Wow…you’ve done it again. At the 25 minute mark you said something about straying away from the front foot. As soon as you said it, I realized this is me and the hidden gem of this video. It completely explains why I don’t feel like I’m ever getting to the front foot with any pressure or balance in my finish.

The true value of your premium channel is that there are so many off the cuff nuggets of gold I’ve lost count. Makes me look forward to Wednesdays and keeps me coming back for more. Keep the wisdom coming.

    Hi Shawn,
French premium member,I apologize for my poor English..
I struggle a lot with this contact prediction idea..
I feel a lack of confidence in the natural unhinging of my wrists through impact..
The consequence is a kind casting to try hitting the ball with my right hand..(trail hand).
I have played golf with this problem..for years ..
Could you give me your opinion and some drills to try to correct that..
Congratulation for your wonderful way of teaching !

Hi Christian! Yes, I have some great videos for this! See “how stop hitting with your trail hand” as a start. Then see the first video in the “consistency series”. Ce video va te montrer à quel point ta prise et face du club ont besoins d’être fermés au début du swing pour te permettre de livrer à travers la balle et vers la cible! Ensuite vois “kinetic chain series” et “throwing the club” et “throwing series”

Golf is not a game of perfect. Love that you guys are modeling in live time the not so perfect shots and working your way through them. All too often golf instructional videos not only make it seem like certain moves are super easy and simple, they rarely include actual footage of shots gone awry. The fact that you are choosing to keep these in the videos is awesome because that’s real golf, a game of ups and downs and learning through the process of trying to improve. The conversations you are having to talk your way through not so good shots is important in helping people better understand what might have gone wrong and what to do to improve. THANKS!!

Shawn, my question is this. When you told Kevin to lower his hands with his wedges, would that also apply to his mid irons and hybrids? Fairway woods? Thanks

Sorry I missed this one! The longer the club, the more outward the hands will go; we call it pre-deploying to where the G-forces will be taking the arm club unit!

“Throw club to the target” is the key changer for me. Thank you so much Savvy!

Before I tried to throwing club at the moment of starting down swing, that was hard to lock at the down swing moment. Now I will prepare for throwing club when preparing for the swing, with prediction of club passing the ball. I feel much more confident now.

My next milestone would be always “let momentum does the work”. Now I can swing with low effort with irons but keep pushing hard on dirver downswing.

    Thank you.

Thank youse, I love this video for so many reasons. One thing that confused me though was, on the go pro view, at address your club face looked quite open. Is there something I’ve missed?

Again, the key is to feel that when you release in the direction you want to start the ball, does it feel like the ball will do in the air what you want it to. See “draw fine tuning” video and see FOR YOU what you need to do. I have a lot of experience with ANCHORED RELEASE which you will see in “bolted and centred” video.

Since I took up golf around 2 years ago I’ve been consistently blocking my irons 30* dead straight right. The day after watching this lesson, I played a practice round with a mate and did the feet together as a ‘pre-shot routine’ and low-and-behold every shot went left 30*, which was very exciting – at last the spell was broken. Hallelujah🎶 However pleasing it is to miss left for a change, again dead straight, for the past couple of weeks it’s been consistent. I’d be ecstatic with in between. That would be perfect. I’ve tried a number of things that haven’t worked. What would you suggest to help my direction? I’m thinking I should watch Mu throwing the clubs, again.

Thanks Shawn. So…is the kinetic chain engaged before/after/during club levitation?

    • From Shawn Clement on Kinetic Chain - Part 1

Hey Kirkland! Sorry I missed this one! That would be DURING the upward levitation of the arms club unit in the backswing; while the arms are floating up, the brain is getting ready to deliver the action throw towards the target!

