Hi Shawn- Been on the site for about 6 weeks. Enjoying the challenge and change. However, with the club in hand, I’m having a difficult time feeling the “arm-club”unit. If I let my arms hang free (no club), and heave them back and forth, no issue. Holding a sledgehammer or 4lb hammer, not an issue and I can feel the unit quite well. Once the club is back in hand the problem rears it head. Appreciate any thoughts. Thanks. -Doug

See “using the weight in your swing-axe drill with Savy” and learn how to hit shots that way; also “shawn’s new favourite drill” is excellent for that. Then see “pumping up the swing volume”

Hi Shawn, I noticed that a few of the tasks are using the arm muscles and body to complete the task. This is confusing to me because Im understanding that I shouldnt’ be using any muscles in the arms to swing. Am I missing something here?

Are the arms supposed to feel very loose in the swing? Should i let the arms do their own thing going back and through?

What muscles do you use to pull the trigger on the backswing?

The key here is providing TONE to the arms; if they are too loose, then when the kinetic chain grabs them, it’s like a catapult with a paper arm! So we are using momentum to complete all tasks; cutting through stem, throwing the club, sending grass clippings or divots, squeezing through door frames, spinning tees…You want to ready that momentum to carry you through all the way to the finish and stick the finish.

Hi Shawn, You mention the word tasks alot. I understand that you need to prepare a task in your mind and have the picture there before you swing. I would like to have the thought of skipping a stone on the water using my right hand because i feel i can generate a lot of power using my right hand to release the club. Is there anything wrong with this approach or Is there a better way?

I’ve heard you use the term ‘gather’ at the top of the backswing but I haven’t seen a video explaining what that means. Can you point me in the right direction?

Shawn Clement

Hi Patrick! Yes, a term used to show the importance of using momentum in the swing; See Using weight in your swing-axe drill will Savy, then “backswing levitation” and then the “unstoppable momentum videos which are combined with “arc-blur” and are one of my favourite sensations as it feels like you can effortlessly PASTE or COMPRESS THROUGH the ball and into the picture. Enjoy!

Hi Shawn how do I know if I am heaving to hi in the backswing. What does too high feel like.

Shawn Clement

It will feel like there is no way back to the target! See “arc-blur unstoppable momentum series” and if you feel you can no longer follow your arc back out through your intermediate point and you are constantly “blacking out” at the top of the backswing, you are pulling yourself off the task. See also “how to match backswing to ball direction” and “target confirmation series”
