Hi Shawn,
I noticed on your over head iron slow motion swing, I saw your hands were way more closer to your body/thighs than mine ever are. That could be due to the fact you have a much greater turn back and through than me. In my video analysis you mentioned I need to sit more turn the pelvic area more and have been working on that along with the garage door drill. Keeping my hands more under me I will get closer to my legs am guessing, should I strive for that?

Shawn Clement

I am tall with short arms; so my swing can look different than yours. The key is what will help you deliver your task best? Always ask that question when it comes to body part questions.

Hi Shawn,
I really can use this video for my short game so thanks. However at the 55 second mark you talk about the tilt remaining so you can send the club through the stem and along the ground for the iron shot you were performing. That last part ‘along the ground’ past the ball is where I seem to struggle, especially with the driver. How do you stay behind the ball along the ground with your tilt toward remaining in tact? I get the sense you have to put pressure forward to keep the club along the ground but in throwing the club through the stem, I loose the along the ground and end up adding loft resulting in very little divot. To get divot in front I get my pressure forward and end up getting past the ball and can not seem to staying back keep my tilt back…so how can I accomplish both? I’ve tried the 2 tee drill and I seem to get moving forward too much. I’ve tried feeling like I’m hitting downhill and again I tend to lose my tilt and get past the ball. I sense it is an angle of attack thing but don’t have a machine to verify. Any suggestions? Tom

Shawn Clement

Hey Tom! This sounds like a release issue; see “lead hand release”, “trail hand release”. release fine tuning” and “snap release polish” and then to stay low through the shot is done with the LEGS!!! See “turbo charge lead hand release” and “turbo charge trail hand release” and then “pumping up the volume” and this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWFPzAxMOr0

Shawn – it would be nice if you were to make a video on goldilocks (fade/draw) with your GoPro to give us a view over the ball as we are usually accustomed to see front and back views of the swing. Cheers. JJ

Good suggestion JJ! Thank you!

Hi Shawn: am 66 appox 160 lbs. My drives and mid – long irons are 2000% better. But my 75-100 yard area has numerous shanks, that don’t pop up in practice. Its so frustrating to have all the improvements and not be able to finish a hole consistently.

Shawn Clement

Often times when this occurs; the backswing is too flat for the wedges with the takeaway not tracking in the direction you want to start the ball on. See “using the weight in your swing, axe drill with Savy” and practice this with your pitch shots and send the stem of the dandelion in the direction you want the ball to go into. See also “backswing levitation” and “matching backswing to ball direction”

Interesting perspective using the GoPro camera. It seems like your eyes are not parallel to the target line. Is that true? I was always taught to align everything, including your eyes, parallel with the target line. But using the hammer analogy, it feels like having your eyes and shoulders closed to the target line provides a more powerful and natural position.

Shawn Clement

Hi Christopher! Indeed! If you get ready to hammer a nail into a door frame like in the “hammer drill” video, you will see things in a very different light. The swing of the arms stays with the direction of the nail while the body pivots out of the way; like we have always done it with pick axes, axes and sledge hammers; the most effective way to drive pressure towards a target.
