Hi Shawn. I am wondering if you release the lead hand any differently between hitting a draw and a fade? I currently am struggling with blocking a lot of my shots out to the right, so I am definitely not releasing the club properly. I want to initially concentrate on drawing my shots, but I was wondering if you purposely restrict your release ( rolling of the lead wrist ) when hitting a fade? Thanks so much for everything. Your videos are amazing!
The answer is no; no restrictions whatsoever; however, as a direct result of you releasing fully in the direction you want the ball to start, with the picture in your mind of it fading back to the target with the ball position slightly forward of center instead of back of center, you get the results naturally. Full abandon, full release, no holding on. Club face might need to be 2 degrees more open than with a draw, which is way less open than most would use when fading the ball!
I think I sent this query, but I didnt see your answer. I read that Sav prefers to think of a leading hand frisbee throw to initiate the kinetic chain and mimic a release. I havent seen you address this directly. What are the advantages and disadvantages of that analogy? Thank you for all you are doing to clarify this heretofore poorly taught sport
Yes, because she is playing to her backhand, it is a very sound task-analogy-feel for her; we have evolved to a tennis 2 hand backhand or a baseball swing which is more complete as it includes both sides and forces the body to clear more to the target to accommodate the trail arm and prevent any collapse of the lead arm in the process. So many players on tour with this same way of going about things!
Hi Shawn,
can you clearly (for me) tell what you mean by the mass is completly behind the hit?
And how to do so and compress the ball and the same time.
Do exactly what I say in this video; get behind a doorframe with a hammer and get ready to hammer a nail into the doorframe horizontally at about waist high. Use the extremes (goldie-locks) to find which position is too far from the door and where you would be too much in front.
You need to do this to experience it for yourself! 👍😀
Hey Shawn, I’m lefty playing right-handed. Do you have more vids for my situation? I don’t skip a stone with my right hand. I see a lot about throwing with the trail hand. I can but not as well as my left. What do you think teacher? Help
I have a ton of those videos now; see the “backhand series” for golf wrx; all my “lead hand” videos on youtube; my series with my daughter Savvy “be savvy with your grip shawn clement” or “be savvy with your turn shawn clement” will get you to them;
Man o man….you call it tension n strain…for me i felt restriction to my left side.. i can totally tell i was fighting the release n now i can sense so much freedom….duhhhhh….gr8 vid also…dc
Right on Dan! Glad you are having these terrific epiphanies!
