Shawn – What cadence do you prefer during perpetual motion drill? On older videos (YouTube), I heard “plant, fall”, or “plant, toss”. On premium videos, “toss, plant, whip”, “1,2,3”. This may be a silly question, but it helps with my rhythm and kinetic chain. Thanks!
Do the walking drill and see how it speaks to you and come back with what you find!😀👍
I keep hearing “plant/fall”. If I “toss” the club, it leads to manipulation at times, or my classic over-swing. This drill also helps me feel the ground with my feet. I’m 6’-5’, and often struggle to feel the ground during my swing. Side note, I broke 80 this weekend for first time this year!
Another very complementary video to this is the “walking drill” video; timing in the swing will be revealed in spades in this one!

Extremely helpful Shawn! And thanks for making it in!

PS Using your tuition and getting out of my way I saw figures on my Swing Speed radar for driver I had never seen reached except by one of my scratch friends! (Prev only occasionally in high 80s yesterday 115) Very exciting and promising although I still have a lot to do!
Now that is what we call progress! Very sweet and congrats!

Love this drill. I have a question. Can you push off from the left leg on the downswing?
Yes of course! You want to see my “one leg drill and feet together update shawn clement” video for that; it will get you a more complete picture!
Shawn
Thank you Shawn, just comparing this to one of your early YouTube driver videos where you mention at impact your shoulders, knees, hips, feet are in line with your target at impact but in this drill it looks like shoulders are opening up at impact can you clarify if this is important. Here is video link and I am referring to 4:42 mark in video. https://youtu.be/u68RZjdnVMs
This is a feel thing! It will feel much more square compared to releasing at the ball! When you stay on the “ball on a string task” through the tip of the tee towards the intermediate point, you get a feel that is way less open.

Thank you for you response Shawn, could not view your video link for some reason; is there any other way you can forward me the video? Thank you.
Sorry, that was the link in my edit section;

Thank you Shawn, tried some of this at the range today, was struggling with shots super low and hooking for. OST of a bucket of balls until I did two things: 1) fully complete the backswing and 2) felt the club release me in the direction of my swing, but at a higher height feel/level in that direction, versus low towards the ground in that direction.
Very good!
Keep it up!
Shawn
Hi Shawn
on my swing do i have to think about firing hips first then arms to follow thru your intermidiate marker or everything goes together in the swing
No thinking about the hips at all, nor about the weight shift!
What would be a task to get you through?
Feel a nice snap in the direction you want the ball to start! Send a carrot peel to the direction you want the ball to start! Throw the club to the target and predict the stem of the dandelion os in the way!!
