    Hi Shawn, I’m loving the premium content and I’m working really hard to lower my handicap. One of the issues I thought i was having was my angle of attack, but with my 7-iron I typically hit down on the ball about 4.5 degrees. So I’m trying to figure out where I’m losing distance. I recently had my swing recorded and noticed my body goes upward during impact on the ball, rather than going through the shot to compress with momentum. What do you suggest? I’m currently carrying my 7-iron 150 and want to get that back up to 170. Thanks!

Search and watch all the videos with “release” in them, then see “throwing the club” and the “throwing series” and see the first video in the consistency series to really see just how closed the face can be in the set up and swing. Then see “predict contact” and “the goldie locks series: and finally “target confirmation series”

    Hi Shawn , when you take a practice swing above the ball to see the blur of the club how do you lower the stance to the right height. Do you bend over from the hips or do you bend the knees to lower the body? Thanks for any advice.

      Not silly at all! You will see in the original “working the ball” that I line up the feet parallel to the end target with draw and to the beginning of the flight plan with the fade. Those lines get “blurred”, pardon the pun, as this is the title of an important video called “Blur of club” and the “arc-blur unstoppable momentum series” which lines up the “blur” of the swing’s natural arc to the direction through the ball and intermediate point, and when you predict the ball position and club face and distance to ball to that, you have a stance line that can be closer to the “diagonal stance series”. It is truly fascinating the glass ceilings we are braking when we are simply staying open to what our machine wants to do and how it wants to set up to the flight plan we establish for it to follow. Pinocchio is really and truly free here! 😎. See what works for you!

    Had a wonderful day of golf yesterday due to your clear instruction Shawn. After 1 under on the front nine I started trying to manipulate and shot 6 over on the back with 2 penalty strokes. I now trust your chipping and pitching and since neither requires much in the way of effort they work very well. Once I start “adding” strain to the full swing – bad things happen. That is partly 50 years of unlearning happening in real time. Looking forward to improving now that I have your good information. Had to watch chipping and pitching videos at least 15 times each and practice chipping a lot before it sunk in for me to trust it. Been watching Posture Part 2 now for maybe the 5th time and pick up a nuance each time. Thanks and Happy Easter!

    Hi Shawn, I’m very excited about joining your premium program… love your teaching philosophy and techniques. I am a 72 year old 10 handicapper, have played golf all my life. Putting has always been the weakest part of my game but nothing like I am going through now. I really like your philosophy of zero manipulation and trusting gravity/momentum. I am great on the practice green. But on the golf course I hit great shots into greens and struggle to 2 putt. Everything just breaks down. It is so frustrating it has me thinking about quitting the game I love. I am obviously a total head case. Do you have any advice for me? I’ll do anything to become a good putter!

      Hello Sriram! This is very old and outdated teaching where if a player was hooking the ball the teacher would say hit shots with a very weak right hand because the right hand was too active. The problem with that is that the original cause for the hook was something completely different!! What was the focus just before they swung? Did they stay with the shot or did they blank out? What was the effort level? If you practice letting go or you have a weak hold on the club, then how is the club going to release your anatomy? Did you hear me when I talked about tennis or hammering nails or cutting down trees with an axe? I don’t blame you because of the brainwash golf instruction has brought and this is why I work so hard at bringing you back to WHAT YOU WERE DESIGNED TO DO AS A HUMAN MACHINE ON PLANET EARTH.     Hi Shawn! thank you for recommending this and the other list of videos to me after analyzing my swing! I am really grateful for your help. You and your student have such a great looking swing. I hope I will be able with time to find a swing that is as natural.

    One of the skills you and Savannah are able to do pretty effortlessly now is this clock like swipe the grass or mat motion to find and maintain your center from both sides. It appears pretty foundational and seems like an excellent exercise. It was not anything I had ever considered or attempted before and I was so impressed. I tried it and I think it will take me a while to master.

