I have had many conversations with Brandel; he is still stuck on positions though; while we have graduated to tasks that bring out the positions without thinking! We will keep chipping away at him…👍😀
It turns out that I haven’t been looking at the ball when I drive, nor have I been initiating the swing from the ground. Doing these two things gave me my best Skytrak session; 6 out 6 in bounds, avg 231 yards carry, 255 total and dispersion was -13 to + 15 yards (average 0). I suspect I have more power to gain from fine-tuning the sequence – but if I could deliver those numbers on the course I’d probably drop six shots because they’re longer and straighter than anything I’ve hit before.
Shawn, I’ve been struggling to find the right ball position with my 5 or 3 wood. I feel like I can usually get it right to create a draw or fade with my driver and my irons, but I haven’t got the right feel for the 5 or 3 wood. Any suggestions? John
Hi Shawn, I have been letting the “weight of the hammer” release me, as noted in your lessons on “trail hand release” and “lead hand release”. How does the active emphatic release taught in this video come in? Is this an alternate approach?
Hi Shawn, I am a new Eagel member from Norway (12 HCP). I struggling with fat shots special with long irons and woods. Is The battering ram exercise a god way to cure that issue? I also have tendency of early release. Lokking forward for your feed back and practice tips. Kind regards Egil
Sorry I missed this one; it was day 1 in Florida last week and I just got back so thank you formyour patience!
With the longer clubs, check your distance to ball first; make sure that you are “pre-deployed” with your ball and string at address and feeling that the swing is already tracking from the shoulder sockets down.
Never focus on ball contact to face; always focus on sole of club shaving through grass towards the target with a nice whipping action! I would use battering ram for chipping-pitching and full swing short irons.
Shawn, I recently became an Eagle member a few days ago but have followed your videos and instruction on YouTube for some time. One of my major “hang-ups” is getting the squat and allowing my body to use gravity to get the club through to the target. Is this the catapult analogy you use in several videos or is there another “feel/drill” that I should be aware of?
O, is It possible I hit The ball fat becours The distance from The ball is to fare? When I look at The video compared to my set up it looks like I have more distace to The ball…. Thanks for answer Shawn…
Shawn, when I watch the kinetic chain videos and listen to the instruction…”get the ground”, it seems that there is a lot of movement….body up/body down…seems I’d be hitting “chunk shots” all day. What am I missing?
When you are focused on feeling a full release in the direction you want to start the ball, you should get this without thinking about it; it is to say that if you feel the up and down, don’t try to fix that; let it be! But don’t try to MAKE THE UP AND DOWN HAPPEN, it is up to the release to that target!
We your feet apart, you seem to be setting up with your feet ca. 15-20° open to the target line. Correct? I assume this is to help clear the body out of the way.
At set up you have your wedge open to the target (I think you said 10°). What is your intermediate point? For a ‘draw’, I assume that it would be more right of target than the face. Correct?
What about chipping with stronger clubs, say a 7 iron. Still set up with the face open?
Thanks.
Chipping is face slightly open; 7 iron is ok; but just slightly so that the leading edge does not catch; intermediate point is what you can find! :). Line up square and release to right of this alignement for the draw; Shawn
Hi Shawn,I have a problem with alignment with position of my feet,if I take 3 or 4 practice swings to find out where the club is bottoming out.,I usually make good contact with the ball.I was taught if the club bottoms out 4 to 5 inches in front of the ball then I will make good contact .Is this a good thought?I also seem to want to accelerate though the ball harder at impact..Am I on the right or wrong path..any suggestions will be helpful.thanks Jim
I love watching the overhead views shawn..you can clearly see your whipping technique, especially with your right arm…It all makes complete sense in your other videos when you explain the whip needed to increase the club head speed..thanks once again for a most informative golf instruction shawn.
Wow my chipping was really poor as I’m a high HCper but this seems to work well ( on the carpet ) looking forward to watching the other videos on chipping . When I open the club my ball seems to go right so I’ll stay neutral till I watch some more vids 😁
Good stuff!
Make sure what you look at at address is the little sliver of grass between leading edge of club and ball and what the mind sees is the leading edge cutting through the stem of the dandelion in the direction of the intermediate point. Never let the ball become the focus and never try to put the ball on the face.
Keep at it! 🙂
The latest consistency series videos are all about that; also look at the “club speed” video in premium which is all about throwing the club! Different version of the same catapult; and use the feet together drill to getbthe full feel of it!
Brilliant series , the catapult has helped me no end . I find the practice swing over my ball is absolutely fantastic was struggling with the draw and that has fixed it . Any chance of some “lefty” videos the series with your daughter and videos with Matt are great for me as a “lefty” . And I know you can play both , very little lefty instruction out there ! We have to switch everything about to suit
Congrats on the new gig Shawn. Thanks for the great video (#10). Put it to the test today with my new driver. Whoohoo! Hitting some great drives. The Long Irons are a different story but I’ll keep working on that. Thanks again.
