Hey Steve! See the “great driver nugget” video and then see the “diagonal stance series” and the “arc blur”, “unstoppable momentum” videos and finally, “draw fine tuning” and the first video in the consistency series to make sure that club face is closed enough to deliver into your flight plans!

  • From Edward Jacques on SENIOR SERIES PART 4- THROWING CLUB

Been working through the Senior Series and just spent about a half hour in the 40 degree Michigan weather throwing some clubs. Filmed it at 240 FPS too. Very enlightening.

Have been following Shawn since about 2012 I think, and purchased his original series way back then. It helped me to shoot in the mid 80s until about 2015 when I stepped away from golf. Now retired and getting back into golf with a goal to break 80 and going to use Wisdom in Golf to get there. Right now working on getting some club head speed, but if I am being honest with myself, my swing needs a complete revamp. I toyed with a Single Plane Swing for a bit this summer, but it felt to restrictive so I decided to go back to following Shawn’s advice as it resonates well with me…and I feel somewhat like a clean slate.

Anyway, what I picked up on today, was I never really got the concept of an intermediate point…until today that is. I thought I had the target as my goal, but I was trying to hit the ball – no question. Flipping at the ball for the most part. It did not take long to get the club going to the target using the techniques shown in the video. I don’t take a huge backswing, but it is about what Shawn does, but I never really engaged with my legs. Staying pretty level through the swing and not generating any power. I have a way to go no question, but already I see more lag and hands moving to the target when I threw some clubs. So I am feeling very positive. Also purchased the Swing Caddie. Even though I do have a GC3 and can measure club head speed, I need something like the swing caddie to help me get the right movements needed to get effortless power.

Going to be an interesting winter and I am looking forward to working with Shawn to hone my swing. On to the next video.

  • From Gregg Carr on BLUR OF ARC-IMMOVABLE LOW POINT-UNSTOPPABLE MOMENTUM

I have enjoyed watching this video. I have practiced with my practice mat and this does keep my head still. My question is does blade irons help with additional distance over perimeter weighted irons? It appears that the blades allow you get closer to the “dandelion stem” which seems there would be better ball contact

Hi Shawn … very nice ! I noticed your club was “toe down” at the top. I thought we want it to be facing the sky like Sav ? I’m still trying to sort out the many combos of grip and club face at address. I cannot decide with my best way and stay with it, seems I’m always experimenting LoL !

    • From Shawn Clement on SLOW MOTION- DRAW

Hey Allen! When you see my wide flying elbow on the right, it changes the “look” of the club face; but then when you see my kinetic chain kick in, you will notice that the elbow then leads and resets the club face more closed. This is why you want to experiment for what works for you and understand it is also fluid and will change over time as you continue to deliver your action into your flight plans. See the grip-clubface video on the “goldie locks series” and use the “fade fine tuning” or “draw fine tuning” for more polish. Enjoy the experiment! One of the most fun aspects of learning!!😀👍

Would starting the backswing from the “jackknive” position be OK?

If you are doing weight shifting(Pressurizing the feet lead to trail) and trying to time it, tempo ,etc. Why not just have 70% of your weight on your led foot. Close your shoulders and keep them close until impact.(CLASSIFY AS A TIGHT DRAW) Maintain setup, This would reduce variables in the swing and keep your low point constant(like the tennis ball) more constant. Once your weight shifts, as scene in video, you are changing your low point and the circle would be moving(off center) as well. So timing this swing would be harder, but doable,. I believe your Diangle setup is inline what I think I should be doing?

Thoughts would be helpful or ressources

The best in this case would be to go feet together of on one leg or do the “diagonal stance series”; keeping the weight on the lead leg with a normal stance would be a loss of balance and a poorly positioned centre of gravity. See “feet together back to feet apart” and the crux of this video would also apply nicely with the one leg drill back to feet apart. Enjoy!

Can you close the driver, woods, hybrid the same way?

    • From Shawn Clement on UNSTOPPABLE MOMENTUM SERIES: PART 3 - Open & Closed Face

Absolutely you can! But not because you do it a certain way with the irons; many of my students close the woods more and many close less and others the same; use goldie-locks based on your target bound release and enjoy the process of fine tuning those fades and draws (use fade fine tuning and draw fine tuning videos too!)

  • From Robin Franklin on PREMIUM SHORT GAME MAGIC

I really like the go-pro shots, what I see is that the ball has a diagonal path across the club face from the heal to the outer face, if i’m saying it right, I always felt that the club had to be square with the ball on contact, even when opening the face, and the ball still comes out in the direction I want, and the added bit with the ball sitting up on the grass was great, because I always went to low and the ball went nowhere. Thanks

Shawn excellent video. I just wanted know something. Where do you position the tape on the top of the driver. It appears to form a “V”. Is there any significance to where the point is positioned and can you do this with your fairway woods and hybrids

I just ran across this battering ram drill. This is really hitting home for me! Do you use this technique with a driver?

Hi Shawn just seen you hitting from in the rough under trees you hit a low fade can you shape your shots from any lie as from our muddy rough under trees i just seem to get it out to the fairway. To hit the shot you did would i need a fast swing speed and power or just more skills as i can only hit my driver the distance you hit your shot.

There is a saying in golf: “You gotta dance with who you brung”
speed is important for spin yes; start with throwing some clubs and go over all the “release” videos and get good at that first; then use the “goldie locks series” to put the ball in the way of your throw; then the “target confirmation series” to lock in on the throw and full snap release past the ball!

  • From Edward Jacques on Consistency Series

Hey Shawn, I think I have mentioned I am getting back into golf after a six year hiatus. I had adopted the method of closing my club face and it served me well for the years before I stopped playing. But now I am having a problem and for the life of me I am struggling to figure out the cause. Using my GC3 I see my swing is inside out around 8-12 degrees and every shot I hit is a draw. My swing used to be over the top (outside in) but now it is the opposite.

It is not so bad with my shorter irons like the GW, PW & 9, but anything longer I am not getting distance and making poor contact. To be fair I am not getting much distance with any of my irons. My club head speed is low for someone as strong as I am, but that is another issue.

I see when I film my swing I am not coming through with my hands and somewhat flipping at the ball so the IO swing is putting a lot of side spin on the ball making it curve. I won’t call it a draw since I am not trying to do it. If I do play a draw I can get it on target, but not with much power.

Are there some drills I can focus on to get my hands to come through ahead of the club. Or maybe I just need to get some pictures of my swing for you too look at. It is getting really frustrating. I am planning to go in for an iron fitting and get some more forgiving clubs like the Apex DCB, but I need a more consistent swing before I do that.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    • From Shawn Clement on Consistency Series

Get some club throwing going and then the “Goldie locks series” and the “football drill series” and when that is getting you deeper into the target get some “fade fine tuning” to balance the swing with “how to match backswing to ball direction”and “task update” and the “kinetic chain facilitation series”. See how that goes and get back to me!

Shawn , I’ve video taped my swing and on my backswing I’m swinging to flat and to the inside of lifting the club , the first third of the swing looks ok but I’m laying the club off badly at the top ( plus over swinging like before lol ) any advice or drills ?

  • From Gregg Carr on SQUARE UP THE CLUB FACE

I just had an ah ha moment. I have watched this video several times plus many others and just realized the sequence of where the ball collects on the face towards he hosel and eventually squares. This is why even with your club 20 degrees closed looks slightly open at setup. Duh!
