Hey Shawn, I think I have mentioned I am getting back into golf after a six year hiatus. I had adopted the method of closing my club face and it served me well for the years before I stopped playing. But now I am having a problem and for the life of me I am struggling to figure out the cause. Using my GC3 I see my swing is inside out around 8-12 degrees and every shot I hit is a draw. My swing used to be over the top (outside in) but now it is the opposite.

It is not so bad with my shorter irons like the GW, PW & 9, but anything longer I am not getting distance and making poor contact. To be fair I am not getting much distance with any of my irons. My club head speed is low for someone as strong as I am, but that is another issue.

I see when I film my swing I am not coming through with my hands and somewhat flipping at the ball so the IO swing is putting a lot of side spin on the ball making it curve. I won’t call it a draw since I am not trying to do it. If I do play a draw I can get it on target, but not with much power.

Are there some drills I can focus on to get my hands to come through ahead of the club. Or maybe I just need to get some pictures of my swing for you too look at. It is getting really frustrating. I am planning to go in for an iron fitting and get some more forgiving clubs like the Apex DCB, but I need a more consistent swing before I do that.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Cheers

This Part 1 video on the grip clubface relationship is so important. After following WIG for many years, I am just now really working through the progression and getting my brain used to it. Before, I would close it a little bit but then adjust it closer to my current release at the ball (and not the target) and just move on. Now I am no longer afraid of hitting it right and off the planet if I don’t save it with a flip or other manipulation at the last moment, and can lag and compress effortlessly! Well done! Wish I had worked through this well before now, Shawn!

Exactly. Anytime you hear from me your first question should be if I am using my scary strong grip or not?! 😂😬

Staying with the shot is sooooo key here. For me it literally is the crucial difference in a flushed shot with a perfect finish, to a so-so miss that ‘just didn’t feel right’.

Hi Shawn,

Do you close the face with your driver? From watching the video, it looks open. Illusion effect ?

Cheers,

JJ

The question should be which videos I haven’t watch🤓. Thanks will review the two proposed videos.

Hello Shawn,
I am wondering what I should be seeing with the club face at address, Inwas always taught to have the club face square . Sometimes your club face looks open to the intended path and sometimes it looks closed, it also seems square at times…not sure if it’s the camera angle or you setting up differently with the club face at address to perform a fade or a draw….
New to the sight and love the content and instructions….I only wish I found you a bout 3 years ago! Unstoppable momentum is the best thing I’ve seen on any site!

Shawn Clement

Hi James! So glad you are enjoying the content! The camera and the point of view from face on is very different from what you see when standing over the ball. What you want to do is gage that dynamically with the “Predict contact” video and “the goldie locks series” as well as the “fade fine tuning” and draw fine tuning” videos!
