  • From Jason Marineau on ALIGNMENT RELOAD

Great video. The visuals really made sense. I am going to set up an alignment rod like this at my next range session. I was sorry to have been unable to take advantage of your NJ/PA session a few weeks ago. Have been working hard at this concept this season because beautiful shots that were going left of the target were driving me mad and you just explained why here. Also the wrist hinge to wrist hinge back swing to release that you talked about a while back along with this idea here has helped me with staying with the target and the path because I can now feel when I come over instead of turning around my center. When I come over there is almost no re-hinge and I now understand it. I shot a personal best 81 yesterday (oh for that one chip shot or 3 putt). Shawn your influence has taken this older golfer from a 25 hndcp just a few years ago when I first met you to on the verge of breaking 80. I AM going to make it happen this season!!!! Thanks for all you do for us golf nuts.

      Right on Jason!
I look forward to the benchmark! And don’t count the shots until you are in the club house! 😎

    Really interesting.
Just had a few swings thinking about the sole of the club instead of the leading edge.

It makes staying behind the ball at impact seem natural instead of getting ahead of the ball with the upper body (my common fault).

Brain seems to just say “stay back behind the ball”. Makes sense I suppose because with the club head coming down you’d have to really flip the hands, and very unnaturally so, to offer the sole to the ground if the upper body is ahead.

Hey Shawn, I’m loving your absolute pearls.😁 Q: While you were checking out the rhythm for your driver, what indicated that your first swing was too fast, not the bpm?

Something bothers me. In many of your videos and lessons you say that for a fade you have to align yourself a hair left (playing right handed). In this video you seems to align the same way (parallel) for both shapes. Have you changed you stance on this?

Thanks for the question Vincent. I was thinking the same thing.

      Hi Vincent!
No change; sometimes it is the camera angle and sometimes it can be me a tad off; every swing is slightly different from the next and because it is a combo of alignment and ball position, you can still pull it off as long as you are not too far off the beaten path…😀👍

    Shawn,
Been a while. I’ve been struggling with Right to Left putts and it’s really killing me in Tournaments. Developed a bit of the Yips with Right to Left putts in that I either Hit it too hard and miss it High or quit on the stroke and miss it Low. Been practicing and of course but decently during practice sessions but when the “tournament lights” are on it’s different story – and once I start missing R to L putts it’s corrosive. I then try and hit the ball to the side of the pin that won’t leave me a R to L putt. I’m going to try Charlie Wi’s “3 Ball Drill” to see if that will help me with “Seeing the ball go in the hole” as you describe in this video. Last year I was Looking at the Hole during R to L putts and that helped for a bit then had a couple of rounds where I Miss-Hit some putts and lost confidence with Looking at the Hole. Just purchased an Odyssey Arm Lock putter to see if that will help and still trying to get used to how it feels. IF you have any Good Drills please send them my way. Thanks from Colorado! — Jim

      Hey Jim!
If you do not see the ball roll the last 3-4 feet into the hole at the speed to want it to roll in on IN YOUR MIND JUST BEFORE YOU LET THE WEIGHT OF THE ARMS AND PUTTER ROLL IT INTO THAT PICTURE, then you are dead in the water and no drill will help. After you practice this on the putting green, and realize that after you read the putt, set up, see the ball roll in at the right speed, then it is now OUT OF YOUR CONTROL, YOU HAVE DONE YOUR HOMEWORK AND IT IS UP TO GRAVITY AND MOMENTUM BEING ALLOWED TO MOVE THE ARM-PUTTER UNIT IN THE DIRECTION IT ALREADY IS SET TO GO ON.

The dandelion swing thought has helped with the outcome for the proper ball flight direction. But it appears if I only use the momentum of the downward gravity of the club, the distance needed to travel to the target; there is not enough energy for the ball to fly to the task. My question is there any advice on how to ADD some extra energy to the ball “dandelion” so the distance needed is obtained? For example, say the dandelion stem is 1/4 inch thick and it is made out of steel? One more silly question: Should you maintain the same whipping speed for all your clubs?

