HI Shawn! I’ve been having some good success with dead arms. One thing that has come up is I’m starting to push shots. And usually I’m super happy with the swing. Thoughts?
You can always trace things back to the original focus before you took the swing; did you have clarity on task and use of momentum to deliver the task through and out into the picture?
Also, when on the tee box, would you pick a spot that is level, or pick a spot with an intermediate point – what would be your priority? ****Super commenter
Hi Shawn longtime follower on youtube, recent member of your premium channel. I had this issue last summer as well. It seems that I get to certain point when I play a lot of rounds. Slowly shanks start to sneak in. My Last round a few days I could get some solid hits but everything was going shooting off to right with the Irons and wedges. Woods and Driver were ok overall. Can you direct me to which videos to focus on. I rewatched videos on posture and grip to see if something was off. Thanks again.
Hi Ray! Yes, see the “football drill series” and the “spinning series” which have been instrumental for getting through the ball with the space needed to not shank! Then see “the goldilocks series” distance to ball video
Can you explain if there is a method to determine if you need a face balanced putter vs toe hanging or in-between? Does it really matter if you’re using perpetual motion to feel the putter swing? Thanks kindly.
Stick to face balanced or slight toe hang putters; they suit human anatomy the best and most are too flat too; get a single bend shaft that is easy to bend to the correct lie when you are letting the arm-putter unit hang from the shoulders in front of your feet.
Also get your putter counter balanced with a grip weight of between 75 and 100 grams; this will MAKE the putter big time! The rest is head look and feel to taste; something that you find easy to align
Had my best round yet going back to wisdom in golf basics – flight plan, IP, target focused task, observe result. Flight plan where things have broken down in past is the confidence to actually be able to execute a flight plan vs make it as straight as possible. This will take some time and effort to continue down this path.
On thing I did was set up relaxed and square to IP. Then adjust a bit for flight plan. Otherwise I seem to exaggerate the setups too much leading to that confidence issue that this will be a good result. But you do need to be willing to make some mistakes for the process to unfold. Since the mistakes happen anyway this shouldn’t be a problem 🙂 but easier said than done.
Right on Jeremy! Here is the link to the video that will keep you moving this way! There is no other way to truly improve! https://wisdomingolfpremium.com/garanteed-pathway-to-always-progress-forward/
Thanks Shawn, this as a good one. One perhaps overlooked aspect of Wisdom in Golf may be how much fun it is. So much more interesting to focus on flight plan, prediction and observation than positions….
Merci.
Hi Shawn and thanks for another awesome video but now I’m confused 😀 Probably because I have misunderstood. When hitting a draw respectively fade you still aim the feet to the target? Is it ball position, the swing direction and maybe also a more closed or open club face that changes?
Fade:
We align momentum left of target using the intermediate point and we play the ball a touch forward of centre and LET momentum release us in that direction; we don’t want to guide or make sure the swing cuts across the ball as this is momentum’s job.
Draw: irons:
Align the flow of momentum straight at the end target and play the ball a touch back of centre, get behind the ball and feel how the ball wants to squeeze out to the right of the intermediate point slightly; let momentum stay that way and enjoy a shot that starts right and draws back to target.
Draw option 2: woods:
See the diagonal stance series on premium, all started with DRIVER DRAW and the “Important driver nugget” video
Hi Shawn, thanks for the lesson! I wanted to understand how much I should squat? I feel I need to get quite low to feel my glutes and quads engage, but that makes the club really flat and my 7 iron is resting on the heel instead of the sole on setup. I also feel better engagement with the kinetic chain when I squat at address instead of squatting down in the backswing – wanted to hear your thoughts on this as my instructor is trying to get me more upright with my knees and lean more with the spine to be over the ball – I feel quite weak this way and the swing becomes arms only.
Ok, so let’s look at the purpose and functionality of address: You are down in the squat so you can heave the Arm-Club unit into the backswing as in the “using the weight in your swing, axe drill with Savy” see that video and hit some shots with it feet together and feet apart; you can check out “feet together back to feet apart” video too as it is very relevant to your situation!😀👍
Hi Shawn. I’ve been a part of your premium channel for a couple of months now and have made some strides. Not perfect, but improving nonetheless. I revisited this video because I am trying to get to a point of hitting a draw on command (chronic slicer). The problem I am running into is that my miss is a wild pull/pull hook. Part of me feels that I am either not getting enough turn in my backswing or my tempo is too quick to transition into the downswing. I am starting to wonder if my brain is getting in the way of letting me push my shots to the right when hitting a draw. I think this because there are some par 3s at my home course with OB or tree trouble to the right. Do you suppose my fear of hitting into trouble may be causing this? With it as bright as it’s been I have a hard time seeing the blur over the ball, so I check the divot with my practice swing and all is good, until I hit the ball.
Hey Brad! Make sure you see the “alignment reload” and the new “slicing and pulling series” It starts with hooking first even if it’s a pull hook and then when you get that and know the ball will come back you can trust whipping the club out to the right! Let me know how you do!
Sean ,
Getting close here ! Lifetime snap hook. Noticed that if I go all out and throw to left of my midpoint it starts to slight fade or stay straight . Should that be my thought ? Thanks so much for everything
Hey Neil! So you are saying that your tendency was to snap hook a lot? Which means you were adding strain and releasing at the ball; so now that you are focused on a direction you want to start the ball, you are straightening out which is normal; now, 1-do not guide the swing to the left, you want to feel the weight of the club release you that way so brush up on the “important release update” feel and if it still stays out, you can make the grip stronger or close the face more. Enjoy!
Shawn, I love the way you teach! I am learning tons of stuff, and I thank you for imparting your great wisdom in golf to people like me! My question is about shot shapes. It seems like your “go to” shot is the draw. Is there ever a time where I should just try to hit it straight, or should I always try to spin it for a fade or draw? I know that straight ball flight is extremely rare, but it seems to me that aiming directly over the intermediate point would yield results at least as good as an attempted draw or fade—especially at my skill level! And it would be a lot easier to do! What am I missing?
What I have found through my teaching and personal playing is that when you try to hit straight, you are fighting the swing’s natural arc; and it tends to go against the brain as well since we don’t live in a 2 dimensional world. However, if you try to release freely over the intermediate point and get a nice little pull fade or a nice little push draw or if the ball looks straight in flight and you hit lots of fairways and greens then heck, have at it and enjoy! When there is a specific flight plan, then there is a specific feel associated with that, it just makes things more clear and there are many variations of fades and draws out there. If straight feels more simple, and you feel good about it, then do it. 😀👍
Tried this out a little bit and had a few different results, but all leading to the ball hooking/drawing. Some were pull hooks and some started dead straight and started to draw. Had a couple events with the driver (as you stated in this video) that I had a super strong grip/closed face and the ball went dead straight. Question 1- At set up with a strong grip/closed face should I line up the closed face to my IP? Question 2- Should my IP be aimed 5-10 degrees to the right of my target?
