Hi Shawn
Alway enjoy your videos and your concise, on target explanations. In viewing the putting-stroke and distance video, it appears you do not advocate a forward press of the putter, as that changes the angles and stroke momentum line. What if a person has difficulty initiating the putting stroke? How would you advise to rectify this problem.
The deep key here os this:
We are using the weight of the arm-putter unit to roll the ball in the direction you want to start it;
I used to forward press like Crenshaw when I was a junior player and was able to switch so easily once I felt how to use this weight.
See the “best golfers are lumberjacks shawn clement” and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QVj6cejjBA and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rq7K3N7qCWs on youtube; very important to be in a state of weight use and not manipulation of the arms and putter; and a forward press with the hands definitely puts you in a manipulative state. Some can handle it and putt well regardless, but I have had some pretty solid success teaching the putting this way!
Really enjoying my new membership! I have been so un-focused in my 15 years of playing golf; the blur drills and focusing on the task have made huge positive impact so far. Question about letting hips turn on the backswing; I have played for years resisting; how important is letting hips turn and should this be a conscious effort? The few times I tried this today I felt loose and out of control but the ball was flying really well.
Out of control means you are giving control to gravity and letting the body move the way it was supposed to.
You are Pinocchio without the string!😀👍 Already a genius of gravity!!

One more question; I realize how tight and manipulating I have been for 15 years. Is it ok to feel like when the club gets to the top of the backswing that it is hinging fully almost like john Daly and then throw the club? I find that this almost forces me to relax a bit. Anyway. It feels out of control for now but as you say this is about letting gravity do more of the work.
Shawn, I struggle and am off balance with my driver at the end of my swing, , if I alter my stance, and move the back foot back slightly this should make my swing more stable?
Always alter your stance in relation to the support you will need when you swing or whip the club in the direction you want the ball to start; also see the kinetic chain series on premium; because if you are trying to be careful and hit the ball with the driver, you short circuit the kinetic chain and a loss of balance os imminent.
Shawn
I thought I was throwing the club well. It was going down range and on target. I was happy started hitting the 7 iron 150 yards on target. Then I started practicing with an Orange Whip (actually the cheaper yellow version). I thought why not try throwing the ball end of that at the target. What a difference in release through where the ball would be. I took that feeling to the range and added 15-20 yards to the 7 iron. So I think I may have it. You are sort of whipping the club out to the target not just lobbing it at the target.
1. I prefer the feeling of lead hand releasing like an overhanded topspin shot in ping pong. Is this an accurate feeling of releasing towards my target for a fade?
2. With regards to grip and face angle. Am I to take my grip with the clubface slightly closed for fade and more closed for draw AND then get behind the ball at address with the perception of the face looking at my target?
You have been teasing us for weeks with how much distance you gained thanks to Munache’s (I hope I spelled it right) program.
When is that famous workout video coming? 🙂
this is a great video. Spraying the sand makes it easy. Two follow up questions:
1) When you spray the sand. What sand are you referring too? The sand under the ball? Or maybe the sand one inch behind and past the ball?
2) My home course has bunkers that contain very little sand and very very very firm bottoms making it difficult to get any sand to spray. Its like hard pan. How should I go about playing this shot?
A divot of sand, 1/2 inch deep; ball is a grain of sand towards the back of the divot inch before the back end;
I did a video called “no sand bunker shot shawn clement” on youtube!
Sorry shawn “A divot of sand, 1/2 inch deep; ball is a grain of sand towards the back of the divot inch before the back end;” was bit difficult for me to understand, could you rephrase this?
As long as you play the ball just slightly forward of centre and focus on spraying sand onto the green where you want the ball to land, you will be in great shape; do not let the ball distract you from this task!
Hi Shawn
This is the video I hope will finally get me to whip through on the target the ball. I have been working on heaving the backswing and letting the club fall into the task I have choosen for that particular shot. All too often I miss that feeling of a snap on the target side of the ball. I am trying to feel the extension of the legs to generate the speed. I can’t wait to try the kettle bell drill to help with that feeling. What size and weight kettle bell should I get?
Thanks for a fantastic video
Fred
Hi Fred! I know a certain tree that will be receiving more attention in your yard!😀👍
10 pounds is a good weight; the one I have here; 8 pounds is good too. For the gals, it would be 4 to 6 although Savannah is fine with 10 because of her soccer legs…😝
Shot my personal low of 83 last weekend and just had my best range session probably ever today. I’ve watched a lot of your YouTube content and premium videos. Been a fan for a long time. The feeling of being bolted and centered had me hitting consistently more flush. Thank you for all the help!
Hi Shawn, yesterday at the range I was getting some phenomenal speed with the 3W – around 120 mph (measured by Swing Radar) but substantially less speed with the driver, even though I was striping both of them. Same goes for my wife. From your experience could that be because the driver head is so much larger therefore more wind resistance? Or some other reason?
thanks, good to know. I have on occasion hit monster shots with the 3 wood (e.g. 270 carry) and driver (280 carry) with my old swing, but I could not figure out how I did it so couldn’t duplicate it regularly. So I know I have some untapped driver power in me somewhere. Wish there was a TXG branch out here to get properly fitted
It is interesting that I was fit for the 3W; but I bought the 2 Cobra LTD’s I have on spec. The Rogue was fitted but is not longer. The shafts in my 3W and drivers are all Stiff flex; with the additional power I’m getting from your method, could it be that I need an X shaft to get the proper distance/club head speed? I thought the difference between S and X was mainly about dispersion, but I haven’t been at this for very long.
Hard to tell if the putter is under the shoulders or eyes over the ball or any of those things because we are so bad at body part location.
I feel that your first statement is best; “posture for putter head placement” is the question mark…
ACU hanging from shoulder sockets is the feel though; and the confirmation is when you do a PMD and see the track the putter head wants to stay on and the putter head should hang on that line.
I practiced just the ACU placement and PMD today and hit a lot of solid putts. I have a feeling summer golf is going to be a lot of fun this year. Thanks Shawn!
Hey Shawn, when working on this, my blackout happens coming down feeling like my club face is wide open or I guess my brain thinks I’ll shank. Am I to just trust and focus on releasing to the target?
