How does the rollover of the right hand over the left hand release explained in this video relate to your dynamic squaring of the clubface by starting with a somewhat closed face at address? Seems like closing the clubface at address combined with the rollover of the hands during the release would cause the clubface to bee overly closed dynamically. Your thoughts?

Shawn Clement

99% of golfers would think this because of their STATIC THINKING! How do you explain Dustin Johnson having a strong grip, AND BOWING THE WRISTS AT THE TOP OF THE BACKSWING which sends the club face super closed and then PLAY FADES ALL DAY?? Because he is delivering deep deep deep into the target which gives him incredibly deep lag which opens the face back up dynamically. We collect the ball from where it lies and we release the ball deep into the flight plan to where we want it to end.

Thanks

Shawn, I am new to your site and absolutely love your method.I recently tore a couple of intercostal muscles in my ribs and decided then I had to try a different approach to golf. I have been going through the lessons and it hasbeen hit or miss. I was on the range today in 31 degree German weather and decided to slow my swing down and found that the feeling of throwing the club helped my swing. I was not getting a proper release. Funny thing happened, I thought because it was cold I was only hitting my 7 iron 150 yards and was confused because I was makex basted solid contact and on target with my midpoint target. Then I looked at my club and found out it was my 9 iron. I really love and appreciate this wonderful and effortless swing. I think my problem was not letting go for the release and was cighting the gravity pull. What are your thoughts and I do think throwing the club towards my target was finally my aha moment. Amazing and thanks for all your wisdom! You’re great!

Shawn Clement

Right on Neil! You are now on the roller coaster and all you need to do is stay on it. You will have highs and lows but the peaks and valleys will naturally point upwards and you will enjoy the ah ha moments along the way! 😀👍
-next is to polish your release so that when you throw the club, the weight of the club will release your arm anatomy to anchor your shots into the flight plan. See also “blur of club” and the “arc blur unstoppable momentum series” after you have seen and practiced the “lead hand release”-“trail hand release”-“release fine tuning” and “snap release polish videos”-as you continue to get good with your throwing, you will see “turbo charge lead hand and trail hand release” and “the goldie locks series” and predict contact” to have the ball perfectly in the way of your throwing action. Keep us posted with your progress please!

Hi Shawn, this is something that you’ve pointed out that I need to work on and this is awesome! I just ordered this aid and saw a slightly different desired use of it and I was wondering if you’d give me your thoughts? (1880) GOLF: Impact Snap Training Aid Review – YouTube

Thanks very much,
Ron

Shawn Clement

Use my way of using this tool; their way is very silly as it is like a checked baseball swing; they are not sure what to make of my version because they don’t understand basic human arm anatomy!! Sad but it’s a product that works well when used properly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HgwCEltLmQ

Ron Dziuk

Your way seems more natural and theirs seems like he’s holding off. If it was a baseball bat, trying to push it into right field. I was confused because I think that he’s a representative for the product.

Thanks for your response, Shawn and not being offended by my question.

Take care,
Ron

Shawn Clement

Exactly! They actually designed it to show you how to “check” your baseball swing! Good, I am glad you saw through that!

Hey Shawn! I’ve been watching this, lead hand release and trail hand release and am understanding the concepts. When at home doing air swings and in practice swings I’m really able to feel the club brush the turf and release to the target and feel the club turning me over.

However I am really struggling to replicate these same movements when a ball is in the way, I’m doing my best to focus on the target itself and swinging through to the target instead of the ball. When the ball is there I’m not able to make the same movements and I hit the ball heavy, get that chicken wing and seem to guide the club through rather than properly releasing like I do in practice/air swings.

Do you have any advice to help with this as the concepts are so clear but my body just won’t let me perform them with a ball in the way!

Next for you in “predict contact” and the “goldie Locks series” and then “target confirmation series” and “stick the finish despite the ball” series!

Jack Taylor

Great stuff Shawn, from the videos prescribed so far I’m developing my prediction and task in my mind so that when I next go to the range or course I have this firmly and clearly set so there’s no room for unnecessary thoughts!

We established my release is the first thing to work on so I wanted to check with you that the prediction and task I’ve developed fits the bill? Let me know what you think! 👍

Prediction and task: The sole of the club is going to cut through the dandelion stem before brushing the ground on the way to the club being thrown at where I want the ball to start

Shawn Clement

You are now officially barking up the right tree!!😀👍👌

Shawn,
I am left handed and it doesn’t matter if I am hitting Driver or my Irons I am hitting a high fade almost fills like I am trying to help with the release . The ball is flying off to my left, When I fill like I am doing it right I get a nice high draw, I want that feeling more what can I work on? I will be doing another lesson with you real soon. Just trying to get better will throwing the club me?

Shawn Clement

Hi Tony! See “draw fine tuning” video as well as the “goldie locks series” video that pertains to grip and club face relationship. If you feel like you are REALLY EXAGGERATING to close the face and you are still struggling to draw, then you need to polish the release in which you want to see “lead hand release” videos, then “trail hand release” videos and then the “release fine tuning” and “snap release polish” videos.

the only other thing to prevent you from releasing is the centre of the swing is moving which you can quiet down immediately with “feet together drill” and you can combine all the above videos with feet together drill while hitting golf shots. Enjoy!

Shawn
