Shawn:
Had been getting too technical trying to draw the driver and was not driving it well. yesterday went with the straight fade with driver and drove the ball great. I also need to pass on a compliment you received during my rd. One of my playing partners who I only play with once or twice a year asked me if I had been taking lessons said he could really see an improvement in my game. I gave you all the credit.
Hi Shawn thanks for replying so quick the video i sent you i came 4th in the competition the next day played in another competition and won it I’ve never won in the winter only in the summer when i got ground roll as i didn’t hit the ball very far but am hitting my driver feather am playing the ball on the inside of the front foot with it will i need to move the ball back to hit a draw cheers Steve
Right on Steve! This is why we have a comment section! Keep using it to get help finding the right videos for the job or confirmations that you are doing the right thing! 👍😀
This is fantastic…it is almost like you are falling downhill into your lead side heel…not just your arm/club unit but almost everything that is loaded up at the top of your back swing. Then after the fall/squat, the ACU comes flinging through because of the kinetic chain you’ve unleashed. Is that how you get that speed and whip through the ball? I don’t think I even do that when throwing the club so if this is true, it is something I want to try.
Yes, the “weight shift with Savy” video explains it and when you are getting ready to throw in the direction to target, the brain holds the body against the target this way and this is the vision you should have; so many think they should be loading the right side and their perception of that takes them into a sway and loss of target leverage.
Hi @ all. I have seen lots of videos over the last weeks and practice a lot with the short irons up to 7 iron and it works for me sending a divot to the target. Have done also a lot of club throwing practice and I am able to achieve a clubspeed of 90-95 m/h with the 7 iron and 170-170 yards. So all fine so far. With the swing caddy pro I am able to get the click with 330 yards or 135 m/h but I am struggeling with sending the tip of the tee to the target, falling back to hitting the ball. I have done a lot of sport in my younger age, also Tennis and Table Tennis, never thought about any body parts, just delivered the ball to the position on the table or field where I wanted to send the ball… Need the right drill or reference point the make the next step being able to deliver through the ball.. any suggestion Shawn? Thanks a lot and keep safe!
Hi Nils! Start with these videos and let me know how you do:
-great driver nugget and the “diagonal stance driver”
then “target confirmation series” and the “throwing series driver” and when hitting driver, you want fill range of motion and full throwing capabilities but you cannot STRAIN OR FORCE the swing. Has to be RIDICULOUSLY EASY to deliver. 👍😀
When I tee the ball where you recommend, I tend to hit the ball too high. It is hitting the face (not a sky ball). I’ve tried a few different tasks but the only fix I’ve found is to tee the ball lower.
I’m trying the new tee height because I’m trying to optimize my carry. Off the lower tee height I only get about 9 or 10 degrees of launch.
It’s a process; let it sink in and give it some time! Try the strips of white electrical tape on the crown and see where the low point is and keep working on the tilt in the structure. Lots of little things need to come together for you to get that upward angle of attack. See “head tilt and hip swivel”and “tilt mile markers” videos.
I am slowly getting the head position. I am just having issues looking up to admire the shot I was supposed to be making. What suggestions or drills do you might have to help
Hey Gregg! See “target confirmation series”
when you stay on task to the end and you know what the end looks like and feels like, you stay with it till then and problem solved! 😀👍
Shaun. I notice from your videos that you seem to have a slight pause between top of backswing and starting the the squat into transition. Would I be correct? If so is there a video that addresses this?
Haha, you bet!! This is me never fighting with my instrument! See “using the weight in your swing-axe drill with Savy” and “starting the swing smoothly to slow things down” and “backswing levitation” and then see “kinetic chain facilitation series” and one of those videos will get you some serious AHA moments! 😀👍👌
Hi, Shawn, my game is improved a lot since I follow your instructions. But now My ball
goes left of the target with solid contact n no curve. What’s wrong with me? I hv checked the takeaway is correct.
Hey Chris! If you were to play a draw, and start the ball to the right of the intermediate point, would the ball curve back or would you feel the need to close the face during the swing to prevent the ball from going right? See “predict contact” and the “goldie locks series” and then see “draw fine tuning”, “alignment reload”, “blur of club” and the “arc-blur” videos.
I have tried the above case. Sometimes it does draw n sometimes don’t. It is acceptable. But fade, the ball goes more left n doesn’t turn right and sometimes goes left too. What’s happened?
I have watched the first video, which means I should adjust my backswing so that the club can cut the grass under the ball and the club head should go towards to the intermediate target without manipulation, right?
Yes! Or, if you throw the club through the arc-blur past the right edge of the Intermediate point, you Predict that your posture is low enough that the dandelion stem will be cut oh the way. You saw the “throw the club” and the “blur of club” videos?
Hi Shawn most of your videos are you with irons or the driver most of my clubs are woods in this video when you say about the clubhead pointing down at the top of the backing would that be the same with a 11 wood will it be the same feel. Will you be making more videos with the fairway woods and hybrids i hit some balls into a net with a 3 wood the difference i got from bad to good was 75 club speed 130 yard carry to 114 clubhead speed 268 carry God knows what i was doing different maybe you do cheers Steve
This Part 1 video on the grip clubface relationship is so important. After following WIG for many years, I am just now really working through the progression and getting my brain used to it. Before, I would close it a little bit but then adjust it closer to my current release at the ball (and not the target) and just move on. Now I am no longer afraid of hitting it right and off the planet if I don’t save it with a flip or other manipulation at the last moment, and can lag and compress effortlessly! Well done! Wish I had worked through this well before now, Shawn!
Hi Shawn,
Having been an fan of Annika Sorenstam, I am intrigued how she looks at the target during her swing. She moves her head before the club meets the ball. I have toyed with this in my own swing and notice that it helps me release the club and extend my right arm at impact by taking out the “hit”. Is this something you would recommend?
Hi Jeff! Yes, this is quite valid; what is important is to maintain the tilt axis during the action and not default to the ball in the backswing. David Duval, Carl Petersen and a few others like Jim Furyk do this or a version of it.
Looks good Shawn, this clears up any misconceptions. Love it, What about fareway woods? Thanks for all you do the love of the game and your dedication.
Hi Shawn is this the best video to comment on as I have sent comments on other videos but you don’t answer also do you put most of your new videos on YouTube can i send you a video i seem to be pulling the ball left a lot cheers Steve
As for the pulled shots, see the “blur of club” and all the “arc blur” videos and then see “draw fine tuning” and “alignment reload” and let me know how you do. With that information, I will know where to point you. Also tell me which club you use at 150 yards.
Hey Steve! I am sorry I missed some of your comments!! They should be coming straight to my in box and sometimes they get filtered out. If I don’t answer in 48 hours, email me directly at [email protected] as I don’t want to miss these!
Hi Shawn played today great chipping your way only cocked up twice. Can hit a fade good with driver but when i set up for a draw i pull it left or push it right looked at all the arc videos last night and was swinging over the ball out to the right of the IP for the draw. You asked what club do i hit 150 yards carry at the moment my 9 wood but am starting to hit the ball ferther your way cheers Steve
Hey Steve! The vast majority of tour players hit fades with Driver; very advantageous to do with today’s golf ball. Keep plugging, it will get even longer! 👍
