Hello Shawn,
First off thanks for the content, good stuff. I am in need of help. I have watch and performed drills; the arc blur, sending the stem to the target, the step drill, the spinner drills, door frame. All great stuff and they work and I was getting better. Able to shape the ball, it was getting to fun and cool. Currently – my practice swing over the ball, or next to the ball is great, able to stick the finish is great, if feel it and know it. But lately…..when that ball gets in front of me, its like a switch, a mental one, and I can’t get past this. And when it is happens I stop and do more practice (arc blur, stick finish) and but it is not working. When I execute I am crouching the ball (loosing my tush line)….ending on my toes and I am early extended. No Y or hands leading the club head at impact. I know I am doing it but I can’t stop it. I think the big thing, if I am able to get my hips in front and stick the finish the rest will follow. But I can’t do it when its time to send it down to the target. But I can with my practice swings…..its amazingly frustrating. Can you help, What is your suggestion. Give up on Golf!!!??? lol
Have you thrown some clubs yet?
yes sir, but I will do it again…..again….again….lol
How do you get the mind to not switch….lol This game is so mental. I seriously notice a mental thing go on when its time to execute….. I feel like Bagger Vance….if you could place the ball down when I am doing mye practicing swing….lol
and thank you for the quick response!
If your club throws have been successful, and you perform a throw above the ball and see the blur when throwing in the direction you want to start the ball, then lower to the grass and realize, the ball CANNOT STOP YOU FROM THROWING, then just throw and see what happens! Do a top, then thin, then flush contact while throwing.
Copy that, I will do that. Also, as I was reading your response, I remembered, the drill, I don’t remember what its called. But, when you line up a few balls (face one) and walk (or step) while keeping the momentum in the swing.
I will let you know. Again thanks for getting back with me
From my favourite walking drill; in the โkinetic chain facilitation seriesโ #6! ๐๐๐ช
Hi Sean,
Thanks for all the amazing content. I’m a hyper-ball focused player with a steep angle of attack (and corresponding propensity to hit down at the ball). Is there any merit to imagining my task as cutting and sending the dandelion, or even a small row of dandelions in front of the ball to the target? This problem for me is severe that I’ve exploded about 4 driver heads over the last year from skying shots (the alternative is hooked skidder to left field).
Have a look at the latest โdriver for accuracyโ and the โspinning series driverโ; use the ground as a training aid to get the sole of club to shallow out as you skip it along the ground instead of focusing on ball to face.
Hi @ all. I have seen lots of videos over the last weeks and practice a lot with the short irons up to 7 iron and it works for me sending a divot to the target. Have done also a lot of club throwing practice and I am able to achieve a clubspeed of 90-95 m/h with the 7 iron and 170-170 yards. So all fine so far. With the swing caddy pro I am able to get the click with 330 yards or 135 m/h but I am struggeling with sending the tip of the tee to the target, falling back to hitting the ball. I have done a lot of sport in my younger age, also Tennis and Table Tennis, never thought about any body parts, just delivered the ball to the position on the table or field where I wanted to send the ballโฆ Need the right drill or reference point the make the next step being able to deliver through the ball.. any suggestion Shawn? Thanks a lot and keep safe!
Hi Nils! Start with these videos and let me know how you do:
-great driver nugget and the โdiagonal stance driverโ
then โtarget confirmation seriesโ and the โthrowing series driverโ and when hitting driver, you want fill range of motion and full throwing capabilities but you cannot STRAIN OR FORCE the swing. Has to be RIDICULOUSLY EASY to deliver. ๐๐
Thanks a lot Shawn! I will work on this :-). I wish you and your loved ones (and the wisdomingolf team) a nice and pleasant christmas time. Take care!
Thank you Nils, to you and yours as well!
Brilliant insight behind your Wisdom in Golf approach. Wonderful content. It has made the game much, much more fun, and my handicap is dropping. Often when I do miss a shot, I’ve lost my intermediate point. I don’t play the most lush courses, but often there are no weeds, blemishes, etc. within 2-3 feet in front of the ball. I try to maintain focus on a spot or indistinguishable blade of grass, but apparently my orientation shifts. It is an even larger issue for long putts when I use the intermediate point to line up but then lose it when looking at the flag/hole to confirm distance. Any tips for finding / keeping an intermediate point when no landmarks are present? Keep up the great work. Thanks.
Hey Gary! You bet! Use the practice swing next to the ball to make a couple scuffs back and through to establish a nice arc shape along the grass; then back off and look down the line to see the orientation of the arc and use that to deliver your next arc! See โblur of clubโ and all the โarc-blurโ videos!
Of course! Thanks.
Okay, so quick update here. I have been playing some of the best golf of my life as of late – with the exclusion of my driver. I still feel like a complete head case with the driver…as soon as it touches my hands, something seems to break in my brain. lol. One of my buddies suggested I see a sports psychologist ๐
I have resigned myself to playing a 4 iron or 4 wood off the tee, and just playing a tee set up, and have been shooting in the low to mid 70s.
On the driving range, this video and the favourite drill – driver, have been mainstays for me. I usually alternate between clipping the tee with no ball, then hitting a ball and really try to send the tee on my intended target line. I largely have no issue doing this on the range. It’s certainly not always perfect, but, I feel confident with it on the range. I am purposeful about lining up with a target on the range. I go through my normal preshot routine. I’m playing with normal tees off matts where the tee goes in and pops out easy, so I have to go get the tee again and start the routine over each time.
However, on a tee box…even if I am playing by myself, as a practice round, with no real consequence of a bad outcome, I am almost certain one of three things will happen: I top the ball, I block it about 50 yards right, or I duck hook the ball.
help!
Hey Sean! See this video on youtube; i know I have it somewhere on premium but forgot where; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAU2tIwasy4
let me know how you do!
Thanks Shawn! Will give it a try!
Hey Shawn – so, helped a bit on the range, ball came out a lot lower but often was center of the face and solid. That being said, I noticed I was still hitting some almost ‘drop kick’ top type shots, and as you mention in that video, if you’re swaying, you end up doing that. I recorded myself quickly and noticed I am swaying a bit with the driver.
I went back to the ‘feet together’ and ‘1 foot’ drills with my 7 iron and was topping some balls…spent the rest of that session on those drills and my left oblique is sore today! Guess I let that slip away from me. I’ll spend a couple more sessions on that and then get back to the driver. Any videos you can point me at to eliminate sway on the driver beyond those two drills?
Yes, see the โwalking drillโ and then the โkinetic chain facilitation seriesโ #5 or #6 which is the walking and sending divot peels into the trees. With the driver itโs tee tips being sent! Just an amazing drill.
