Hi Shawn. I’m a big fan. As it’s winter now, I’m going back to the off season videos. Regarding the grip, do you recommend one grip over another? I’ve been using the interlock for years.

Hi Shawn, I’m working on a strong grip along with the videos and am wanting to make sure I get it right. I have my left hand to where about 3 knuckles show. I put my right hand along the left thumb on the lifeline. I use an overlapping grip, and I am finding that the second row of knuckles of the two right hand fingers on the grip line up with the second knuckle on the pointer finger of my left hand. Is that a good spot. Part of me is tempted to line up my knuckles like in baseball but that feels like a weaker grip.

Shawn, just signed up after watching your youtube videos. Not sure if this is the proper place to ask this but you advocate a closed club face. Is this done with a strong grip or rotation of the club? Thanks.

Hello Shawn
After watching the Grip Videos and testing the results with my ZEPP swing monitor, I am amazed at the immediate improvement in both hand plane and club plane. Changing from a ‘tight’ interlocking grip, to the overlocking (Vardon) grip immediately improved my swing control via my left hand. I suspect this has been brought about by a greater contribution to club control by the pointer of the left hand which is now on the shaft and reinforced by the pinky of the right hand. I also suspect that the joint pad of the right pointer where it joins the hand is now correctly aligned with the target. It appears these changes have increased stability in two directions – one down the shaft (left hand), and the other in line with the target (right hand pointer knuckle). Your remarkable instruction has also opened my eyes to the importance of the left hand in directional control in the swing. I now view the back of my left hand as emulating the club face, or very close to it depending on the club. This has been cathartic to a degree… you have explained what is happening and why. As an aspiring golfer who wants to excel at the skills of the game (not winning – just enjoying matching my skill with the course) you have provided both the foundation for developing these complex skills and the steps to achieve excellence. This really is ‘The Full Monty’ in golf instruction. Again Shawn – you ROCK!
