Been nuttin the ball with square stance and throwing at picture. Im tryin the diagonal stance now. It feels almost like stack n tilt? My body wants to stay over left foot? When I throw towards picture I ultimately come way over the top and my follow through looks like I left my lower body just stay where it was at address? Should I just stay with square stance?
I would stay with the square stance, yes! You should not be experiencing that with diagonal and you are getting something lost in translation; like my dad always said: don’t fix what isn’t broken! 😀😝👍
There was another video where you showed the proper trail hand release. You were swinging the club one handed to show the proper release with the trail side arm. Can’t find that video. It showed me how much power I have taken out of my swing from being told I needed to be lead side dominant. I want to see it again to get that right trail hand snap. Thank you
williamCrowe, I have had a similar issue; might I suggest you look at Shawn’s Moe Norman video? Throwing the club up to the target in the clouds has helped me overcome this problem and stay behind the ball.
Coming back to this video as I was looking for anti-sway concepts for my wife. This is excellent for fixing that common problem. Recently I started adding the “pre-turn” to my own driver setup and it really works great. Thanks again.

This is the one that has done it for me .Putting my head in the right position and my backswing on the correct path which also allowing me to drop the club in the slot without manipulation.My drives are 40-50 yards longer and go where generally where I want them to.When I blackout and default to the ball I usually shank them.I spent past 3 years in a bad place wondering why I was wasting my time.I now have the confidence that I can return to good golf with intent.
Thanks for your unique perspective on the game .
I’ve seen some of your videos where you have a slightly open stance to target when drawing the ball. This contradicts the diagonal set up in this video. Is it a matter of preference and what works to try and draw the ball?
This has been a gradual awakening as like you, I had been brainwashed by what the golf teaching industry has been dishing out. Through my constant studies, we got to alignment and ball position which are interrelated in a big way and in order to decipher this properly, we needed to have a constant alignment pattern. Now that we know that the intermediate point is the be all and end all when taken with human binocular vision, the delivery into the flight plan through this IT will determine ball position and the physical makeup of the person swinging will determine stance and ball position.
Bottom line: there are many ways to skin a cat and we just found another!
I got to play yesterday for the first time since watching this series. That diagonal stance is the TRUTH!!! I used it on all shots. It makes it so much easier to keep the back swing on the target line and for the hips to turn.
You bet! A bunker and flop shot are pure fades; and fades are easy to perform as you have seen my set up in this video for a fade; I seriously love the way the set up looks in here and could not have demonstrated any better!! Which shows how natural this set up can be!

Hi Shawn, in your “hinge” video IIRC you said that the square or open stance opens the door for the pull/hook. Could you please explain why this is so?
Because of the lack of support under the body’s center of gravity beyond the ball; however, hitting power fades is perfectly fine! This is mostly with the driver though;

I tried 9-holes with the diagonal stance today and was surprised how well it worked! 🙂 Just for fun I even putted with it! 🙂 In my case, I got a better brace to the left leg and my best shots were those who felt like the one legged drill. The best thing with this stance is that it frees the brain from thinking of aligning body parts and instead the only thought is to align the momentum. against a (intermediate)target .
Yes sir!!! Just played 18 holes in the pouring rain and same results; lots pf GIRs and a 2 over front and 2 under back which was filled with birdie tries! So much fun!
Came back to review my grip especially the trail hand and discovered after seeing the video several times I missed getting my lead thumb right in the lifeline of my trail hand. I hand it close but not locked in there. Probably why I have been a regripper over the ball. I will bet that has effected other other areas of my swing like a left pull.
Must not have been right as the feel is total solid now.
Just the basics first. 👍
