Lol. Thanks. I guess thats what the Eagle Session means in the title. I’ll upgrade. Just turning 49 and been playing golf since I was 10. I’ve read 100’s of golf books on playing and history and love the game. Followed all the great golf instructors over the years and overloaded my brain with position golf. I used to play great golf in grade school and high school because I didn’t think about positions, I thought about throwing my golf club down the fairway at my target. That was my only thought and I was a 6 handicap going into college. Well to keep a moderately long golfing career story short, I pretty much messed up my game for the past 30 years and struggled to get back to even a 15 handicap. These last two weeks I’ve spent with you, Sav and Moo(Not sure how to spell his short name) have brought me back to high school and my old game. You’re a brilliant golf instructor, coach and communicator and I’m not exactly sure how you evaded my radar. Your explanations of the game and your integration of anatomy and physics are perfect. This game isn’t that hard, you’re right, we just need to do what we are already wired to do. Look forward to one day having the opportunity to get some in person time with you and “nut” some golf balls. Keep being you and thanks for everything so far. Best………….Greg. PS: Pass on my thanks to Sav and Moo as well!
Right on Greg! I know, the waters got pretty muddied on youtube with every instructor trying to get attention; very hard to weed through! 😝. Thank you so much for the terrific message and so many of our members share the same story and this is what keeps me doing what I do. I will forward the message to Sav and Mu (Munashe) 😀👍❤️
While watching one of your videos on YouTube as usual I am bombarded by advertisements that I usually delete immediately. This one was about a 1 plane swing like moe Norman, which Bryson DeChambeau seems to have adopted. I have been struggling with consistent contact from round to round so I watched a few of the videos on the single plane swing and proceeded to try it out at the range. My contact was great and it seems easier than adapting to different swing planes for different clubs. I will never stray from having a task, intermediate point, and flight plan and I truly believe that you are a golf genius. I proceeded to go to my local GOLFTEC and compare my conventional and 1 plane swings and my consistency and swing speeds were better using the single plane swing. I know that you have videos about Moe that I have watched, but, you have not advocated the single plane swing. Can I adopt a single plane swing while still employing your principles or am I straying into dangerous ground. If you do think that it is reasonable, especially since Bryson seems to be having success adopting it, it would be great having a video explaining your thoughts. Thank you for your response. Wisdom for Life!
Hey Joe! Terrific comment and you are finding what works best for you DYNAMICALLY and Munashe is on the same path. You will see the latest ball above and ball below video we just put out on premium and we will be taking a deeper dive on this aspect as many of our WIG players have those tendencies. I do not advocate “single plane” because this definition is not anatomically possible for 99% of humans. What I do advocate is a set up that allows you to DYNAMICALLY deliver THROUGH the ball and into the picture of the flight plan. For Mu, you will see a slow motion view with both angles and will definitely determine that he is closer to the “single plane look”. I do also agree with single length clubs and consider them very valid and wish all companies would offer a version of their product in single length to give more choice for golfers.
Hi Shawn,
I am a beginner. I can’t remedy this problem: I tend to look up and toward the target, before hitting the ball. Is there a way I can improve my shot.?
Yes, you bet! Did you see our beginner series? The key is to stay with your task until it’s done. The best task for you right now is the grass cutting task. See “grass whip training” video and perform the drills in there and become very good at them and you will improve at light speed!
Centre of Putter head in the centre of stance if the weight is centre. Then ball position in front of that and the putter head design will definitely influence this.
Thanks. So in other words, let the full mass of the arms-hands-club pendulum be on it’s lowest point where gravitation takes it to rest, and place the ball right in front of it?
“Don’t let it hit me.” This is big to me. When I have been throwing to target, my miss has been having me throw around my body instead of with my body. There is some latent fear of letting my body go, because i think ball will shank out to the right.
To be able to predict exactly what will happen and calm your nerves for the shank, you need some solid references. See “blur of club unstoppable momentum series” and “predict contact” and “the goldie locks series” to know you will deliver a solid strike if you stay on task.
