Hi John!
As you could see, the ball position changed more forward with woods and driver; distance to ball too. Proportionate to what you are used to seeing with us.
Thanks Shawn… The Drone Footage was AWESOME…in particular captures what it looks like to stay centered which I have been working on this week so very timely video. BEST PART WAS… WATCHING THE BILL OF YOUR GOLF CAP in particular in slow motion and how long that Cap 🧢 stays behind the ball after the club face passes through the ball and stays there until the shoulder pulls it into the finish. Drone footage is extremely helpful and YES… YOU ARE… TEACHING WISDOM. THANKS
Thank you for the great comment and feedback Larry! So glad you are enjoying the footage as much as I am while editing it; really proud of the content and the ability to deliver it this way!👍😀
Shawn another outstanding video lesson! I discovered my weight shift was causing me to shift off the ball. I did the one leg drill on range and the feel helped me sort that out. Wow what a difference in contact. This with throwing the club might be the best two drills for us typical weekend warriors! Thanks!
Hi Shawn… I use the feet together drill often while warming up. I have also used the one-legged drill when I start to have trouble with swaying into the ball. Recently I heard Say suggest a narrower stance might be of help. I have gone to a 12″ to 14″ width stance on most of the irons. For some odd reason, I feel more stable and centered with this stance. Is there a long term problem with using a narrow stance or putting the feet closer together in a match where we might be struggling with location?
Hi Shawn, I play with G400 Max 10.5, recently switched from the stock shaft to Tensi Orange. The fitter said I hit very hard, so I should change the shaft. The regular stock shaft was very very soft. He replaced it with the Tensi Orange Stiff 60g. Ball flight actually gotten better from a lot of sliced shot. I guess I was able to hit it with more square face vs open. Now it is more like bigger fade. The issue is it would launches high, and dead stop after it lands on the ground. After watching your videos on driver. I start to aim more clipping the tee, target out front, at address I hover the club, leave it in the center of stance, close the club face. I began to see ball goes to the left, some with little draw. However, the ball flight still seems to be higher than ideal. I read something about this is a high launching head. I feel because the launch is so high, it lost distance. Should decrease the loft from 10.5 to 9.5? Currently, I am carrying like 200-210 (don’t have launch monitor, based on distance marker. Thanks Hung
terrific instruction and drills. Question before you start down are you squatting down to be able to push of the ground as you do on the 2 legged swing?
Wow! Tried this at the range today. Mid-iron shots on one leg were nailing the pin. I would three or four shots on one leg then go to both legs, but the dispersion was not nearly as good using both legs. I’ll keep up the drill. Any additional advice on going from the one leg drill to both legs?
Yes, you bet! See the “downhill shots” which is a one leg shot; and “uphill shots”, then see “feet together drill” and then “feet together back to feet apart” which will be the same transition as from one leg back to 2! 😀👍
Yes; from the wedge through to the fairway woods; Driver can be the same as the fairway woods but if you want more out of it, it will be nailing 5 degrees up instead of 1 degree down. Can you picture that? Also, realize that the ball position will be a bit more forward with the hybrids and fairway woods.
Yes, understand / heard you compliment Sav on achieving 5 degrees in this week’s video. Guess I am thinking too hard but so far the mechanics of getting behind the ball is beyond my skill set. Heading to the range tomorrow morning. Thank you.
Shawn – I am getting the feeling of getting behind the ball finally. Is the getting behind the ball tip the same as your pre-turn tip (set up for a draw video)? When I get behind the ball I feel like I am pre-turning as I rotate my hands into the strong grip position that squares up the club face. It also feels like the clubhead is moving back in my stance – also similar to the pre-turn tip for a draw. In the pre-turn tip you show the clubhead in front of the ball and then pre-turn which puts the clubhead behind the ball. I am trying to make sure of how this new tilt (getting behind the ball) should feel by trying to describe how it looks and feels to me. Thanks!
