Wow…gold Shawn! Where this really hit home for me was the position of the grip end of the club when heading into the door frame. Also where the right elbow is at that same point. NOW I can see how the club approaches the target line and doesn’t get pulled across the line from the outside. Awesome video!
OK! So, doing perpetual motion drill with a 7 iron, I find my swing plane and it feels “right”. I notice that at the top of the back swing my hands and the club are more above my shoulder and just a bit towards my head. Is this normal? I must have had too shallow of swing plane before because this feels right.
You bet! If you let the arms fall, they should fall in front of you and through to the target and not behind you into the right side of the body with no place to go! See also “how to match backswing to ball direction” and “mile markers for solid contact” videos.👍😀
Thanks for the quick answer. I am an old fart and have bad back, knees ect….so I had to rework my swing so I could keep playing. I have to stand a bit more upright, kind of like Fred Couples because of my back. This new plane fits in perfect. Gonna have to get my irons bent a bit more upright. Thanks for great videos! I found your site on YouTube and got addicted. lol. Common sense teaching!
Because of the nature of the arc of the swing; see all the “arc-blur” videos and the “working the ball” videos towards the bottom of the list of videos by date. THEN FEEL THE PROPER BALL POSITION with the “goldie locks series” You can have the ball a hair forward of centre on a draw but you will realize quickly that it better be a high draw (otherwise you will be getting a pull draw) and if the ball is centre or a hair back of centre on a fade, you better be aiming a lot left (as a right hand player) because you will be getting what we call a “push fade”
Not necessarily; it is the flow of the swing (see “blur of club” video and the “arc-blur” videos) and use the “goldie locks series” to adjust club face to the desired ball flight curvature.
OK, thanks Shawn! I am going to the range and give the ball position to path a whirl. I will try what you say in many videos….does this “feel” like it will go where I want.
Hi Shawn, I have been watching your youtube videos with Mu. I noticed he sort of adjusts the driver from nailing a nail downwards to tilting to nailing it slightly upwards into the ball. When I do that I feel a lot more tension in my right leg and especially my right buttocks. Is this feeling correct? I have not tried it out at the range yet.
Love it! Hitting fades and draws to a flight plan has not only taken my ball striking to another level, it’s making the game so much fun!
It’s so cool ‘witnessing’ yourself hitting golf shots into a target, as opposed to trying to perfect a golf swing standing over a golf ball!
Great couple of videos with Nita. I usually watch these in a darkened room… with a furrowed brow, and a notepad and my clubs nearby. This was both informative, and fun!
Quick question though – is the sort of relaxed/slow swing tempo you demonstrated, suitable for every club in the bag?
Because I can emulate that for all my wedges, and less so for the nine, and then barely for the eight… not at all for every iron seven and longer.
As you know, the seven is the “training club”, and weirdly, I’ve become most uncomfortable with it!
Love the recurrent themes. I find I need to continue to hammer in the concept , like the nail in the doorframe, of projecting the image outward not down to the ball as target. The words you use Shawn make a big difference in outcome as per Mu’s initial stroke. The thoughts I have are critical to a decent throw=strike. Thanks.
What would be the best videos to watch for translating practice on the range to the course? I practice with purpous not just aimlessly hitting balls. Practice goes great then it’s not even close on the course.
See the “practice tee to first tee” video! And the “process series”, the “pre-motor cortex series” and the “target confirmation series” also the “practice tee to first tee podcast we did on Golf WRX!
Hello new member here, looking forward to your teaching / coaching videos. I am an engineer by trade and love the mechanics of body and the swing and appreciate how you break things down. So…. my question is…. With the grip, interlock, my lead hand middle finger, center knuckle gets sprained (lack of better terms) after coming thru the ball, I can say I can feel my grip break down at some point after contact and come back, but that is when the tweaking happens. I don’t know if I am releasing incorrectly or what (but this is why I signed up for your videos). But the issue is gone when I switch to 10 finger and grip tighter (stronger than holding a bird). But when I do this, I don’t feel like my wrist hinges….because the forearms are tense. Hope that make sense. Thank you, Ortho
Secure grip is always a winner and you are hinging! You are simply not COLLAPSING the wrists and grip; send me a clip face on and down the line of the swing with the 10 finger grip and a picture of the grip to [email protected] (this goes for all who have questions about the grip)
Shawn
Can you use the pitching method for longer shots when in between clubs? Your swing method has me hitting my irons further I airmailed 3 greens Saturday with my stock shot using old iron distances need to recalibrate
