  • From [email protected] on Maintaining Dynamic Posture

Hi Shawn, I was hoping these videos would be laid out in a chronological order (like taking a beginner from the very first lesson). Did I miss something? Looks like they are all randomly accessible but not what I was wanting. Thanks, and I think it’s critical that people have a step by step plan, or else it just adds to the frustration we get with most golf instruction.

Yes, what you want to do is go to the 1.0 series right out of the gate; that series will take you step by step!
Then you go chronologically after that! You will find yourself very easily then!
And I am always here for questions too; so please ask!

I much appreciate the feedback; thank you-will talk to Matt to make sure people know to go to 1.0 first!

      Simply look at the “categories” list and the 1.0 is right there at the bottom;

Thank you and I know your method will work. Nobody has to teach a person to toss their car keys to someone else, so the golf swing should be the same instinctive process, and not a bunch of thoughts! Cheers!

I think I learned as much as Kevin by watching these videos. The concept that a power fade may be preferable to drawing for some players with the driver is possibly something you could discuss in your Driver series ( or did I miss it?)

I am slightly older and one year into playing golf and less have less mass than Kevin ( I am 78kg), but I have exactly the same issues as Kevin with the driver. I can shape my fairway wood well, but if I try to draw with the driver it is less than predictable. The push fade can happen without notice!

My neighbour is a club fitter so I will talk to him about extending my short irons too.

    Thanks Shawn and Kevin.

    Cheers,

    Kym

Right on Kym! Many of my good playing students have a much more consistent fade on the tee because of our side vision-the position of the ball that is more forward than usual.

Just make sure you still have a nice strong grip so that they are compressed and power fades!!

Hi Shawn, I have this low grass/tight lie anxiety and I would rather hit from a fluffy lie or light rough, so naturally, my wedge game is garbage and inconsistent. I hit fat and skull shots with regularity. Is that because I am not using gravity and the arm/club connection. Also I have the terrible hit impulse. Any suggestions, or will this all be cured with your process?

I must admit that Goldilocks was never my favorite children’s tale. Abnoxious little girl taking advantage of the 3 bears…however…in golf she is the bomb. Finding the optimal posture, distance to ball, and takeaway path to fit the downswing and especially in putting to gauge the acu pendulum.

    Hi Shawn,

Does this wide descending angle also apply to iron shots?

    Thanks

Yes! 👍😀 this is a precursor to the iron play!

Interesting. So my takeaway for the irons is similar to my takeaway for a chip shot, only I hinge a bit to get to a ‘pitch’ position and complete the backswing for a ‘full swing’ position.

Thanks to all your students Shawn. I am seeing issues that I have and some ideas on how to overcome them. How I wish I had the same supple swing that your daughter displayed! Too old , too broken to ever emulate that swing though.

      Glad you are enjoying these Kym; the brain is an incredible problem solver; give it a task that resonates and continue to evolve with it;
Which task seems to be doing the trick with you?

    Shawn,

New guy here only been on board with you a few week. I had seen in one video something about head tilt and placement. As your head is always tilted back towards trailing shoulder. I used to think that was a left eye dominant player. Is that true or is it a structural thing I need to be doing. Maybe i just missed it some how. If so please let me know where to find it. Dam Hurry up spring!!!

    Thanks,

    John

Staying on task has been the most helpful concept for me Shawn. Having the visualized shot in mind and having to release the club over the intermediate point to the target is much easier than a plethora of information going through the brain as I swing.

Having said that, I have gained a wealth of clarity on many concepts I have learned from other You Tube instructors by watching your videos. I have finally worked out my grip, stance distance to the ball, how to slow down my back swing and why, fade/draw method, reliable chipping.

I have struggled with driving accuracy, but after listening to you I will tee off with the 3 wood until I am warmed up. I was hooking my 5 Hybrid: now sorted. My only problematic club is my lob wedge ( hit it thin often), which I think might be too short in the shaft length. I bought it separately from my other irons. My neighbour is a club fitter, so I have asked him to check my clubs. Now if I could only get all my clubs to perform on the one day, I should be able to break 90 ( best score to date 91, though I hit 88 while practising).

The concept of a good miss is useful and encouraging for beginners. Some of the comments and hints you have passed on to your students in these videos would make a informative video for beginners; having realistic expectations that not every shot will work 100% even for skilled players is encouraging.

My lawn has never looked so good. It is a Dandelion free zone!

    Cheers,

    Kym

  • From Mike Mercer on Goldilocks Series

It’s been a revelation for me… Goldilocks is truly the secret to solid ball striking. From driver to putter – go through the process and you’ll understand that the picture of the shot you’ve envisioned can only be produced if you put the “machine” in the right position to create it.

  • From [email protected] on Driver - Part 2

HI Shawn, I just bought my first driver and learning how to swing it. My first question is I noticed I have to manipulate my hands at address if I want the driver head to lay flat on the ground or square to ball. If I put my hands at a comfortable position the toe or angle of the clubface is slightly up at address and it seems like it would be at impact also? I am confused if the bottom of the club should run parallel with the ground or flat at address and impact or not? I realize you hit the ball on the way up. How does the driver lie at address:) Thanks and any video I should watch please direct me.

Hi yojaja! It is not how the driver sits at address that matters; it is when you let it track like a ball on a string towards the direction you want to start the ball through the tip of the tee that matters! Remember hands always get there first and this opens the club face more through impact. See the other driver videos on premium and the latest “consistency series” videos (first one will donthe trick!)

Thank you for the quick reply and that makes sense, I will watch those videos as well. I like all your videos! I have watched many videos and have always been a little perplexed as to how you explain fades and draws??? I understand the concept of intermediate point and having a target. Do you visualize swinging to the intermediate point and following through to your target? Ball placement in the stance is important also? Could you recommend a video that you explain all this in a manner that isn’t your traditional explanation method?

  • From Hervey LeFrere on Goldilocks Series

Just finished a round with my best score ever after playing for a year now. Shot a 90 and I will definitely attest to the sheer brillance of Goldilocks. Prior to using Goldilocks I had trouble consistently hitting the ball pure as they say. After seeing how Shawn uses Goldilocks I decided to put it to the test. It has truely helped me from my driver to my wedges. Thanks Shawn!

What is the “regular channel”? My only comment having gone through quite a few videos, and please understand that I really like your instruction, is the continued nagging feeling that I have missed many videos as you make references to things you have not explained yet…

What would be amazing, and maybe it exists and I have just “missed” it. Is one or two “overall summary” videos that are nothing but an overall review of what you are going to teach. Knowing what the puzzle looks like (the picture on the box) helps understand how the different pieces are supposed to fit together.

Please understand, absolutely no criticism is intended…but everything seems to be jumping around. Maybe I just need to go back to YouTube and watch all of those…but, I thought it would be clearer on the website so I would not have to do that. Went through Basics and then started hunting. Am about to check out Wisdom one and see what that is about.

      Anyway, just sharing…