Thanks. I will review these before returning to the range. Our courses are very tight in the Myrtle Beach, SC area and I have to finally be able to hit straighter shots. Need to hit the beautiful straight draw you show us so often!!
Interesting to see – but can you share how much grip pressure you are applying? The notion of “use gravity” interprets (for me at least) as a loose grip to allow the forces of gravity to take place.
For chipping, I use a fairly loose grip – but for a pitch of 50-90 yards, I tend to hold it tighter. Should I also hold it loosely?
Depends on the shot Sandy! Chipping out of heavy rough is different than off a fluffy lie headed downhill. As for pitch, soft flop over a bunker or firm through rough or firm sand wedge landing in the middle of the green and one hop and stopping at a back pin?
for you to think about grip pressure is a mess in the making; HOWEVER, if you GOLDIE LOCKS YOUR GRIP PRESSURE to the situation, you will find clarity in your mind and eventually trust your instincts! See “goldie locks series” and apply the concept to grip pressure for those shots.
Hi Shawn, I’ve gone through many of your intro videos (the process, rhythm training, the process, etc. and you keep discussing cutting the grass or dandelion head. When on the golf course and actually hitting the golf ball, where should my focus be? What should i be trying to accomplish, related to where the ball actually sits? Sometimes it is back of your stance, sometime it is front, sometime center. Am I aiming for the ball, or the grass just before it, etc. Thank you.
Alright; the stem of the dandelion, or ball, is in the middle of it. The simple act of cutting THROUGH THE STEM and OUT INTO THE DIRECTION YOU WANT THE BALL TO GO which is marked by your intermediate point, is the task. NOT to the ball and Not The grass before the ball. THROUGH THE STEM AND ALONG THE GROUND towards the direction you want the ball to fly into. See the “blur of club” and the “arc-blur unstoppable momentum” videos.
Interesting comment by Savannah – about playing defensive (I have to score well, I have to make sure, etc) is SO TRUE. The second you do that – it almost guarantees a bad score!
The challenge is really to keep on swinging freely – stick to the task/control your strain level – and the ball will go where the ball will go.
“Any attacking swing, will still be better than any defensive swing” – gold nugget right here.
Hi Shawn, I spend a fair amount of time in my car and would love to download your podcast for listening on the road. I have not found a way to do this on your site. If this is possible, please sent instructions. I’m a fairly new subscriber and have recently upgraded my account. I am enjoying the content and I believe I am seeing a difference on the course. Thanks for your help.
Hi Shawn, I think I’m making some progress but am still very inconsistent. I believe my biggest issue is staying behind the ball. I start there, just fine, but as I transition to my downswing I drive my whole body towards the target. I’m sure the answer is somewhere in tases videos so could you point me towards the ones I should focus on?
Very common; it happens when you default to the ball. First do the feet together drill and then the one leg drill; then see “bolted and centred” “uphill shot” and “downhill shot”
Once you have the feel, see “blur of club” and the “arc-blur series” of videos. Let me know after that!
Correct; sometimes the camera angle can fool you; the irons are the same but the hybrids and woods have a different centre of mass and shallower face and need to be more forward. See “The goldie locks series”; and “predict contact” as ball position is part of the BIG 4 predictions to secure before you move onto your delivery to target!
hi shawn, not a comment on the one leg drill, but only on the way i see savannah swinging. It is about the quick change of direction at the top of the backswing, together with a turn of the wrist. It gives a crisp contact so i know and distance. In my change to your swing , to create structure at the top, which makes it even possible to stop at the top, might have made me to rigid in the wrist, although many times i strike the ball very well . Quick move or not ,comparing your swing and savannah s swing, is there happening something special with the wrist at the top ?
Good question! You will see guys like JB Homes and Bryson DeChambeau get a hinge in the downswing and use the change in direction to load them while others prefer a more rhythmic change of direction and a more gradual hinge going back and the final amount on the way down. They are both great! As long as you feel that you can deliver some solid momentum with ease into that explosive release in the direction you want to start the ball.
