I have watched so may video’s both on youtube and here and I’m glad you finally mentioned hand/grip as a factor. So many of the video’s show just changing your point of aim from right side of the target line to get a draw to left side of the target line to get a fade, but without a change in your club face you are just changing the direction of whatever shot you are setup for. So said another way, if your grip/club relationship is set for a draw, and you don’t make a change other than to move your aiming point to the other side of the target line, your ball spin is going to send it in the wrong direction even if it starts out in the right direction. I thought I was missing something because you didn’t touch on that detail and kept asking myself what is going to make it from a draw to a fade or vice versa. I am a very literal thinker and when some things are supposed to be assumed I will often be left asking questions so I’m sure it is my fault but would like to get your confirmation on it. Thanks, RJ
Great video. The pumping action and timing. Its all about feel, like being on a swing. Playing my second round today in Michigan. 69 deg. and 20 mph winds. I’m excited.
I’ve been working on my grip, posture, and release for a while now and I have to tell you I can’t see how I will ever carry a 7-iron more than 150 yds. I’m lucky if my 7 even rolls 150 yds and I’m a fairly strong dude.
I still need to work on my grip a lot but I also feel like my grip is weak, even though I’m following all instructions properly. I’ve watched and watched and tried and tried, my swing feels weak and I can’t figure out why. Maybe it’s because of my release??
Hey Patrick! Sorry I missed this one!! Have you had a couple of club throwing sessions??
see “throw the club” and the “throwing series” and then see “predict contact” and the goldie locks series” to make sure you don’t default to the ball and a big video for this is “target confirmation series”
now, I don’t know where you are coming from but if you are restricting any body parts or you are being “careful” this will sap a lot of juice from the swing! See “pumping up the swing” as well as “open the machine on course” videos as this is what Bryson is doing BIG TIME!!!
Hello Shawn,
Just joined your site today and have watched you, Sav and Mou for the last 2 months on YouTube…love the content and how you instruct. I’m a 10 hcp and have been playing seriously for about 4 years. I am wondering, after watching Sav and Mou smash the ball effortlessly and how do I add speed to the swing (I finally feel the “weight” of the arms and club as a unit after watching your videos)..I can’t seem to get the distance I used to get when I accelerated from the top with lots of effort. I am swinging easier, with a nice draw, but am now about 1 club short.
Hey James! I am going to need a bit more detail! However, the videos that are musts are the “release” videos, the “throwing series” and “throw the club” and “club speed” videos, the “predict contact” and “the goldie locks series” videos and finally, the “feet together to feet apart” and “pumping up the volume” videos. Then let me know how you are doing!
Ok…one video in and I think this site has already paid for itself! Never had such an in-depth description of the grip like this one….I already see the errors in my way.
I think or hope I’m starting to get this. I may have had a aha moment today Shawn! I was hitting pushes and pulls with my 5 iron and Then I remembered to start turning my body to get a full back swing. Then heel came up bit off the ground and replanted swinging through beautiful and I released and hit a straight shot. Or should I say that the club released me. Of course I discovered this at the end of the bucket cant wait to go back tomorrow
Yes!!! Many of my students in this winter’s class just added 30 yards to their irons by doing this. For decades, golfers have been told to “keep the heel down” and “resist with the legs” and “keep the knees in the same flex” and this has been a real thorn in the side for the VAST MAJORITY of golfers. We are bilateral machines which means we are experts at walking either stationary or not. Stay with this! 👍😀💪
1-strain level on a scale of 1/10 should stay at 3 or 4 Max to produce levels of velocity and compression of 7 to 8 of ten.
2-to achieve this, see our “senior series” where the emphasis is on removing all restrictions on the swing!
Distance from the ball part 2 should be renamed to mystery of how a golf swing works – solved. The clear explanation of how the arms work through the downswing and follow through was golf-life changing. You have a gift.
Hi Shawn, Hope things are well. Shawn I picked up a Rapsodo Mobile Launch Monitor and honestly shawn it works fine for my level. I’m a very high handicapper so the nuances of a more expensive launch monitor don’t make sense to me right now. In looking at a clip from the Rapsodo I took a swing with a driver that look s like I never played golf before and t was on the follow through. Like someone had handcuffed me before and after impact. Is that what I’m experiencing at the 4:02-4:03 mark of this lesson with the tree analogy? Thanks much Shawn for the help.
Could be one of the issues; however, my first question would be what was the focus just before you swung? What was the task? Make sure you have a task and that you have practiced executing that task. See “top 3 tasks” and “task cybervision”
Sure! Here you go!

Hi Shawn I’m still fading the driver a bit. And do I need to have my weight on my left side and press the club forward I noticed this promotes an open club face. I’m a right handed player
George Knudsen said, that the only thing, that does not move in his golf swing, is the left big toe. That thought might be helpful to some for this drill.
Interesting; however not a point of focus. Example: A student gets good at throwing the club; they get good at predicting that the ball is in the way of the throw going towards the direction of the flight plan; they then notice that their weight shift has never felt so good and they begin to get distracted by that, “making sure” they keep shifting the weight in that manner so they don’t lose it like all the other times they lost their swing. Their focus on their task of throwing goes away and therefore the swing goes away.
TASK TRUMPS EVERYTHING. GET AWESOME WITH THE TASK DELIVERY. 😝😀
Yes, ‚toe’ along the lines of ‚suction cup‘ or ‚immediacy of the swivel‘ and ‚staying very close to the lead side‘ only. Once you swing, it is task only; I understand that as being the core of your teaching. In my opinion all of us have the natural ability to play golf correctly to begin with.