    Thank You! Duffer Dave

  • From Asad Ali on The Grip

Hi Shawn, when gripping a club with the lead hand like an umbrella, should all the fingers be equally tight, or should the pinky finger have the most pressure, followed by the ring finger, middle finger and finally the index finger? I feel the latter may be the right approach since the index finger needs to come off in the interlock grip and you also said that the knuckles of the fingers need to push the grip towards the pad of the palm.

I’m totally a single digit handicap on the driving range then I will get to about the 4th or 5th hole and boom I’m a 10 handicap again.

The feet together drill is probably one of the best golf drills ever – it has helped me tremendously. The drill take care of the centering aspect as well as the catapult concept. I have never seen this drill on the regular golf learning channels, this is very strange in my mind…

Feet together is feeling so comfortable now I try to keep my stance as narrow as possible feet apart. It will force the hips to turn without thinking about it.

You bet Jimmy! The reason why feet together never worked with other methods is that they were RESISTING in the backswing and not ALLOWING THE BUTT TO SWIVEL and not allowing the legs to extend.

We have done our homework and you are blessed with Gravity genius; enjoy! 😀👍

While performing a complete golf swing should I be aware of the motion (weight) of the club as it travels through space to the finish position? When performing the throwing exercises should I maintain a consistent spine angle as if I were over the ball swinging towards a target?

    Thank You, Duffer Dave

      Hi Dave!
It is impossible to feel the weight of the club everywhere in the swing as when it gets to the top of the backswing, it is weightless! But you can bet the house on gravity as it will always bring everything back down! 😀👍
As for posture, that would be a no-don’t worry about it as the gluts and legs when engaged, are needed to throw the club when allowed and NOT THINKING ABOUT THEM.
The machine you own has a 40 million bit per second processor and is a flipping genius at tasks like throwing! 😀👍😉

Hi Shawn I work on out of the way as a thought in my takeaway/backswing but I don’t crash Or get out of the way as you teach by swiveling my hips unfortunately i simply lift up to give my arms room resulting in a flat inside swing what can I do task wise or thought wise to move the legs to give the arms room as opposed to lifting up out of posture to give the arms room thanks

Do you consider throwing the club a task? Or is it something you try and pair with a hammer or cutting the grass task? I have a hard time thinking of both at the same time.😂

    Go to comment
    • From Shawn Clement on Clubhead Speed

      Yes, super deluxe task!
You are throwing the club in the direction you want to start the ball AND YOU PREDICT THAT THE STEM OF THE DANDELION IS IN THE WAY IF YOU DO! That way, you get to have your cake and est it too! 🤛😀😎

      So see “predict solid contact” and “goldie locks series” as an add on to the throwing the club;

Thanks, I think I finally figured out how to have both focuses. I stand behind the balls, pick a Target and a flight. Take a practice swing feeling the hammer while really focusing on the target. Focus on the target the whole time setting up to the ball, feel the hammering task to the target, and then swing. It’s more of a focus to the target and then think about the task right before the swing. I was too focused on the ball and door frame.

Exactly!! The task needs to be associated with the target; a “means by which” the ball gets delivered into the flight plan! 😀👍

    Hello Shawn,

I note that on your finish at the end of swing your left leg is amost perfectly straight. Do you have a drill that helps me acieve this. When I finish, I my left leg is still slightly flexed so it may indicate to me that I annot rransferring my weight completly.

Thank you for all your help,

This is what I need to anchor my swing?

    Go to comment
    • From Shawn Clement on FEET TOGETHER BACK TO FEET APART

This could very well be it!! 😀👍
Feet together-cannot lift the right foot-gives the feel of the anchor
Feet apart and no release of the right foot-forces the left hip to return behind you and this is what will give you the Matt Wolff clearing to the target!
Then let the right foot come up at the very end only after you have released in the direction you want to start the ball.
