Still struggling with lag Shawn…this video has me thinking that I might be able to drop a baseball donut onto a club and try to build the lag feel with that (actually making the club feel more like a sledge hammer). Is that a horrible idea?
Those doughnuts are pretty good actually; JUST DON’T STRAIN WITH THEM PLEASE. Pretend you are throwing the doughnut towards the target smoothly and feel how your get pulled into a nice extension well past the ball and into the target! See “target confirmation series” and match that with “predict contact” and “goldie locks series” videos so that you can predict that the ball will be struck purely IF YOU THROW INTO THAT STRETCH FEEL TO TARGET!
Alright…off to Big 5.
Hi Shawn,
New member here and I’ve enjoyed your YouTube videos so much that I decided to become a premium member. Trying to connect movements of this video to “skipping the stone” and having some challenges. For me, skipping the stone helps me to swing my arms freely and allow the club “cut the dandelion” as you would say.
For a novice like me, my question is how “skipping the stone” and the “battering ram” relate to one another and how to incorporate both into practice and eventually into being?
Thank you!!
Very good! We are using the weight of the battering ram to deliver the momentum necessary to throw the stone with velocity and ease. See “anti-manipulation” and “football drill” series next! 👍
I don’t know if there is a way to bump this thread so that all members can see it, but I’d like to do that. This video plus the ones on the “skipping the stone” visualization have been revolutionary for me. I added my interpretation of your battering ram feel today; this is something I have tried many times before in the past 2 years but today the feel finally clicked. It is 54 F. here and we are using range balls that are 6 months old and been hit thousands of times (very busy driving range). I was hitting my 9 iron 180 carry, repeatedly! It is lofted at 40 degrees, so not nuked. No wind for once.
Was killing it with all clubs, especially the 3 wood and driver. Coupled with the “skip the stone” move it really works for me. My 3 wood speed was around 103; my driver speed jumped up to 111 -112 for most of the session. And they were going right where I was aiming. Just phenomenal! Thanks for all you do, we really appreciate it.
Stupendous stuff Thomas! Really happy you are crushing it in more ways than one!
Thank you for taking the time to write and for your perseverance; this is where it pays off.

perhaps I should follow this up; I was at the range yesterday, I warm up starting with the 9 iron. There was a headwind and it was 50*F. but the 9 was only going 140. Why? Because I was sloppy, didn’t have my targets, no flight plan, weight distribution was off, bad ball position. These things add up. When I went back to Shawn’s system the distance came back. So it’s not the club, it’s paying attention to the right setup, targets, etc.
Exactly! And every day will be a bit different; this is why it’s important to take the time to warm up to see who you brought to the dance! 😀👍
Im curious why you dont swing the battering ram with your right hand in an underhanded position so that the drill also encourages the elbow leading position
Hmmm; great point!! With hammer and sledge hammer and axe yes; could work! 😀👍
Hi, tried this one on the range yesterday and got much better contact with a piercing ball flight (I usually hit the ball quite high and an good 7 iron is about 145 yards for me). I am a 24 handicap and play once a fortnight, just want to know how this drill effects swing thought? Ive been using the cut the grass image and throw to the target but with this drill I’m thinking ramming the handle through the door. Is one thought better than the other or should I have this thought only whilst using the drill and not whilst on the course?
Good stuff! This is exactly what these images are for, to get you to feel the right “dual pendulum release through the ball” and then you take the feel and match it to the images on the golf course; I use battering ram for low shots into the wind, draws and low stinger tee shots! I use carrot peels for short iron and full wedges, dandelion stem cutting for all fades and flops and chips.

I’m getting an error message: “Player error. The player is having trouble. We’ll have it back up and running as soon as possible.” Anyone else get this?
Could be that Vimeo is having issues; we get these rarely;
Does this happen on all videos you try to watch on our site?
Only this video. Everything else works great! I’ll try tomorrow. Thanks!