Everyone this is so relevant! I revisit the reason for a strong, relaxed grip every few months just because I know it can change – get “loose” and the club face /swing send me like the ball way off target! If you have the time – the whole series on grip is fantastic!
Hi Shawn, how can I self diagnose? As good as Savy’s swing is, you had to tell her that she wasn’t completing the backswing. Same goes for how do I know if I’m steering and if I’m across the line or too laid off without video
Savy is still running into issues with side vision and is beginning to understand the ill effects of letting the mind trust what it sees from the side, this is especially true when you are trying to perform in a tournament. The ball creeps forward, the body alignment changes to where the shoulders get more open, and the backswing begins to shorten and you start getting a more “over the top look” to the swing.
1-seeing the blur is an essential reference (see arc-blur-unstoppable momentum series)
2-feeling that the backswing will allow you to deliver in the direction you want to start the ball (see matching backswing to target)
What irons is Savy have ? They almost look like the old pings. Does the lighter graphite shafts allow her to feel the weight of the club head better ?
On a scale of 1 to 10 what is the right hand grip pressure at address and into the takeaway ? Small hands like me betcha its at least an 8. Say good bye to those snap hooks with the driver. Yep my putting is off the planet good. Thank you very much. Have yinz ever tried putting off of one foot. If the hips are square to the line and the weight stays over that one foot you may be surprised. Works well on either foot as long as the hips are square to the line at address. When I go back to two feet distance control is very precise and repeatable. My ball striking is off the planet great also. Thank you very much. When standing on the tee looking down at my s5 I must learn to always play to the front . Why you might ask ? Welp this guy has me flushing every shot. I’m talking mash potato compression every time. Cold and rainy here so it’s a good day to have a few cold ones and work on my putting. I can’t say it enough.
Thank you Shawn , Sav and Mu
These podcasts are super helpful. Concepts like staying in the shot are easier to understand when you are not focused on all the distractions of a video, and how to put advice into action, but rather just relaxing and understanding the idea.
Shawn. After all this time ..when I cut the grass/dandilion stem let momentum carry the ACU with all clubs including the putter good things happen..BUT..when my eyes see the ball and fix on it as the target..not reliable..look out. I remember all your lessons and have to , in execution, train my brain that the target is out there…NOT down there. As always so enjoy the video lessons. J.
It’s so much easier to focus on a swing fundamental than individual elements. A press and heave into a rhythm-focused swing works really well for me from driver to chip shots. It takes my hands and arms away from the steering wheel, which is where everything can go horribly wrong. My ball striking has improved. Distance has improved. Accuracy has improved and I can shape a draw or a fade at will. Even my putting is improving. I came down from 12 to 7 handicap this year before finding Sean on-line, Next year will be very interesting – 3 or 4 handicap is not beyond a possibility.
You bet! You are talking the talk FROM walking the walk; you now see what is possible and both you and I are chomping at the bit for next season’s findings! This off season, we will buckle down on our second off season training series with the help of Sav and Mu!
Shawn
Shawn.Just an observation I note that yourself and your very able assistants seem to have the head/chin move about 25 degrees in the backswing. When I swing my head and chin stays square and centred. However when I stop take myself out of posture and look in the mirror my arms have elevated and my shoulders have turned 90 degrees.I note that in recent eagle podcast you mentioned there something dysfunctional about a head/chin that remains looking straight down.If I move my head to the extent you all do I feel as if I am over rotating.Do you see a problem with my swing?
Would have to see what you are doing because perception plays a role there; go ahead and send me a clip face on and down the line at [email protected] and I will look at it and reply. Shawn
Hi Shawn, are we supposed to combine the visualization of the arc with the feel of a task? I like to use the slashing the sword feel so would i be doing pmd with the slash feel and see the blur of the arc? And if I’m not seeing an arc in the direction I want does that mean I’m manipulating?
Beautiful! Great combo!
and at first, if you don’t see the blur match the direction, don’t fret, it is showing you what is happening so that you can adjust your alignment or ball position or match the direction of the momentum with the direction you want to see the blur go! 😀👍
