Speechless! Your clarity is as always brilliant – it just gets better and better!
Given Covid (we are still locked down in the Colonies) could I suggest that you stick with the WIG plan, TripIt, Feel the weight and allow the ball to get in the way of the club – BOOM!
If you are new – this plan works – we get to use our bodies and brain to play golf – no matter how old we are!

I have never seen a series like this one – the Favourites are fantastic – and – this is real time tuition – “warts and all” stuff – so real, so good! Mu – bad news, soon you will be limited to a 6 iron!!! 320 yards is a good benchmark for a 6!!

  • From Asad Ali on Putting - Stroke & Distance Control

Hi Shawn, my fellow players tell me that my putting stroke is not straight and I pull my putting stroke from outside to inside. I guess I just have to let my putter make the arc based on gravity, and stop trying to control the direction. Is that the right mental model?

  • From Jeremy Moody on UNSTOPPABLE MOMENTUM SERIES: PART 3 - Open & Closed Face

Shawn you did this to me a long time ago at RHGC. I thought WHAT THE! Well I found that the crazy closed setup was accepted by my brain and eyes when I was able to comprehend and use the feeling of the kinetic chain and the weight of the ACU creating the DYNAMIC result at the dandelion stem. Crazy closed static= partial closed dynamic= nice draw. Squarish static at address = dynamic fade still with some compression.
Watching Pros on tv they all seem square at setup. If I do, I screw up the dynamic strike and lose the intermediate point because my problems are right under my nose= pull hook to prevent slice or swipe across the ball dynamic open face=big slice.
    Great stuff.. Thanks.

Hi Shawn …really great stuff ! Regarding longer clubs (3 wood-Long Hybrids) would I still Shut the Face same as irons ?

    • From Shawn Clement on UNSTOPPABLE MOMENTUM SERIES: PART 3 - Open & Closed Face

Hi Allen! Depends on the gear you have; some more closed, some more open and some the same; the way you find out is dynamically after you deliver your action into the picture and observe the flight patterns. See “goldie locks series” and “draw fine tuning” videos!

  • From Robert Sanders on PUMPING UP THE SWING

Hi Shawn. I think this is a great video as it really helps one get the feel of how the chain works. My question is: if the speed of the hips unwind faster when we come out of the squat as the club is thrown, will this give us faster swing speed?

  • From James Keefe on BACKSWING LEVITATION

Shawn, this is by far the best explanation on how to swing a golf club. I used this video and the axe drill, plus swinging a sledge hammer (they definitely help emphasize the weight of the arm-club unit) and the results have been excellent.! I have added about a club and a half distance to my iron and wood shots. I’ve gone from only hitting fade/small slice to being able to work a draw and a fade on command. My 6 iron is now my 180y club where it used to be my 160y club before watching your videos. Keep up the great content!

Hey Shawn , as We swing the motion is still battering ram ?

    • From Shawn Clement on Walking Drill

Battering ram is same as “shawn’s Favourite drill” which is the same as “throwing the club” which is the same as “whip cutting through the dandelion stem” etc…the key is to stick to a task that resonates with you and become an expert at that task.

In the battering ram drill when Shawn uses the club to bust through a door frame and explains how gravity will get you to release was an Great AHA ! Moment for Me . Thank You for such a quick response

Hi Shawn, When the video shifted to Mu and he was hitting the 8 iron flop shot, you asked if it felt he was hitting the in the center or on the toe. He said center.
For flop shots in general, should we cut the stem and feel the ball off the toe?

Hi Shawn. I hope there’s a bit of gold in this video but I’m not quite clear on something….at about 17 minutes or so you were talking about a sawing motion with an ‘in to out’ path I think. Can you elaborate? It is confusing to me what you mean.

I understand it better for an out to in swing with the face open as the heel comes in first and saws across the ball. I wasn’t 100% clear what you were doing during this part of the video. Were you trying to show the toe approaching first with the in to out? Whatever it was it worked brilliantly I just want to make sure I get the right picture in my mind.

    • From Shawn Clement on UNSTOPPABLE MOMENTUM SERIES: PART 3 - Open & Closed Face

We are simply letting the swing move over the intermediate point; no “in to out” or “out to in” business; I had just mentioned that when Mu had the face too open, the TENDENCY WAS TO COMPENSATE AND SWING TO THE RIGHT TO PREVENT THE BALL FROM GOING TO THE LEFT. Otherwise just enjoy the goldie locks moments of too open and too closed!😀👍

Got it. I tend to have some difficulty with the driver/3W and the draw. Something is short circuiting and I feel like I can not get out that draw IP. I just can’t see the picture well. I end up playing a cut.

Not a problem usually but would love to add that capability to my bag. Was hoping this was the nugget.

What I have found recently is that trail hand release is huge for the driver. What is particularly weird is the draw fits my eye much better with the irons. Confused? I am…but really enjoy the videos. Helped me immeasurable.

This is why most PGA tour players prefer to hit fade with woods and draw with irons; because the woods require a ball position that is farther forward (fade flavour) and you are farther from the ball and the side vision infects the set up even more for a fade propensity.

Love this drill Shawn! I have always come over the top and this actually explains how to get after it from the inside and on the arc. I can actually get my right shoulder to come under. Also, it really has a good feel coupled with the “diagonal stance”. You have the best instructional information on the interwebs!

    Shawn:
This works, I had been struggling with consistency hitting my 2 hybrid closed the face more today and hit a draw 220 yds to reach a par 5 in 2 which is something I never do. Struggled with chipping last rd re-watched the chipping video got up and down 4 times today on my way to the best rd I have shot in several years 44/36 80.

    Hi Shawn,

    Good video.

I’m struggling with how closed the face is. If I close it as much as your suggesting I’ll pull it to the left. The divot is also angling left. Doe this mean that I need to change my swing path. In my mind this is a out to in path. I’ve also tried to aim to the right (but feels very unnatural as I’m aiming a long way left… appreciate your thoughts.

    Cheers
    Bruce

    • From Shawn Clement on UNSTOPPABLE MOMENTUM SERIES: PART 3 - Open & Closed Face

Hi Bruce! If you stay with your stock face angle at address and I told you to play the ball back of centre, get behind it and let the swing go to the right of the target, would you not think I was crazy because there is no way that ball would ever draw back towards the target? This is the predicament that most golfers are in right now. See the first video in the “consistency series” and then see “draw fine tuning” as a start.

The first order of the day is to see the ball CURVE LEFT, and not go straight left. Straight left is just a square face with a path that goes left which is confirmed by your divot angle. You swing left because your club face is WAY TOO OPEN. Once you close it enough to see the ball curve left consistently (yes, you will pull draw the ball for the first few and this is the idea) then your brain can PREDICT that when you close the face a certain amount, the ball will CURVE LEFT. GUESS WHAT? Now you can swing to the right of the target and stop coming over the top and you now know the ball will come back for you!! 👌👍😀

Back working on grip. I get the need for firm pressure with the lead hand. What about the trail hand pressure, I’m wondering if there should be less pressure on the trail hand so you don’t throw the club over the top.
Really like being about to find the fundamentals when I need them.

Hi Craig! You want that trail hand secure as well and that would have 0% influence on the Over the top action. See “throwing the club” and the “throwing series” as well as all the “release” videos that come up in the search box.
