Thank you Shawn.
I’ve been with you for almost a year. I love golf and came across you on YouTube. Your wisdom in golf has changed my whole approach to the game. I’ve seen huge leaps in my score, but the “feel” and instinct I have on the course now is my proudest achievement. Thank you for sharing this side of golf.
Great video! Just wondering if there is a video that discusses the various levels of membership. For example, what exactly is Eagle… and what does this give you? What is a review like? I have been thinking about it, but not sure what it is.
Just started back into long irons. Got a new set of clubs which includes a 4 iron. I missed it. In this video, you appear have more of a closed stance with both iron and fairway wood, rather than your usual…. to the target with the draw and slightly open with the fade. Am I seeing this incorrectly? Also, my draw appears to be more of a low stinger, with little apex. Not more how to correct this.
Shawn, I have been looking for a way to stop moving my upper body ahead of the ball on the down swing. Maybe some earlier instruction advocated a lifting of the trail heel as the weight shifted to the forward leg. Being bolted to the ground with trail foot until after impact should help in staying behind the ball. Any other videos to help with this problem?
Thanks.
Yes, see “blur of club” and then “blur of club unstoppable momentum”
If you stay with the blur of club in the direction you want to start the ball, head cannot move forward.
Use this task as your “target confirmation; stayed with my task all the way past the ball into my finish.
I agree the explanation of how the content is organized is a tremendous upgrade and will help us find the relevant video. Committing to a task is essential. I try to practice many of them but at the time I am playing I do not have a primary task. I think there should be a main task then have the ability to use the required task. For example, I relate to hammering, in practice I throw the club with extreme accuracy but you need to peel carrots if on the cart path.
Hey Shawn. Thanks for the reorganization. You mentioned in this video that be closing down the face Muse result was keeping the ball straight away in the fairway most of the time but he started hooking the ball.
I’ve also closed down the face and the result with hybrids and long irons has been dramatic. After watching your last video I tweaked it a bit more and I’m having a problem hooking my wedges….bad. My wedges have always been money for me. Is it as simple as opening the face a bit more and not getting the hands as much in front? I’m baffled.
Hi Shawn, I luv this video on the lead hand release, and was really looking forward to the following week when you stated you would be talking about the trailing hand release, I saw your grip video you did next but would luv a video on the trailing arm release like the one done above – how about it!
Hi Scott!
See “upward levitation”, “the unstoppable momentum” series and the latest “perpetual motion” video; you don’t want to be letting that arm-club unit droop behind you and be in a position where you need to manipulate the club TO THE BALL. You need to be in a position to allow the club to fall through the stem of the dandelion AND OUT IN THE DIRECTION YOU WANT THE BALL TO START ON.
Hi Shawn. Great initiative. I’m a new member and submitted my first swing review yesterday mentioning that I felt like I was drinking from a fire hydrant. I’m looking forward to get easy access to the different concepts you are regularly referring to (tasks, goldielock, perpetual swing, throwing the club, etc.). Looking at the various comments on the site, I’m confident that this is a great place to learn but, like most of us here, I’d like to be able to quickly find the elements which will help me improve the most. Thanks
Hi Shawn, how do you know when a task isn’t working for you? How do you know if it’s the task itself or something with setup, focus or something else? How long should you stick with a task before moving on to another task?
Great question! Would love to see you execute a couple of the ones that resonate with you; if you are not a part of eagle, you can use the “email question” feature on our www.wisdomingolf.com website and see “lessons” and “online options”
Send me a face on and a down the line view of a 7 iron shot and I will help you choose!
Also send a clip of one of your favourite tasks!
Working of the draw with various irons, I noticed that as the club go to the longer irons, the club face needs to be less closed. My 4 iron has just a slight closed position, in contrast to an 8 iron, which is a lot more closed to produce a similar draw. Does this make sense? Or am I doing something wrong?
This along with “Swing too Fast?? Rushing Downswing..”, took me over the hump. For the first time in years I can fell momentum, “levitation” at change of direction, release and acceleration towards the target with any club, every time, IN MY PRACTICE SWING. Above the ball I go right back to rushing and trying kill Mr. Callaway. I can’t seem to stay with my target or the feel with any consistency.
I know you address this in many videos but if you had to pick one, which would it be?
Alright! Time to dig a bit deeper!
You made a nice practice swing; you scootch into the set up with the ball, you predict that if you deliver your unstoppable momentum in the direction you want to start the ball, you will not only cut the stem and compress through the ball but the ball will leave on the right line and curve the way you want it to.
Then what? You forget everything at hit the ball?
Is there a link to the video « Swing too Fast?? Rushing Downswing»? I am unable to find it. I also seem to go full samurai when I am hitting a ball as opposed to a practice swing. 😄
Yes. It’s the transition from the backswing that completely breaks down. Even when I properly complete the backswing and can feel the natural pause, instead of allowing the weight and the body to “get out of the way” my hands drop down to hit the ball. usually the ground first.. Seems to happen as a reflex. I can’t keep any of the rhythm i establish with the practice swing or drills. Looking back at the swing, I realize I lost focus on the task at some point but can’t tell you when that happened.
Hey Paul – if ever I get a little uncertain about transition I think of 2 Shawn nuggets
1 Outa the way, Outa the way – as in you are moving one side of your body (Hips, shoulders, arms, hands, club) up to the top of your swing – like heaving an axe and then reverse (IE Lead side then trail)
2 the other “feel” is throwing the club to the target in the same way you could skip a stone or throw a ball. If you have never tossed a club in your practice swing (in nets) it is an amazing drill/fell for me.
My warmup starts with baseball, then 30% effort to build speed, then throw club at target before i even hit a ball! Good way to psych out your mates too!
Right on Marc! Did not get the reply in my emails from Paul on this one for some reason. Paul, check out “target confirmation series” videos and we have a great video we are uploading tomorrow on the 6th part of our off season training which is all about staying to the end of the kinetic chain.
In the video you close the face and take a neutral grip. Then at address as you square the club face the grip becomes a super strong grip. Are you meaning to demonstrate how to get a strong grip or are you saying that’s how you would get a strong grip rather than taking a strong grip on a square club face. I know that closing the club face does work doing if this way. Just a little confused.
Hi Sean, I’m wondering where to focus my eyes as I swing. I am struggling with inconsistency. Sometimes I make flush contact but more often than not I strike the ground early. I am working on keeping my head still and I think if I had the correct eye target in my swing it would help tremendously.
See “grass whip training shawn clement”
Eyes are on the grass between the leading edge and the ball; BUT THE TASK IS TO WHIP THROUGH THE STEM OF THE DANDELION in the direction you want to start the ball! The stem being in the center of the ball; so the only way to the stem with the sole of the club is for the ball to meet the face of club first!
See top 3 tasks as well and check out the “peeling of the wood” too! Great task!
