For 12 years now my lead arm will not yield,or fold out of the way ..
At impact my lead wrist goes in to extension and the upper arm, elbow, forearm all stay frozen and close to left side of my body all the way to the top of follow through.
I tried placing the lead hand on the trail and can release properly but as soon as I put lead hand back on grip normally im back to the chicken wing.My body wants to default back to chicken wing with a regular swing unfortunately.
Hi Christopher! See “important grip update” and then see “target confirmation series” which will light up the whole shooting match; then see “draw fine tuning” and learn how to hit MASSIVE HOOKS and bring back to draws and fades. Then when the draw is humming, balance it out with “fade fine tuning”
hitting hooks and then draws/fades will really get me to stop with the chicken wing? I trust in your wisdom I am just curious how it will stop the chicken wing issue.
Hi Shawn, Im new to golf, and this is my second year. I have been watching your videos on Youtube and here. I’m having issue with my downswing thought. I have been switching between throwing club(s) out vs using trail arm (right side) to cut down (especially I’m thinking about moving my right elbow first in the downswing. Sometime, throwing club(s) method works, and sometime concentrate on right elbow works , but both are not consistent as I want. Do you have any suggestion ; also, when I have good shots , both methods give me same distance. Thank you in advance!
Ok, good stuff! These are very consistent together and working both angles is great! This is why we have several tasks in here that bring out the same movement patterns. One of my favourite tasks for engaging the full kinetic chain and getting the same sensation as the throw is the “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series” (#6 is awesome)
You can approach it 2 ways:
Throw through the arc-blur into the direction you want to start the ball and predict the divot is in the way or use use momentum to whip the divot into the direction you want the ball to start on in a carefree manner.
what makes things accurate, is the “blur of club”, “the “alignment reload” and the “arc-blur unstoppable momentum series” as having a very specific direction to throw through is the glue that hold the head steady and anchors the release of the swing to the target.
Now, all this said; make sure you see the part in the “wisdom 2.0” series on how to keep evolving in the right direction! Stick to your dart throws to your targets💪💪
Hi Shawn, I’ve been practicing with freeing up the elbows and going through the ball vs striking down at it with my shoulders. The swing speed has picked up a lot – drives are going 260 yards vs 230 before however with the irons or anything off the fairway, the contact feels like I’m thinning / topping the ball. Also, the club face rotates a lot in my follow-through because I’m using my elbows and hands to come through the ball instead of driving down the ground with my shoulder – any advice? Also, I had developed a tennis elbow from my prior swing – any advice on what may have caused it? Thanks a lot!
Hey Neel! Stay with tasks; stay away from body parts! The explanations are for your understanding of the actions and then you simply come back to task and allow the anatomy to fold around that! See “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series” and you will light up when you get to #6!
One of my new favorite videos from you. Wow. The visuals here answer a lot of tiny questions that have been in the back of my mind, hindering me from focusing on task. Now that I can quickly swat these questions away, I feel like I can really unlock the powers that I’ve learned in all your other videos. Thank you, Shawn!
shawn , i ve had a problem with push slicing my driver all my life. but through ur teaching have got it down to ,a gentle fade, but now i m trying to do a set up for a draw but can t seem to get anything but a straight shot ive tried playing ball back in middle of stance plus closing the club face way up but to no avail.once in while a will get a duck hook but nothing in the way of a normal shot. Suggestions????
Sean, when we had our excellent lesson with you in May – up from Boston area – you mentioned you have an associate teaching your method near Hartford? By the way, improved my distance with your help and steady mid 6 HC – looking to improve my driver further.
Hey John!
South of Hartford is one of my pit stops when on the road; but my closest guy is in the DC area; in Frederick MD. CattailCreek CC and ask for Ricky Serrano. We can easily do a couple online sessions for the driver now that we have you delivering good actions through the ball!
Hey Shawn, I’ve been told by many that my putting stroke on the way back is too quick and my stroke through is too slow (and slower than my backswing). My intention currently is to heave the putter back and then let it fall. Once I give it a heave back to get it in motion, I add zero energy on the way down and through. My distance control, and my “feel for distance” is quite poor right now. Any suggestions?
Yes, LOOK AT THE HOLE and don’t think about what to do with the stroke; just use momentum to roll the ball into the hole at the speed you want the ball to roll in with.
Hey Shawn, it looked like your right foot was slightly back in relation to the alignment rod. Is that a “closed stance”. I do the same thing since following your videos. Or are you aligning yourself to the right edge of your intermediate point? Thanks!
I experimented today with an open stance and felt I could really get through engaging my lead side better. It felt like I could complete my backswing easier and get more from my kinetic chain and was easier on my lead knee which I injured years ago and bothers me from time to time. Since I feel much more athletic and capable with a more open stance, What process would you suggest I go through to align so to effectively hit both draw and fade and start the ball in the intended direction?
Thanks!
Our wonderful process of GOLDILOCKS! 👍😀
Keeping the intermediate point and blur of club front and centre, goldilocks the alignment of your feet to feel which one will allow you to get through that arc-blur the most effectively! Too closed and you will feel blocked out and too open will feel like you are over tilting and awkwardly manipulating the arm-club unit to keep it on the arc-blur!
Good stuff! This happens to me a few times a round. Just can’t get convinced about the intermediate point. When this happens, I think I’m lined up too far right (as a lefty) and start aligning too far left. Then pull my shot, lol.
Hi Ryan!
as long as the grip size does not make your hands strain to keep the compression up through the ball; too big and the hands fatigue and too small the hands can’t leverage; the right size will allow your lead hand to clamp down securely and ball speed will jump up!
Hey Shawn great video. I can’t see the ball flight on these out door videos. I know Bryson Dechambeau carries around some device on his out door videos that shows the ball flight. That would be invaluable to your instruction. Thx

The OVERWHELMING SHOT SHAPE ON TOUR FOR THE DRIVER IS FADE; if you hit draw, you need to tee it very high and play the high draw and this is not for everyone; you simply don’t have enough loft to do the draw reliably with the driver; just watch the 10th tee at Augusta, 95% of the pros use the 3 wood there; much easier to draw the 3 wood…
I’ve recently joined and you’re videos are awesome the only thing is, I would get so much more out of them if I could see the ball flight after impact. Is there any chance you’re videos will have a ball tracers?
Many of our videos have tracers in them; the older ones of course do not as the tech was just not available and reliable over 2 years ago; not we have a reliable one from AI and the future videos will have them! 😀👍
