Thanks to all your students Shawn. I am seeing issues that I have and some ideas on how to overcome them. How I wish I had the same supple swing that your daughter displayed! Too old , too broken to ever emulate that swing though.

Which task seems to be doing the trick with you?

    Shawn,

New guy here only been on board with you a few week. I had seen in one video something about head tilt and placement. As your head is always tilted back towards trailing shoulder. I used to think that was a left eye dominant player. Is that true or is it a structural thing I need to be doing. Maybe i just missed it some how. If so please let me know where to find it. Dam Hurry up spring!!!

    Thanks,

    John

Staying on task has been the most helpful concept for me Shawn. Having the visualized shot in mind and having to release the club over the intermediate point to the target is much easier than a plethora of information going through the brain as I swing.

Having said that, I have gained a wealth of clarity on many concepts I have learned from other You Tube instructors by watching your videos. I have finally worked out my grip, stance distance to the ball, how to slow down my back swing and why, fade/draw method, reliable chipping.

I have struggled with driving accuracy, but after listening to you I will tee off with the 3 wood until I am warmed up. I was hooking my 5 Hybrid: now sorted. My only problematic club is my lob wedge ( hit it thin often), which I think might be too short in the shaft length. I bought it separately from my other irons. My neighbour is a club fitter, so I have asked him to check my clubs. Now if I could only get all my clubs to perform on the one day, I should be able to break 90 ( best score to date 91, though I hit 88 while practising).

The concept of a good miss is useful and encouraging for beginners. Some of the comments and hints you have passed on to your students in these videos would make a informative video for beginners; having realistic expectations that not every shot will work 100% even for skilled players is encouraging.

My lawn has never looked so good. It is a Dandelion free zone!

    Cheers,

    Kym

It’s been a revelation for me… Goldilocks is truly the secret to solid ball striking. From driver to putter – go through the process and you’ll understand that the picture of the shot you’ve envisioned can only be produced if you put the “machine” in the right position to create it.

HI Shawn, I just bought my first driver and learning how to swing it. My first question is I noticed I have to manipulate my hands at address if I want the driver head to lay flat on the ground or square to ball. If I put my hands at a comfortable position the toe or angle of the clubface is slightly up at address and it seems like it would be at impact also? I am confused if the bottom of the club should run parallel with the ground or flat at address and impact or not? I realize you hit the ball on the way up. How does the driver lie at address:) Thanks and any video I should watch please direct me.

Hi yojaja! It is not how the driver sits at address that matters; it is when you let it track like a ball on a string towards the direction you want to start the ball through the tip of the tee that matters! Remember hands always get there first and this opens the club face more through impact. See the other driver videos on premium and the latest “consistency series” videos (first one will donthe trick!)

Thank you for the quick reply and that makes sense, I will watch those videos as well. I like all your videos! I have watched many videos and have always been a little perplexed as to how you explain fades and draws??? I understand the concept of intermediate point and having a target. Do you visualize swinging to the intermediate point and following through to your target? Ball placement in the stance is important also? Could you recommend a video that you explain all this in a manner that isn’t your traditional explanation method?

Just finished a round with my best score ever after playing for a year now. Shot a 90 and I will definitely attest to the sheer brillance of Goldilocks. Prior to using Goldilocks I had trouble consistently hitting the ball pure as they say. After seeing how Shawn uses Goldilocks I decided to put it to the test. It has truely helped me from my driver to my wedges. Thanks Shawn!

I have a suggestion for you I don’t know f this is the correct place for requests or suggestion, but. I think a video on Head placement and how it effects back swing and follow through would be very helpful..

What is the “regular channel”? My only comment having gone through quite a few videos, and please understand that I really like your instruction, is the continued nagging feeling that I have missed many videos as you make references to things you have not explained yet…

What would be amazing, and maybe it exists and I have just “missed” it. Is one or two “overall summary” videos that are nothing but an overall review of what you are going to teach. Knowing what the puzzle looks like (the picture on the box) helps understand how the different pieces are supposed to fit together.

Please understand, absolutely no criticism is intended…but everything seems to be jumping around. Maybe I just need to go back to YouTube and watch all of those…but, I thought it would be clearer on the website so I would not have to do that. Went through Basics and then started hunting. Am about to check out Wisdom one and see what that is about.

      Anyway, just sharing…

    Hi Shawn, how are you?

I just signed up to the Wisdom in Golf, I had another subscription to other “online golf academy” but did not see the results. I also feel that you are more close and approachable for all of us than other platforms.

I had one simple question based on this video, I overlap on the grip and I usually saw one knuckle of my leading hand and not 2 or 3, this was solved by a couple of golf classes I took in Miami back in December. My question was, on my overlap I tend to separate a little bit the index finger from the other 3 fingers on my leading hand so I can make some sort of a space for my pinkie finger of my right hand. Is this an issue that can mess up my swing?

I am still working on everything, it’s been a year since I started playing and I have seen so much info on the internet and also very different angles of teaching from three different coaches.

    Thanks and greetings from Spain,

    Elio

    • From Shawn Clement on The Grip

      This is proper Elio; having a bit of space there is completely fine; the goal is to feel that the 2 hands form a very secure grip where it feels like the arms and the club form one solid unit from the shoulders down;
You are now very safe here as we have studied anatomy in detail-neurology-evolution which is what you need to teach properly. We will not ever show you anything that goes against all 3 of these areas so you can evolve as a golfer properly and perform much better than the average! Shawn

Just as an aside. Reading Elio’s comment reminded me of this grip video I saw by Greg Norman aeons back. Apparently he creates space in his right hand’s pinkie and index to actually put the interlocked index of the right on the club. Called it intermesh. Any thoughts on that Shawn?

    • From Shawn Clement on The Grip

Not bad, played with it for a while, not an efficient way to grip for most as it is painful; also, understand that Greg Norman is a backhanded player like Sergio, Jordan, Phil, or is lead hand dominant

    Hi Shawn
I have a slow back swing (this gives me too much time to think) would this effect the momentum of the gravity wrist hinge or not, the lighter my grip(about a 1 or 2) the more wrist hinge I get but the swing does not feel very constructed, and when I tighten the grip I can’t feel the hinge at all

      Hi shawn

I had someone tell me that my down swing starts with my shoulders and looks to steep and my follow through goes to far to the left, is this just down to the wrong focus or am I missing something, he was talking about laying the club off more

It is not about the grip pressure; it is about the quality of the whip through the dandelion stem or the delivery of the grass clippings towards the direction you want to start the ball! Use a firm grip and feel a nice whip through that divot of grass towards that direction. Your brain will figure out how firm depending on the lie and conditions of the shot!

Hi shawn, iv been playing any 18 months and found all the standard instructions, positions, swings paths mind boggling, iv found your videos a few month ago and now all is starting to click, one question I have is, I try to start my back swing by turning the chest a split second before the acu, this is sometimes hard to time especially on the course, I’m concerned if I don’t turn the chest first I will just be lifting my hands up, am I making this to complicated, instead should I just be thinking of moving the arms and being out of the way, apologies for the long question but this has been niggling me for a while

    Hi Shawn
I am a new eagle member.
What club do you recommend for pitching? The 60 for short pitches? The 52 or pitching wedge for longer pitches? What would you consider the maximum yardage to be a pitch? I would also like to know how to control the trajectory of a pitch. I live in West Texas we have major wind out here.
Thanks I love the videos and have been working on the premise with some immediate improvement. I will try to upload a video of my swing soon. Thanks again

Hey Peter! Set up against a door frame; place the ball against it and see how you need to set up to be able to compress the ball through that door frame without hitting the floor first!
