As you say, it’s time to get that grip down pat!
I notice your trail hand is significantly weaker than mine. Is this closer to where I need to be. I’m thinking a strong right grip promotes a bigger block or pull unless if you really have command of it.
I’m going through the acid tests all month until I’m confident with your setup, seem ok?
Hey Sam! Exactly; use “goldielocks” to your advantage and keep delivering through and out to the picture and observe flights influenced by each grip. Shawn
Ty, sent you a note for a grip audit. but I understand! No need to reply unless you see a glaring issue.
I really like your use of the volley ball to illustrate passing through to the target vs the impact bag. I created a very bad habit of stopping at the bottom due to the image of hitting the impact bag ( kind of jabbing at the golf ball) instead of sweeping through it. Very frustrating and produces poor results. This video is very helpful to. E. Thank you. Your videos are very helpful to the “feel” player. I very much dislike the instruction methods that make you think of a hundred parts enroute to the golf ball!!! Thank you.
Hi Jean! Good stuff, and thank you for the great feedback; the reason why you like this kind of instruction is because I have done a ton of research as to what are the best ways for a human to learn motor skills. One of the best on this is Gabriele Wulf from UNLV. Check out the “anti-manipulation” and “the genius of Gabriele Wulf” in the premium list of videos!

Hi Shawn
I am finding that if I concentrate on making sure my lead hand (left for me) is facing the target at impact I get a better feeling of impact. Should this happen naturally or is it executed? I understand that I am directing my thoughts at the target.
Kind regards
Mandy
Very good! If you look at the “hammer drill” video, you will feel the same thing and you will feel the same firmness in that wrist in a tennis backhand or baseball hit. This is simply a “glimpse” from the conscious mind’s observation when you get the nice vibes of impact.
So it definitely means keep doing what you are doing and just enjoy the fact that you are feeling the correct feel.
Came back to review my grip especially the trail hand and discovered after seeing the video several times I missed getting my lead thumb right in the lifeline of my trail hand. I hand it close but not locked in there. Probably why I have been a regripper over the ball. I will bet that has effected other other areas of my swing like a left pull.
Must not have been right as the feel is total solid now.
Just the basics first. 👍
Nice! Little details like that make a big difference!!
Hey Shawn, I currently use an interlock grip (with the left hand being my lead hand) but am considering a transition to the eight finger grip for a few reasons, primarily, I feel the release a little better in my right hand (much your examples of releasing a fishing line or shooting a hockey puck. When I release in my follow through with the interlock grip I find it harder to feel (and even question if it’s there). What are your thoughts/recommendations? What are other potential errors that could be occurring when applying an interlocking grip?
When used properly, the interlock is awesome; I went back to it after 40 years right handed; still overlap left handed for good…so you think! 😝
The body changes; I have played well with all grips really and the 8 finger is every bit as good as any other; you get to choose. Just stay with the guidelines I give you and any decision you make will be good. Sounds to me like you have made the right one with * finger though!