    Am I right in thinking this is a skill I should try to perfect first? Are your students able to pick it up very quickly generally? I feel pretty awkward attempting it but I am sure it will get better with a little time.

    Hello Shawn. Yesterday you answered a comment I made on your YouTube channel and suggested I start by watching the senior’s series. I did just that and I just got back from the driving range. Took me a few balls to get the hang of it but to my very great surprise and pleasure, I was hitting all my clubs further and with a smoother and easier swing than I ever managed before. Hard to tell for sure on the driving range, but it looked like I was getting an extra 15 to 20 yards carry on most shots. I will definitely watch the other videos you recommended and keep working at it. I have to get set up to film my swing so I can send it to you for analysis. Thank you for your great work.     Hello Shawn,
    you talk about your carry distances.
    Would you mind to comment on the follwing scenario, probably common to most of us:

    I am in play, 145 yrds out. My thoughts are: “with full abandon and flush contact my club might carry up to 155, with a bit less abandon and more control my carry may be just right. A club less might do it with full abandon, but will I hit it flush enough ?”.

    These thoughts related to carry distance reduces my will to swing freely, I start controlling the heave and my target related thinking diminishes. The resulting swing will reflect my thoughts – neither controlled, nor abandoned – with a random ball flight and a short carry.

    Is there a way to improve my ‘pre motor cortex’ in this scenario ?

      This is a management issue Eckhart! If you miss slightly, where do you want to miss? At our golf course, short is good on many holes and long is no good; if short is water, then you take an extra club. Always plan for flush contact (what you want) and if you do miss, you already planned to miss in that area so that you can stay free as a bird! 😀👍

    On a sunny yesterday with winds gusting 15-30 MPH I shot my 2nd 77 in a row – 1 each on the 2 courses at my club here in Memphis. Had not broken 80 since Dec 2020 so this is amazing. Your teaching is the reason and this video helped me to understand that there is more than 1 way to “default to the ball”. In my case, I didn’t come over the top but I did throw both my hands (handle first) directly at the ball with elbows very close together. Sometimes it worked and I’d have a decent round if my misses didn’t get in too much trouble. Now, I think of “battering ram” from the top with lead arm feeling like it is passing slightly over the ball and trail elbow in front of my body. Just have to trust that the kinetic chain will happen through the impact and I won’t miss the ball completely. This is where the magic happens and I’m nutting the ball a lot and my misses (thins, fats, left, right) aren’t getting me in much trouble. Your chipping and pitching take care of those (still hard to putt in 15-30 MPH wind though). Thank you and hope this helps someone else.

      Forgot to tell you. Bought a tru-temper grass whip to train with. Easter Sunday went to my amazing 84-yr-old father-in-laws to help him with chores that are too hard for him. He has about an acre of land that he plants each year with vegetables. I was supposed to weed eat everything (very hilly – lots of tall weeds) but took the whip instead. He had never seen one. I perpetual motioned everything for about an hour and wasn’t tired but learned why you want a firm grip on your instrument. Some nice blisters from letting the bird free too much.

    Hello Shawn! I recently discovered that throwing the club is the absolute best way to get me out of “manipulation” mode. My distance on all clubs has improved tremendously. The only issue I’m having is the direction of the throw as it relates to working the ball. If I simply throw to the target, things go well but I lose the ability to work a draw or fade. If I resort to throwing left or right of the IP, I lose focus on the target and become so consumed with the IP that I feel as though I’m manipulating again. Any recommendations here? Thanks!

      Good stuff and great question! Use the IP as a stepping stone to the “flight plan” and throw the club into the flight plan until you achieve the proper release; see “target confirmation series” and the “lead hand release” and “trail hand release” and “release fine tuning” and my favourite “snap release polish”
      when you throw, and don’t let go of the club, the club head weight releases the anatomy of the arms which is a big event as the club stops going towards the target and snaps back towards us. You throw into the direction you want the ball to start until you feel that change…see also “pre-motor cortex series”
