Wisdom in Golf Premium

  • From Josh Vogt on Braced Tilt

Hey Shawn, with your teaching I’ve gained 15 to 20 yards on my irons. Thank you! However I can’t tell if its the shaft flex that is now to weak due to the swing speed increase that is causing me to pull my shots or not staying on task with throwing the club in the direction of the target. In your experience, is pulled shots a result of the task or possibly not stiff enough shafts? I can get the ball to go to the target but its a compensation I believe by having to aim further right and really start the ball right of the intended target. Thank you, Josh

Hey Josh! This is very common, and it has to do with the human vision from the side that feeds you the wrong information; see “alignment reload” on premium as well as the “blur of club” and the “arc blur unstoppable momentum series” and we actually just posted a video on youtube yesterday on this so check my youtube home page for “pulling shots straight left”😝😀

As an additional comment, I found the added swing speed a result of bumping to the the left to start the backswing which allows a deeper turn and longer backswing, not sure if that’s correct but found it helps me to throw the club back to throw it out to the target.

  • From Michael Orthman on IMPORTANT UPDATE OF TASK! SEND DANDELION STEM TO TARGET!

    Hello Shawn,

First off thanks for the content, good stuff. I am in need of help. I have watch and performed drills; the arc blur, sending the stem to the target, the step drill, the spinner drills, door frame. All great stuff and they work and I was getting better. Able to shape the ball, it was getting to fun and cool. Currently – my practice swing over the ball, or next to the ball is great, able to stick the finish is great, if feel it and know it. But lately…..when that ball gets in front of me, its like a switch, a mental one, and I can’t get past this. And when it is happens I stop and do more practice (arc blur, stick finish) and but it is not working. When I execute I am crouching the ball (loosing my tush line)….ending on my toes and I am early extended. No Y or hands leading the club head at impact. I know I am doing it but I can’t stop it. I think the big thing, if I am able to get my hips in front and stick the finish the rest will follow. But I can’t do it when its time to send it down to the target. But I can with my practice swings…..its amazingly frustrating. Can you help, What is your suggestion. Give up on Golf!!!??? lol

    Hey Shawn,

I have always suffered from not being able to shift while my arms are going up still without overdoing it. I have suffered from bad transition/weight shift in general.

Any other videos besides this one that can supplement more info on transition and shift?

It looks like you and Sav give yourselves a “running start” You seem to gently stamp down you right foot while Sav seems to do a forward press. Or is the “running start” more of a feeling, or both?

Both! You never want to feel like you are still at address; see this one: https://wisdomingolfpremium.com/starting-the-swing-smoothly-to-slow-things-down/

  • From Christopher Calabria on ARC WORK-KINETIC CHAIN COMBO

Are you letting your hands or arms drop to a certain point before engaging the legs and getting the weight over to lead side?

    Go to comment
    • From Shawn Clement on ARC WORK-KINETIC CHAIN COMBO

Hi Christopher! The good news is that you never need to worry about this when focused on the task towards the target using the weight of arms and club. To think about when to engage the legs would be sabotage on an epic scale! 😝😀👍

  • From Aaron Dixson on One Leg Drill

Love this drill, going to be a staple clip tee in the yard.

Today at the range, I have embraced my natural fade. Two years of releasing the hands earlier was a disaster. Right and left came into play.

I gained an easy 20 yards by pumping by legs a bit with a nice 5 yard fade on my mid irons.

I would like to work the ball more but I need a break from trying. 😂

You deserve a break for sure! Sounds like you found a nice refuge from it too! 😀👍

  • From Christopher Calabria on Arm Swing vs Body Turn

Should we be letting the arms drop at the top of the backswing and then shift weight over? Or hands drop?

    Go to comment
    • From Shawn Clement on Arm Swing vs Body Turn

When you let the arms fall through towards the target, the brain has to grab the ground with the lead leg and turn the body out of the way to let the arms pass through. See “kinetic chain series” and “kinetic chain facilitation series” and “unstoppable momentum series”

    Hi Shawn,
throwing the club, you release to the right of the alignment rod. Is that a setting for a draw? If you throw for a fade, where would the club go?

  • From Tony Bohanan on Release Fine Tuning

    Shawn,
I am left handed and it doesn’t matter if I am hitting Driver or my Irons I am hitting a high fade almost fills like I am trying to help with the release . The ball is flying off to my left, When I fill like I am doing it right I get a nice high draw, I want that feeling more what can I work on? I will be doing another lesson with you real soon. Just trying to get better will throwing the club me?

    • From Shawn Clement on Release Fine Tuning

Hi Tony! See “draw fine tuning” video as well as the “goldie locks series” video that pertains to grip and club face relationship. If you feel like you are REALLY EXAGGERATING to close the face and you are still struggling to draw, then you need to polish the release in which you want to see “lead hand release” videos, then “trail hand release” videos and then the “release fine tuning” and “snap release polish” videos.

the only other thing to prevent you from releasing is the centre of the swing is moving which you can quiet down immediately with “feet together drill” and you can combine all the above videos with feet together drill while hitting golf shots. Enjoy!

    Hey Shawn,

Really enjoyed the playing videos. Only thing better would be if I was there plying with you, my course management sometimes is the cause of my blowup hole.
I had double bypass surgery just 7 mos. ago and got allot of time to watch wisdom of golf instruction. I am now on the course every week putting those gems to good use and just wanted to say thank you! I am 60 yrs. Old and playing to a 10 hcp. and slowly lowering that back to an 8 which is where I was before surgery.

  • From James Keefe on LONG AND STRAIGHT DRIVER SERIES: #3 TURBO CHARGE

Hello Shawn….another great video series. I have lowered my handicap by 12 strokes these last 2 seasons thanks to you videos. I was wondering if you had some advice for when your swing starts getting quick on the downswing during a round. I usually start out with great tempo, direction and contact, but somewhere around the 12th or 13th hole my brain starts trying to speed up my down swing…..resulting in pulls to the left and slight hooks, felling like my body and shoulders are getting in front of the ball,…even when I tell myself “slow down” before I swing, I just can’t seem to get back in synch! Thanks and keep these videos coming as they are a huge help!

      Hey James! Awesome stuff!
one thing your brain cannot process clearly is “slow down” which offers too many options (infinite actually)
what you want to do is stay on task and perform the task as if it was your full time job and you need to last the day! 2 out of 10 effort to get 7 out of 10 velocity and compression towards the target. If your task is sending grass clipping towards the target, then do that EASILY. THAT will slow you down without thinking about it!

    • From Shawn Clement on Distance to Ball - Part 2

He reached PAST the ball and was on the heel of the club AND teed the ball way higher than everyone! It is all about where the club will pass dynamically through the collection area than what you do at address! 😎
