Dear Shawn, I get a little confused while swinging. Should I focus on the task (cutting grass or going through the door frame) or being a witness to the club releasing me? When I focus on either, the other thing slips away. Is there a trick to solving this problem? Thanks
Hi Asad! Yes!
You make the cutting of the grass A PREDICTION based on you THROWING THE CLUB in the direction you want to start the ball;
So, the question you ask is: when you throw the club into a nice release in this direction, do you feel low enough that the club will cut the grass on the way?
If the answer is yes, then you stay with the throw and release with ease and velocity; a nice full throw.
Then see what happens AFTER THE THROW and do not make sure or be careful.
Dear Shawn, someone advised that on my back swing, my lead knee should not rotate in beyond the ball. It should basically stay straight or at max turn upto the ball. This helps me some with contact, but wanted to check with you of that is something I should be thinking about.
Hi Asad!
That way of thinking is so massively ignorant and antiquated and is the reason Golf is in the state it is in today; PLEASE PLEASE IGNORE THAT PERSON. It is not their fault, they are just regurgitating something that too many teachers were jamming down golfers throats in the “BE CAREFUL-WATCH OUT- MAKE SURE’ era of golf these last 30 years.
Tell them to look at Matt Wolff, Jack Nicklaus, Sam Snead, Bobby Jones, Bubba Watson, and so many other hall of fame GREAT PLAYERS AND BALL STRIKERS and then tell them to do their homework on anatomy and the evolution of human movement and motor skill learning.
Thanks for sharing your wisdom! Does the face of the hammer represent the face of the club or the sole?
…or leading edge?
When doing the hammer drill, the face of the club is the face or business end of the hammer;
When cutting stems of dandelions, people don’t realize that the sole or leading edge cannot get to the stem in the center of the dandelion before the ball meets the club face!
Set a ball against a door frame and see for yourself!

Shawn, does the same principle of swing apply to the driver and hybrids? I have benefitted from the concept of ‘being a witness to the club releasing me’ in my irons. It makes the swing automatic and I am able to engage my unconscious mind. Great video.
Hi Asad!
Yes, but it will feel a bit different and a bit less emphatic as the arms and club come through on a flatter plane;
Really enjoying the various concepts… getting me on track. I notice however my follow thru is still inclined to move left and around, not so much up as Shawn exhibits. Might this be the tendency to use body first rather than free swinging arm “unit”.
Hi Jack!
The key here is to stay with the task all the way to the bitter end!
See “club speed” video where I am throwing clubs; see if you can find a nice safe spot to do the same!
Shawn
Shawn – you are without peer… you just cured my slice!!!
As I have started to address the ball I have steadfastly tired to keep the club face pointing at the target at address as I adopt my stance… and was wondering why I was slicing.
You really do ROCK!!!! Thanks mate.
Regards Rob
There you go man!
Great stuff!!
