I try this drill on my backyard and it really is very good multi training aid 👍 You can check ball position, posture, momentum direction and also great visual for target line.

  • From Matthew Costello on Arm Swing vs Body Turn

Coach I think I just found the missing link for a quantum leap.

The golf swing is a down throw in both directions. If I start my backswing w the sensation that I’m throwing the club in a downward manner my body reacts and glides out of the way and my transition just simply feels like that throw isn’t quite done yet.

Once it’s done I begin my second throw in a downward direction, but by now the body has re centered and pivoted to “catch” this momentum forward.

If I want to throw it further, I do. I just throw it further into my backswing too to load the catapult properly.

Throw down, throw down. Out of the way, out of the way.

For draws I throw down just to the right of the IP.

For fades I thrown down and left of the IP.

Wow! Is this something you’ve experienced?

The fun part about what I do is to listen to the interpretations from different students that have success; had another cool one last night with an online 1-1 student. So important for all of us, including me, to be open to these; it is what makes this wheel move forward!
thank you for taking the time to explain in your words; this will definitely help more in our amazing community. So proud of everyone here! 🫶😀👍

I got the sensation swinging a rope back and through and trying to keep it straight but wrap around my body gently. Awesome stuff. Can’t wait to take it to the course today.

I notice that both you and Mu set up with weight on heels. Feelings on this sir? Thank you

    • From Shawn Clement on PUMP UP THE VOLUME!

The desired feel is to load the ARCHES of the feet with pressure coming from ENGAGED GLUTS AND QUADS into the ground; we are using this to load the ground and be ready to heave the club into action like in the “using the weight in your swing-axe drill with Savy” video; check it out! 😀👍

Hi Shawn great video. This works great for all of my clubs but my driver. With the driver on my downswing I feel like my body has moved forward, almost covering the ball. Should I setup further back with the driver.

Hey, Shawn! Brand new member here. I have been golfing for around 2 years, and I’ve been subscribed on YouTube for about a year now, your videos have really helped me become comfortable with swinging the club! This year is the first year I am hungry for improvement. I just got your grass whip in yesterday in fact! I would say two of my biggest troubles on the course right now is a pretty bad slice on my driver and a minor slice on my irons. One of the troubles I come across is whenever I try to fix something in my driver, I seem to break something in my irons and vice versa. Any thoughts on this? I really appreciate any insight, and all the videos you create, you are wide and far my favorite creator!

Hi Hunter! Welcome home! Thank you for the kind words and what you are going through is quite normal; a great series to watch is the “throwing series” where we throw clubs of all different lengths to show the progression from irons to woods; then see “trail hand release” and “important release update”

so when you throw the club and don’t let go, the weight of the club will snap the trail hand over the lead hand and this is what you need to master. Add “important grip update” and “slice and pull series” videos to make the slice disappear forever.

then deliver through the ball to the target with “target confirmation series”

Shawn, you’re the man! After 36 holes on the sim and about 100 balls at the range, I’ve been comfortably drawing the majority of my shots. Still lots of work to do, but the results are undeniable. I’ve made it through each video besides the target confirmation series so far. I did have another question though. In regard to cutting through the dandelion stem and setting the intermediate point, I really struggle to visualize this and focus on these tasks when I’m actually striking the ball. What do you think the best way to remedy this is? I fully believe these two concepts are mandatory for my golf game. Thanks, Shawn!

You can simply use the “throwing of the club into a nice snap release into the direction you want to start the ball with the PREDICTION that the stem is in the way. DON’T TRY TO MAKE SURE ABOUT CUTTING THE STEM; let your set up dictate that the stem is in the way of your throw into the direction of flight; the target confirmation series will help a ton as well as the “stick your finish despite the ball” series

    Shawn,
It’s not a bad idea to release to center of most greens versus versus trying to rlease to edges and move it back ? Thanks.

Hey Robert! Exactly! Many courses have small greens and this will be the case at the US Open this week! I played Pinehurst # 2 twice and the greens are so much fun! You just can’t expect to score the same way as the others; I shot 72 and played Ok at #8 the first day and putted ok, and played much better the next day, putter and swing on #2 and shot 77!

So you do no pulling ,just letting it fall with dead arms. It happens so fast it looks as though you help it. Just want to be perfectly clear that you do not manipulate it at all

Hey Todd! This is a self preserving reflex action at it’s base; hard to fully write it down in words for sure; but when you deliver your action with ease, and this kinetic chain engages, it literally explodes through and you will be dumbfounded at how far it goes with such little effort.

