Hi Shawn and team, dropping the right foot also moves the ball position correct? (since we are essentially just changing direction instead of moving “around the cirlce” of the ball.) Is it fair to say, that when first setting up, line the ball up a little more toward the center (so if normally you’d play off your lead instep, play maybe a ball width toward center). Then when we drop our trail foot back, the ball position should move forward just a smidge to be a nice comfortable position? I think if you don’t adjust for this, then the ball will be too far forward and throw off the prediction?
Thanks,
Yes, ball position will need to change; but not the way that you mention; it will need to move back a smidge; also, when you switch the feet to diagonal, you want to do it with both, not just the back one;
Bottom line is when you feel that the swing will and can stay to the right of the intermediate point, that you feel the tee is at the right place to be clipped slightly on the way up and that the ball can stay in the direction you want it to start;

Hi Shawn, I am really inconsistent with driver , some weeks great others not so good . I recently went to my 5 wood as I was either hitting the 5 wood the same difference or driver was 10 yards further not much in it , however accuracy was much better . I can only use the driver if the ball is just forward of centre, however I do hit it very high.
Ball flight is usually slight fade or straight.
Do have any videos I could watch that might help with consistency with the driver , bad shot is hook and usually results in 2-3 lost balls a round , thanks graham
Hi Graham!
Have you ever been fit for the driver?
Swing to left edge of intermediate point to hit driver fade? I feel like I will either hit a draw or a huge draw. I can’t visually paint the picture to swing at to hit a fade.
See a cool video called “lesson with John Shawn Clement” on youtube; a great visual for fades with the real grass whip;

Shawn – is this something I should do as well? We didn’t work on this specifically last month.
Because we were doing fades with the driver…
Re-visiting this concept and video today; as usual I seem to get more out of your videos with multiple viewings. I have never had a problem drawing the ball, but I was missing it left with my old swing and previous unforgiving driver. I did some experimenting Sunday and found that with a slightly open stance the CHS was lower than with a square stance. Then I remembered that I was using a closed stance 3 years ago when I was just beginning and I was hitting a Titleist 915 3wood 260 carry and the driver 280 carry, close to 300 total. Those are probably max numbers for me and something I’ve been trying desperately to get back to. So perhaps a closed stance is more mechanically correct with those clubs producing faster speed? I wonder if anyone else has experimented with this?
Hi Shawn,
I’m a new subscriber and very excited about the great new potential your instruction is giving me. This driver nugget is particularly revolutionary to my confidence with the driver! I’m still developing a “target” mindset and not body positions. When I get it right I have picked up a 2club increase in distance across the board! When I get ball focused I either suffer a complete miss hit low left and fat or a big pull hook. Anyway, thanks so much for helping get much more enjoyment while I improve.

Right on Mark! This is exactly how it is supposed to work when evolving into a task!
Solid benchmarks to give the brain the right feel, sound and look so it knows where to go; you just give it clear tasks to accomplish! 😀👍
Yes! For the reasons right here in this video! The length of the driver has a swing that now pulls more away from you and you need to pre-deploy the arm-club unit away from yourself at address. Hogan had the wedge handle almost between the knees but looked like Moe Norman with the 3 wood!
So with this outward pull, you need support! In comes the diagonal stance or closed stance as you put it.
Set up dynamically, meaning you are getting ready to deliver an action with the driver through the tip of tee in the direction of the intermediate point and you feel that the feet are able to support you WELL PAST THE BALL.
Follow-up: After applying this “Golden Nugget” to my driver… I am thrilled with the improved results. In addition to utilizing this to the driver, I’ve also applied it to my longer clubs (my hybrids) with great results as well. I had previously fought an unwanted and inconsistent fade/slice on my 200 +/- shots. With this method they are pretty much flying toward my target. Yesterday I reached two Par 5s on my second shots and Birdied both of them.
Thanks Shawn!!!
This is what we call bliss!!! So happy for you!! The next round of golf cannot come fast enough now huh??😀👍😝
This makes a lot of sense Thomas, and Hogan would concur immediately!!
Could you use this for long iron and fairway woods as well?
Yes, you bet! Because of the length of the shaft on those clubs has a more outward pull away from the body…
