Hi Shawn,

I’m a 62 and 300+ Lbs. I’ve been playing golf for about 3+ years. Until lately I’ve made a strong effort to improve my swing. Now I am trying to apply your Wisdom golf principles and find it very difficult to complete a full body turn. I am able to shift going back but I am unable to fully turn forward and clear my body. So when I try to complete a full body shift I end up with the chicken wing. for some reason I have a block completing clearing my body. What do you recommend that will help me clear my body going forward? I wish some of your golfers were overweight to see how the body is cleared.

Shawn Clement

Hey Albert! No worries, you are not defective!
see “throwing the club” and “the throwing series” and find a nice safe place to throw some steel shafted older clubs and you will feel and see exactly how much you should clear to get the club to go to the target. Film yourself throwing the club that way and see the chicken wing disappear. Then see “predict contact” and “the goldie locks series” as well as the “target confirmation series” and all of the videos that come up from the key word “release” in the search box of the premium channel.

Hi Shawn,

New subscriber here… Been golfing for a number of years. I’m a 60 y/o lefty. After watching and implementing some of the techniques, I went to the range a few times and starting hitting the ball better than I have in a long time… using the neutral grip with the club closed to about 45deg.. using the intermediate point etc. I was very satisfied.. Until yesterday when I went out to play 9 holes for the first time this year. Needless to say I was all over the place.. mostly with pushes to to L..bad missing, hanging back, etc… my nice little draw was nowhere to be found. I found myself concentration on swinging left of my intermediate point… throwing the club, etc. but I was lost. In assessing after the round, I was probably still too focused on the hitting the ball, even though I was telling myself not to. There are so many videos.. can you recommend some that I could watch and try to implement that would help me out?

Best Regards,
Rich

Thanks for the quick reply! I’ll definitely check out the videos mentioned above. Also I came across a video where you talked about looking between the ball in the leading edge of the club and concentrating on swinging through at that spot which I think may help me to stay more on task, and not hanging back or hitting at the ball.

I think or hope I’m starting to get this. I may have had a aha moment today Shawn! I was hitting pushes and pulls with my 5 iron and Then I remembered to start turning my body to get a full back swing. Then heel came up bit off the ground and replanted swinging through beautiful and I released and hit a straight shot. Or should I say that the club released me. Of course I discovered this at the end of the bucket cant wait to go back tomorrow

Shawn Clement

Yes!!! Many of my students in this winter’s class just added 30 yards to their irons by doing this. For decades, golfers have been told to “keep the heel down” and “resist with the legs” and “keep the knees in the same flex” and this has been a real thorn in the side for the VAST MAJORITY of golfers. We are bilateral machines which means we are experts at walking either stationary or not. Stay with this! 👍😀💪

The chicken or the egg? Which comes first, does the body react to the arms swinging or does the body use ground forces to swing the arms? Thanx!

Tyrone Williams

Somewhat cryptic but it worked! Thanks!!

So…. if we are using gravity and allowing our bodies to get out of the way…. how do we increase more club head speed and gain more distance?
