there!