Best ever grip video, has finally relaxed my mind on having a strong grip, thank you for that. But I wanted to mention hopefully with no contradiction with regards to the backswing,I tend to set my wrists earlier during the backswing,so my initial shoulder/body turn is fairly slight. So when my hands get to about hip height my wrist hinge has already taken place, and I have created an angle between arms and club shaft. Then I complete the rotation to the top.I find this allows me to remain more centred, and put into effect the so important Kinetic Chain sequence from the top of the backswing.I think this is slightly different to your initial move in the backswing. To illustrate the position I am describing more clearly.I stand in the normal setup posture, then holding the club,I hinge my wrists directly upward. Then I swivel my body position around, leaving my arms and club where they are. That is roughly my half backswing position I have described above.I obviously make allowances for my strong grip.Does this earlier wrist set contradict or compromise your teaching,or can I incorporate this into my swing and still take advantage of some of the other great nuggets you have to offer, such as the best grip video ever.
By the way the hinge and swivel example is taken from a book written by Beverley Lewis where she describes it as where ideally to should be about half way through the backswing. It’s not my creation or invention. Many Thanks

Please forget what I’ve just said.I get it.I have just watched your backswing levitation video with you and savvy.I just hope I can retain and recall that feeling.Timing is kind of automatic.A feeling that you will make perfect contact with the ball. It’s like a great feeling of confidence.

This throwing the head backward thought is the piece I really needed to anchor my rear foot and prevent my early extension…now I am getting the compression that was so elusive before…I agree with some of the others members below…this one was pure gold!

  • From [email protected] on Ball Position & Distance to Ball

    Hi Shawn,
I was associated to another website for the last 5 years, if not longer. (I’m right handed golfer) The instructor changed my strong grip to a weaker on, restricted my hip turn which had really affected my game and my back. He also said that my ball position was too far back and in the middle of my stance and it should be off my left ear or logo of my shirt. He also mentioned that I should be a fist width away from the ball. I never felt like I was compressing the ball like I used to years ago. After watching your videos, I moved the ball back to the middle for the straight fade and 1 ball back for the draw and now I feel like I’m compressing the ball and getting my distance back from my 20’s.

Is there another way or video I should look at to get the distance from the ball because with my wedges I’m reaching too much and with irons I feel okay?

    Thanks Shawn. You ‘da man.

Hard to believe they are still teaching those things because if they only knew how the human machine was designed, they would stop instantly. The videos to watch are “predict contact” and “the goldie locks series” which has one of the videos locking you into the proper distance to the ball based on you delivering through to the target. Did you come back to a stronger grip? See the first video of the “consistency series” as well.

Hi Shawn, I do use the “goldie locks” on chipping and putting and it’s been a godsend. My touch is getting a lot better around and on the greens.

Yes, to your question. I definitely came back to a stronger grip and I’m compressing the ball with ease.

So, I am having trouble with the physics of the driver setup and putting the low point of the swing behind the ball. Doesn’t the low point coincide with the point in the arc at which the club head finishes it’s in-to-out movement and begins it’s out-to-in movement? So how can you hit a draw from this setup? I am missing something.

There is definitely another dimension missing from your visualisation. See the very latest video we posted on the arc-blur with the driver and the arc-blur series. What you want to do is plan the flight, find the IP (intermediate point) that fits, then have the club clip the tip of tee on the way up and over the side of the IP you want the ball to start on.

  • From [email protected] on DRIVER BALL LOGO ARC-BLUR-FAIRWAY FINDER!

Another great video! Interesting you brought up using the logo on the ball on tee shots. I was trying to use blur-of-club and the out come of my shot was still not what I wanted so I thought about how I use lines on the ball for putting and thought I should use it at the tee shot too. I just started using the lines on the ball to aid in my fade or draw on the tee box. It is a work in progress, but feel excited to work on this (blur-of-club and lines on golf ball) to help execute the shot I want.

Pkay this is sooo helpful. I tried this on my last round and really felt that by using the line I had a better idea of where I was swinging to and also had a much better idea of my alignment. For whatever reason using the logo of the ball didn’t work as well for me, which kind of makes sense. We wouldn’t use the logo to line up a putt so why would we use it to line up a drive?
