Hi Shawn, I was doing a dumbbell workout today when I thought let me try to get a feel for throwing a sandbag. I was using a 20 lb dumbbell with one hand on each side. After a few tries I ended up going into perpetual motion, letting my body get out of the way as each arm swung through. Using the dumbbell I felt myself naturally squat, I can’t wait to go out tomorrow and simulate that while swinging a club!

Shawn, after watching this video on the Battering Ram, I watched an old video of my swing in slow motion and I saw myself releasing too early in the down swing, absolutely zero lag in my wrist and hands, and the club was bowed forward before it hit the ball with a resulting, almost chicken wing on left arm. The main thing that I saw was the butt of the club did not lead the swing.

So, would visualizing the battering ram with the butt of the club leading the swing be the right drill to instill in my downswing along with changing my target from the ball to where I want to go with the ball help? Is there another drill that you can offer to help me lead with the butt of the club. Hard to change old habits! But when you see my video compared to yours, it is very obvious my problems.

One last issue. You don’t speak about wrists very much. With your emphasis on not letting the grip be too soft, but more firm, what about your wrists. Should they remain loose throughout the swing?

Shawn when swing with my left arm only I have good speed (for me). Same speed with my right arm only. With both hands on the club the speed diminishes by about 15mph. I cannot figure out what is going on for the life of me.
Help! Please!

keep up the great lessons.

cheers,

Gordon

What kind of door frame visual would you have with the driver for battering ram?

Hi Shawn, what about for draw/fade? I ve got hope in this drill it seems to work better for me eventhough it’s a bit tricky cause eyes are on the grass and the focus is more on my hands.

Shawn Clement

This drill is more for the visual and the understanding of what happens coming into impact. For the draw and fade, see “working the ball” and then “draw fine tuning” and “fade fine tuning”

Hi Shawn, I am a new Eagel member from Norway (12 HCP). I struggling with fat shots special with long irons and woods. Is The battering ram exercise a god way to cure that issue? I also have tendency of early release. Lokking forward for your feed back and practice tips. Kind regards Egil

O, is It possible I hit The ball fat becours The distance from The ball is to fare? When I look at The video compared to my set up it looks like I have more distace to The ball…. Thanks for answer Shawn…

Shawn, I recently became an Eagle member a few days ago but have followed your videos and instruction on YouTube for some time. One of my major “hang-ups” is getting the squat and allowing my body to use gravity to get the club through to the target. Is this the catapult analogy you use in several videos or is there another “feel/drill” that I should be aware of?

Thanks!