  • From Brad Hoffman on GARANTEED PATHWAY TO ALWAYS PROGRESS FORWARD

The message here is probably the most important in all manners of golf. The thinking about where your body is supposed to go and the positions you are “supposed” to be in; is very debilitating. I’m on my 5th season and have spent a lot of time doing that, with some success, but there comes the point where thoughts take over and your body is like a scratched CD, skipping all over the place. I am so grateful that the teachings here are those that I can understand and follow. I love that my swing thoughts exist in my preshot routine when I’m going through PMD, finding the blur, and Goldielocks. Once complete, it’s addressing the ball and letting the body take over.

Shawn you should do a video on a backwards version of the walking drill. Helps me get any little early extension out of my swing and really works nicely w send divots.

Task is walk backwards and send divot. Very powerful feeling w incredible contact!

  • From Lyle Goodman on FRICTIONLESS BACKSWING

    Hi Shawn,

In one of your chipping videos you mentioned the lower body moving the left pec which moves the ACU back. Works really well to get the body moving back and through to throw the ACU to the target. Is the full swing the same process just with more momentum to allow the arms to levitate up to complete the swing? This gives me more a “connected” and in sync backswing. Or as in this video just use the lower body to get the upper body out of the way so the ACU can swing freely? Just a bit of a different feel, maybe both OK dependent on the individual golfer?

    Go to comment
    • From Shawn Clement on FRICTIONLESS BACKSWING

Hey Lyle! Yes, lower body mini heaving the ACU into the direction that matches the IP; then the ACU simply falls through the stem of the dandelion over the IP

  • From Christopher Calabria on SLOW MOTION- TAKEAWAY DRILL

Is it ok to pick up and plant the trail heel to trigger the swing with all clubs? I adopted it after watching this video and I find it comfortable and feels consistent. Not sure if it will work for driver, woods, irons equally?

Also should the trail heel plant give the
feeling of the club starting back on the correct plane with momentum?

  • From Brad Hoffman on ALIGNMENT RELOAD

Thank you for recommending this video, Shawn. I think the alignment stick being in the ground as an obstacle to get around will really help me. I am struggling a little to get the release tracking to the right and end up with a pull hook/pull rather than a push draw. It was getting to the point where I was trying to manipulate the path and that was a dreadful range experience (lesson learned about manipulation 😬). I have been improving and have had some really nice shots with pleasant ball flight, just not as consistent as I’d like, which I feel is a problem with the direction of my release. I am hoping that using this drill while throwing clubs will help.
On a positive note; going from a chronic slicer to the occasional draw and my biggest miss is the pull/pull hook, and having a more planned and predictable fade in “quiver” has been nice. Now if I can make sure I don’t try “add” power to my swing. 😂

  • From Christopher Calabria on Shawn's Favourite Drill - Long Irons & Woods

Is the P6 “Hands forward” shaft position from your grip holding it up in that position/angle? In a real swing with momentum and speed I imagine you would not be able to hold it there like that and your wrists would just release that shaft angle.

My wrists never used to do that shaft angle like your demonstration they just flopped down with gravity when I would try a slow mo swing stopping at P6 like you did.

So do we literally do the battering ram wrist/shaft angle coming into impact exactly like you do in the video on a real swing and centrifugal force takes over when it needs to?

    • From Shawn Clement on Shawn's Favourite Drill - Long Irons & Woods

That is exactly the idea Christopher! The mistake golfers make is to “manually deploy” the wrists at the ball when gravity will do this naturally WHEN DELIVERING THROUGH THE BALL TOWARDS THE DIRECTION OF FLIGHT! You will feel when you give it a little pump with the legs how gravity wants to pull the jackknife out of the slot and all you do is let it release into a full release into the direction of flight; see “target confirmation series” and “important release update” for the completed picture! 😀👍

  • From Christopher Calabria on Kinetic Chain - Part 3

Is it a feeling of sitting down with your swivelled rear end on just the left side or more of a feeling of sitting into both legs glutes/quads/hamstrings ?

I like the automatic feeling I get with the legs/quads/glutes/hamstrings swinging a sledgehammer but the club is not heavy enough to replicate that same feeling unfortunately .

    Go to comment
    • From Shawn Clement on Kinetic Chain - Part 3

Yes, it’s both with the lead side using the most; the feet together drill has both together evenly, the one leg drill has the lead leg completely doing it and feet apart is about 60-40 in favour of the lead side. Not for the conscious brain to monitor, just an understanding; then feel how you are using the legs to THROW THE CLUB TOWARDS THE DIRECTION OF FLIGHT; see “turbo charge lead hand release” and “turbo charge trail hand release” and these are the videos that changed Mu’s professional life! 😀👍
