First to comment! Looks like the right elbow is bending in response to the natural hinge of the wrists, like arm, elbow and wrists are 3 parts of 1 unit all working together. Which of course they are. Instruction has always hinted I should think of those 3 parts separately, which I now realize is ridiculous. Nice one.

Been catching you on you tube for years but always thought you were too zen Buddha wax on wax off for me. Took the plunge and joined, I now think your teaching is the way to go. I’d still like to see a bit more on how to improve your natural action (like some people are just naturally better at throwing a ball, how do the rest of us improve)

Ok! Great feedback! And yes, I am always on the lookout for that and the next 4 week series is going to be one of my better task discoveries that has so many of my students here at the club going “how do you come up with that, because it blows my mind how simple and effective it is!” In which I reply “awe shucks”…😝

What natural action were you thinking you wanted to improve?

I first picked up a club as a kid in the 80’s when Greg Norman was tearing up the fairways here in Australia (I chuckle to myself when you talk about golf seasons, 12 months of the year here!) and 30+ years of playing on and off has shaped the way I move. Now my natural no thinking grass whipping form looks very much like me not rotating very well, not great balance (just like the golf swing!). So me throwing into my picture results in ingrained body moves which is what I’m trying to get away from. I’m only new to your flock though, maybe I just need to master tasks/drills to transform my current natural movement patterns (Looking forward to the next videos, I especially like the dynamic between you, Sav and Mu)

Well, are they natural to hit at a golf ball or are they completely focused through the ball and into the target? Would need to see your swing to get your interpretation of what natural moves are to you!😝

  • From [email protected] on MATCH BACKSWING TO BALL DIRECTION

Hi Shawn, what things can I do to 100% confirm that my takeaway and top of backswing are truly going in the direction I want to send the ball without having the trained eye of a golf pro? Are there things that I can place on the mat/grass that are mile mark checkers to know I’m actually staying in the direction I want to send the ball? As you’ve seen with countless students, what we feel or even see does not always match what is reality.

    • From Shawn Clement on MATCH BACKSWING TO BALL DIRECTION

Yes, you bet! See the “blur of club” and all the “arc blur” videos first; then when you come back to this video and 1-confirm takeaway matches direction or ARC TOWARDS THE SIDE OF INTERMEDIATE POINT YOU WANT TO SEND THE BALL, and then go to the top of the backswing and stop and FEEL YOU CAN STILL WHIP THROUGH THE ARC-BLUR IN THE SAME DIRECTION. Confirm this by doing practice swings ABOVE THE BALL and see that the blur is traveling through the ball and into the side of the IP you want it to start on. Now you have a blue print. And you are THROWING THE CLUB EASILY AND POWERFULLY THAT WAY.

  • From Barbro Nilsson on Target Focus Confirmation Series

Hello, I am new here. I have difficulties to find the various videos you refer to. They are not stated under Categories. No mention of target, difficult lies, aiming etc. Difficult to find what I am looking for. Still very good videos overall – when I find them. This site I found after reading a comment where you referred to this video and then I wrote it in the search box. Perhaps there is a better way to search for various information than turning to categories.

Hello and yes, I feel you! There is a lot to digest; we will be working on making better titles for better search in the website; in the meantime, use the list of videos by date and keep using this comment section to ask where to go next and I will be your personal concierge! 😀👍

  • From [email protected] on DIAGONAL STANCE SERIES PART 1

Hi Shawn, long time, hope all is well sir!
I’ve come to a point in my stance where regardless of shot shape I simply feel better with my feet open (right handed golfer). Even when hitting a draw I prefer my feet open to the target line. When I get behind the ball for the draw my feet are left and my shoulders are center to right side of the fairway but the odd thing is the draw works. I simply feel better open. Is this an issue or if it feels and works well should I keep using it? Thanks, Nate.

STAY WITH IT!! Always better to be too open than closed and most times you feel open but you are just square; happens to me all the time as well as the vast majority of golfers. Fred Couples, John Daly, Paul Azinger, Rory, Dustin, Bubba, and so many more tend to be more open even when they want to draw the ball.

All I can say is “Wow” Shawn! Great results at the range for all clubs, especially the driver! Long, crisp and powerful shots thru the bag. Thank you so much, I really got a lot out of your Diagonal Series.

These first four lessons in 2022 feel like a super refresher on how you keep us centered but don’t let us restrict our natural body movements. Add in your reminder to keep effort a one out of ten really works too! This generates plenty of power! Great start to the year Shawn.

  • From Christopher Smyser on Making Consistent Contact

I’m on a journey to play more consistent golf and to strike the ball solidly much more often. I am struggling with staying focused on the task and letting my subconscious brain engage my kinetic chain. I’ve been an early extender for years and am still struggling with my spine and head lifting which causes me to release too early. When I make an effort to release later or stay in posture, I tend to hit a lot of fat shots. Shawn, I’m confident your methods will get me there, I just wish I knew how to make it happen faster! Thank you for your help!

      Hi Chris!
start with mastering the “throw the club” drill and get REALLY GOOD with it. Then you master the release with all the “release” videos and then when you throw and don’t let go, you throw into a release that snaps back at you. Then see “PREDICT CONTACT and the “GOLDIE LOCKS SERIES” and KNOW how the ball gets in the way of this throwing snap release and seal the deal with “target confirmation series”

Hi Shawn, I bought the Swing caddy Pro and have been working with it. It kind of shined a light on how to release the club. One question I have though is on the box it came in they say to start the downswing with the shoulders. That’s not really correct is it?

    Go to comment
    • From Shawn Clement on TRAIL HAND RELEASE- LEVITATION SET-UP

Hey Neal! You know that one is not correct; keep your channel tuned in right here only and understand that the human kinetic chain is undeniable. See “kinetic chain facilitation series” for the latest on that!

  • From Tristan Bexton on SQUARE UP THE CLUB FACE

Enjoyed this video, especially the overhead views. I have a few questions – what do you think makes the difference in clubface closure for different people? Anatomical range, body turn through the impact or something else altogether?

The other question I’ve always had is how the heck so many great golfers actually play with a 2 knuckle grip and square face and are able to hit draws a good distance. I wonder if there is a different way to release the club. I realize this is outside the scope of your teachings but any insights would be appreciated!

    • From Shawn Clement on SQUARE UP THE CLUB FACE

Hey Tristan! This is all anatomy of the individual and when they actually learned the game which is why golf is the perfect sport as you can adopt any grip provided it fits you. And this release you talk about with 2 knuckles and even one for several of the guys on tour is exactly in my wheelhouse as the release you see Bryson and Matt Wolf perform is the very same release as I profess in all the release videos in here such as “lead hand release, trail hand release, release fine tuning and snap release polish” THIS IS HUMAN ANATOMY 101; human movement patterns are very much universal, they just come in an infinity of variations! 😀👍

At 1:59 you mention chip takeaway. I haven’t been through all of these vids, but I wonder where else do you expand on that takeaway concept? I don’t feel the same thing in my takeaway. I feel like the trail arm folds a little sooner and wonder if that’s how I get a little stuck.

This is all about allowing the lower body to heave the arm-club unit into the backswing; see the best drill for backswing width in the “lead hand release” and the latest “lead hand release backswing” video! You will see the “chipping” video as well!

For some reason my shaft is too vertical on the follow through ,,, like I’m holding on instead of letting my hands rotate after contact. Should I slow my body down through the ball order to get more whip with the hands?
