Shawn irons are great. Fairway woods and driver fifty percent great. When the big hook comes it feels like my fight hand is is doing a fast release at the ball but that my club arm unit is still going to the target. The ball goes straight out and then exits stage left. I believe because they are woods I am trying too hard sometimes. Is there something I can concentrate on in the task to slow the swing and delay the release?

I got something coming for draw driver on premium that will really help!
In the meantime, have you worked on a power fade with Driver?
If your stance is square, it is much better suited (as for the vast majority on tour) for the fade and this is the break and butter shot for all the top guys with driver and woods especially

Thanks Shawn. I have avoided the fade swing since your teachings fixed my swing. For thirty years I was an expert fader, I mean slicer. I never wanted to go back to that, so I have been hesitant to try or work on a fade. Even in a right to left wind I will setup for a draw if I have enough room. I will try to add it to the next practice session.

Shawn, I was happy to see this video. I had been working this winter on the thought “swing to a pose”. Swing to the release really makes sure you get to the target. I do fairly well hitting into the net during a series of swings with the same club, but have found early Spring that I still revert back to some iffy swings on course and having a different club in my hand for each shot. So I know it is mental and yet it is hard to break habits that are ingrained. Guess I have to get out again to keep working on it 🙂 Thanks for the great video.

i completely understand the swing arc as it pertains to the irons and where to play in my stance but when i play my driver forward in stance , i struggle with hitting pull draws . isn’t the swing arc going to the left when the ball is played forward? i struggle getting the ball started to the right

Hey Scott! Ooooh do I have the best video coming in 2 weeks for this!! It takes care exactly what this question is about and you will love it!
When setting up for the draw on the driver, AND YES, BECAUSE THE BALL IS MORE FORWARD, you need to support the arc of the swing BEYOND THE BALL so this requires a diagonal stance arrangement or a more “closed stance”
This completely completes the understanding of Ben Hogan’s set up in his 5 Modern Fundamentals book.
This is another first for Wisdom in Golf, and only in Premium…gotta keep some secrets! 😝😀👍

Audio crackles but the message is clear. Did the feet together prep swings at lesson with Donna today. Helped with balance and rehinge and tempo.
FYI distance to ball has been an issue with the driver. Heel hits ++
Solved by finding the dynamic blur = static setup needs to keep clubhead in a sort of reaching position. Dynamic swing produced contact on centre clubhead, 4/10 effort and nice straight fade 220 +. Love that Wisdom in Golf.

Hi Shawn when you say draw grip/ fade grip are you simply referring to the club face being more open for the fade and more shut for the draw with the same gripping of the club as taught. Just a bit confused on that point. Thanks for the content

When delivering to the target and getting confirmation that you are, how is the ball flying?
      Examples:
For fades, If consistently too much fade with a bit of glance, then the face is too open to start with.
For draw, if the feel of the speed is nicely past the ball with flush contact, and the ball starts a bit left and turns too much, then it is too closed.
Tweak the grip-clubface from your dynamic results; fine tune it this way.

Aha! The missing piece to the downswing puzzle. Looking forward to trying it out this weekend.

One of your best, helped me identify one of my main mistakes. Somehow it feels natural to drive the legs but it leads to inconsistency and probably a loss of distance. I have noticed that I hit my shorter irons much purer than the longest clubs, probably because it is harder to drive with the legs on the short irons. So I get 180 to even 190 with the 8 iron but only 200-210 with my 5 iron.

Very good! Nice realization! Feet together drill is great to tame the trail leg; then uphill shots and ball below the feet shots-MAKE SURE YOU SEE HOW I teach those; as this is the very worst thing that is taught in golf!

Great stuff Shawn! always looking for more ways to get the feel of the release deeper through the ball. My rehinge has got so delayed now that it happens behind my head and the finish looks the same as when Tiger was hitting that draw that he almost holed on #16 at Augusta this year! I get that finish when I do the Henrik Stenson drill to spray water deep with my Right Palm. Other times I have the Jack Nicklaus recoil onto back foot when I’m using the walking drill for a task, or it looks like Bubba’s high release when I use the Lead Arm sword slash feel! Evolution baby!

Shawn – a lot of great stuff in this video – focusing on keeping the feet bolted through impact – how do you take this video to the course when you may not be skiing and golfing simultaneously? 🙂
Is the takeaway here to try and keep pressure over the arches on both feet through impact to help keep your feet bolted?

The key is to continue to develop the release but with that bolted feel; if you have a fairway bunker to go hit shots out of, and you can dig your feet the way I have them here with the boards, it will be a half hour very well spent! Release to target always-this is the number 1 priority!! Release to target from a solid center feel is polish.

This is something I have been working on. I find it important to make it on my practice swing. People too often cut their practice swing short.
One odd thing is I sometimes finish with my hands over my head instead of over the left shoulder.

Over the head after the re-hinge is fine; I do the helicopter all the time to dissipate the excess!
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s video dropping as a nice sequence to this one! Shawn
