Hi Shawn. This spinning feel has really helped my compression and distance with both the irons and woods. It has also increased my strain level. Just seems like I have to swing harder at the bottom feels more like an 8 out of 10. Any drills/video suggestions to help with the strain while retaining the spin motion?
Hey Lyle! Only use momentum to deliver any task; the spinning action is great for engaging the kinetic chain like in the “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series” and you do need a good dose of tone to be able to deliver through with no collapse in the action; just don’t get ready to force PRIOR TO the action; see “pre-motor cortex series”
I’m trying to figure whether over the top is my issue, or why I keep slicing even short clubs. I try following the tips of face/grip relationship, intermediate point and so on. But to avoid the right spin, my blade has to be extremely closed and it will still start too much to the right. I cannot figure what the main issue is. Ideas?
Shawn,
What I love about your system is you say things then they hit me like 6 months later.
I never thought I had a stay w task issue / over the top issue until I realized I’ve been getting correctly setup then defaulting to the ball on 50% of my swings.
Door frame doesn’t really resonate with me. For irons if my miss tends to be in the thin side would sending divots over my IP left or right depending on chosen flight plan work?
For driver is it as simple as throw the club or flick the tee? I played the last few holes today really staying with my IP and my goodness what a difference. Full compression and freedom.
Did this today. I was absolutely NUTTING the ball w my irons. Almost holed out from 170 2x!
The more specific I was with my intent and the deeper I went down to get the divot the more I compressed the ball.
IN YOUR HUMBLE OPINION: What is the task that best translates to driver? I don’t feel that deep kinetic engagement with the driver that I do w 3W and irons.
But this is a game changer. Once I sent some divots into a hazard on the 10th hole (I was 6 over) I played even on the back (harder side) and had 3 birdies in 9 holes. Super excited to continue to hone the divot task!
Can you “throw the blur” as a task? Tried some chips today really focusing on watching the blur as a way to stay anchored and it went VERY well. Making sure I see the blur track and letting the blur release me kept me super anchored. Suitable feel : task?
Do you think the snap is not felt because grip is too weak? Or do you think snap is not felt because release is happening more at the ball? More on snap please.
I second this motion, i pull and snap hook a lot. Also i have a Garmin R10 and using my 10 degree driver i more often than not have a launch angle of 6° or less with an angle of attack + 3 to 4°.
Hi Shawn, is there any task that is akin to casting a fishing rod (wrists hinged) albeit towards a direction that is away from target, before beginning the downswing? it’s just been a random feeling that has seemed to work for me on-and-off recently, just wondering if theres any merit in that “task”
I have seen this before and you will see this at the top of my backswing when the wrists are too relaxed; the hinge and then pop back slightly out of the full hinge as the kinetic chain engages; THIS IS NOT FOR THE CONSCIOUS MIND!! If you feel this happens once in a while, pay no mind to it and stick to delivering your task into the direction you want to start the ball with momentum. Like a baseball hitter when waiting for the pitch, arms relaxed, then he commits to the pitch and as he steps into it, he throws the arms away from himself to deploy the arm-bat unit to bet catched by the kinetic chain. THE CONSCIOUS MIND IS WAY TOO SLOW TO MICRO MANAGE THIS ACTION!
Hi Shawn just joined premium. I am looking for basic videos on driver swing. I am doing pretty good with the irons following your direction, but having a garder time with the transition and downswing with the driver. Any suggestions. Thank you
Hey Edmund! Just saw this; my system was updated and stopped sending me notifications to my comment sections; did you see “long and straight driver series” and the “throwing series hammer throw driver”?
Hi Shawn like everyone I am trying to get more out of the driver. On the monitor I am hitting 98 to 102 mph, but my distances maxes out at about 220. Thoughts on videos I should look at to improve efficiency.? Thank you
Numbers on angle of attack should be 5 degrees up, a couple degrees from the inside and 1 degree of so closed; spin should be below 2200 RPM; if you are getting something similar to that right now, then I recommend you get fit for a new driver as it is not you!
Hi Shawn,
Great series! I am really concentrating on releasing the club with a snap in the direction of my target. I am really able to draw and fade Irons (easier with short through mid Irons) and great impact with Hybrids and 3 Wood although less movement right and left. But I just can’t seem to stop slicing or pulling Driver. I use a very strong grip, knife the grip, I’m concentrating on releasing to the taerget feeling the “snap” but they still fly low left or high slicing right. Any further recommendations?
I see this all the time! See “driver for accuracy video” and hone your skills using the ground as your training aid; many pros on tour use the short tee to stabilize the club face through using the sole of the club to the ground. Then as you get good with this, start raising the tee slightly, and see how you do! Sounds like the ball position is too far forward and you are lunging to get after it…
Shawn, I’m with you on the unstoppable momentum. However, I find it impossible to consistently use my body to make this happen. I know I want to swing freely through the ball and use my momentum, but no matter how hard I try, I just cannot turn my arms off enough to let it happen. They invariable add input and sabotage the entire kinetic chain. I’ve struggling with this for years. I’m not thinking use arms, it just happens. On the rare occasion I can let it freely flow the results are great. I’ve tried cutting the grass, going to a full finish, etc. They work for a little while until my brain figures out how to put back in arm input. I’m hopping you have some Jedi mind tricks to stop this vicious cycle. Paul
Yes, sounds like you are trail arm dominant; like my right handed swing; see the “stop pushing with right hand” video with the use of the double overlapping grip like Jim Furyk!
Great video Shawn! I am reaching new highs every week, year 2 with WIG is looking even more promising than year one. Essentially dual pendulum chaos theory is why we can’t “make sure” in the golf swing huh?
Question, as a right eye dominant golfer when i try and tilt my head address like yours i sort of lose sight of the ball. Any thoughts on this? Is there a better setup for a right eye dominant, right handed golfer?
Grab an eye patch from Amazon! You’ll be the pirate golfer!
As an Optometrist binocular vision for R dominant eyes can make you line up a little right of target.
Try holding a club in the air and cover your right eye with the palm of your hand and line up.
.
Swap hands and cover your left eye. See if there’s a difference?
If I ever get this release to the target thing going, I want a certificate…. something like a 2 year diploma in WIG and overcoming conventional golf teaching. And a bag tag… can I please get a bag tag…..
Shawn I have watched u, sav, and mo, swing the driver numerous times left handed on your utube video and I have noticed that u tell us to see the blur which I now see but u suggest allowing the club to swing freely where it wants to go then setting up there. However I have a couple questions the first being we have all been taught to setup about a fist and thumb away from our body to address the ball with the club. Yet u suggest letting a practice swing determine where we need to be as u say the arms will get pulled out further from our body on driver? So I am confused on where I start behind the ball and where my hands should be as we were also taught to taught the back elbow?
Hi Clarence! Fist and thumb drill is one of the most ridiculous things that has been taught out here in this game; it has single handedly held back golfers from enjoying their long irons and woods and driver in the worst way. Sorry you had to go through that and just erase anything that resembles this. See “distance to ball” and the “goldilocks series” has a video completely dedicated to distance to ball with all clubs as well as the “throwing series” which deals with throwing clubs of all different lengths. Enjoy your new freedom!
