Shawn, I have only been a member for a week. I have been taking lessons for the last 8 months on-line through top speed golf. I have made a lot of progress, but found your sight and I was drawn to how you teach the chip and build it into the full swing. I also really admire your teaching style, I coach golf and watching your lessons are going to make me much better at helping my players develop their games. I really enjoy how you interact with your students as well. Big fan!!
I live in central Ohio, so I am beating balls into a net with face tape. Can’t wait to see some ball flight with my improved grip and closed club face!
The double overlap has made a world of difference to my set-up, and putting stroke. The putter rests so flat and it is much easier for me to hover the blade pre-impact. I’m short so even a 35 inch putter, I have always felt as if I need to choke down. With the double overlap, the putter fits better and I don’t feel like it is in my gut. I feel way more comfortable and consistent. BOOYAH!!
Awesome stuff! Welcome and make yourself at home! We actually just filmed another grip session with Savannah and used a “top speed tennis” backhand grip screen shot to show the identical nature of the stronger grip and why for many it makes all the difference. I look forward to seeing more of your posts! 👍😀
GREAT LESSON! I just need some clarification on the set-up. Should the chip shot start from an impact (or modified impact) position, with front side slightly open? It appears on video that you are slightly open but not much. When I was chipping, I made better contact with my front side open, which also helped me get my head behind the ball.
Yes, just slightly open in the stance, ball off the back foot with narrower stance too; hands hang naturally in front of the ball and it feels like the stem of that dandelion will get cut first if the swing’s momentum stays with the direction of the intermediate point.
I find that my drives are starting to gain some length. My irons lack distance and Ifeel this video provides the very thing I need to work on. Would it also be the same release for the woods but on the way?
Not a priority; the dynamic aspect of the shaft does affect the lie of the club and the grass length and ground do provide a buffer zone to allow the club to get through without too many issues. Priorities are balanced set up that will allow you to stay balanced through the shot as you deliver into the direction you want to start the ball with ease. Shawn
Should the perpetual motion pratice drill be performed in a proper setup position? Just as for real you were setting up to drive the ball to the target. Thanks
Yes, full posture and the feel that the arms and club swing under the chest and in front of the body with full clearance and balance; see “pumping up the swing” video as well as battering ram video to complement what I just wrote too; enjoy! 😀👍
Hi Shawn. I have been loving W.I.G. for a couple of seasons now. My ballstriking, especially with irons is the best of my life. I went from hitting 5 irons 170 to 195+! I can really relate to the cutting grass and dandelion stem task imagery.
Where I still seem to be lagging behind is with my driver. My swing speed is maxing out around 95 and I’m “only” hitting it around 230 to 240. I’m 52, almost 6′ and pretty strong and given the distance I’m hitting my irons (7 iron 165) I feel like I should be hitting my driver further.
I’ve been trying the “tip of the tee”, and ball on a string task imagery but haven’t gotten more speed. Am I being too careful or something? Thanks for any advice and for all the great work you do!

Hi Shawn — Long time follower of your youtube channel and new Eagle member. Love your stuff! I’d like to book a 1-on-1 either in Quebec or your march 3-5 Palm Springs visit. What is the best way to go about booking a lesson?
Right on, so happy you are enjoying your journey with us! 😀👍
Email me directly at [email protected] and we will get you in the Palm Springs sessions and if you come to Quebec this coming summer, you will be amazed!
IM heading to “pump up the swing” video. IM trying to figure out why my practice exercises don’t translate into the real “McCoy” when the money is on the line!
See “open up the machine” video for on course as well!
It is all in the state and focus just before you swing; what are you getting ready to do and what will it feel like when you perform that task effortlessly and majestically!?
Shawn
Wow, I am just now starting to watch these after being a member for a while. I remember seeing the tilt and head turn previously and I would always strike the ball well when I payed attention to it, but watching these and really focusing on the presetting the head turn has me hitting the ball more consistent than I ever have. It’s resonating all the way up through the driver which I have a nasty habit of coming forward on and completely destroying my driver swing. Really just lets me feel the rotation of the body through the swing.
Shawn
309!! Congrats. Love the slo mo, keep it coming.
Your leg action was never more clear than in this video. I can’t believe you’re getting such a big hip turn but I am working on it!
Thank you bro! There are little extras that are coming in every other day where it goes up to 320…a mix of “football drill and heavy sword slash with full kinetic chain engagement” really cool how much clearer the feels are getting and how the brain is getting better at finding these sensations. GOLF IS A BLAST!!!
Hi Shawn. Really enjoy the split screen slo mo with commentary. Recently heeling the driver but felt I was allowing the kinetic chain to flow to the target ‘ out there’. Tried to stand further away…closer..no joy ( not surprised). the fix was #1.. see the blurr for distance to ball….#2 ..use the ground a la stone skipping letting the elbow flow in the football throw motion. Result was almost dead center contact and effortless distance. Waiting for the new GC setup and foresight to fix connection issues to verify the results. WIG…I have to tell you…you make golf more natural and way more fun. Thanks. 👍👍
Hey Shawn, check out 830-843 and butt relationship to the bench. R frame Practice swing shows a more marked ‘squat’ on the bench vs the L frame hitting the ball where the lower body squats very little. What is the natural process difference? Just a tighter kinetic chain? Thanks.
Yes, it’s a tighter kinetic chain; you will see Francesco Molinari And Danny Lee do the same thing with his practice swings where they exaggerate the use of the legs in timing with the swing of the arms to feel that turbo charging of the G-forces; then, when you simply give the task to the machine, it finds the more seamless versions of it. (through self preservation, the brain constantly seeks the path of least resistance)
This is one of the coolest things about knowing what the machine was designed for and how to use it at it’s fullest potential for learning and executing (which of course go hand in soft perfect fitting glove) 😀👍
Super question and an important one! Time to do another little youtube video on that!!
Answer: go to a golf store and hold different size grips in your lead hand the way we show you in this video. Which size do you feel you can crush the most or hold the tightest? That is the one you want!
Then choose material you prefer the feel of.
Thanks Shawn. Have you already got a video on YouTube on this? I couldn’t find one. In the process of regripping at the moment so any more info would be helpful 😁
