When i take the club back with my arms the downswing there should not be any force or
manipulation with my arms correct?
Great video as always. I have a question about the grip which I haven´t been able to figure out yet. I look at your videos and it seems as if the clubface is pointing in the direction you want the ball to start.(draw – a little bit open) Shall I first take the grip (normal grip closed face? or strong grip just a bit closed) and then aim the clubface in the direction I want the ball to start – never adjusting the grip afterwards – I´ve seen Horsel do that – but he is an exemption.
Usually I see players aim the clubface first and then take the grip.
I am confused where to start. Aim the clubface and then take the grip feels strange to me. I feel I have to manipulate to get the clubface closed (looks like I aming to the left) and then adjust the body (tilt) which will provide the strong grip (tiny open face look).
I usually stand behind the ball and chose my target and visualize ball flight – at that point I am also closing the face a bit (differ from club to club???) Then I align my body without changing the grip. I often think – is this the right way to do it? Not so good to have that thought coming into my mind at that point.

IT IS NOT ABOUT AIMING THE CLUBFACE. This would be static thinking. The arm-club unit does not look at all the way it does through impact vs at address. So what we do is get a task such as whip through the stem of the dandelion into the direction you want the ball to start (like in the “grass whip training” video) and see how the ball flies. After you see a pattern, you can then make adjustments to close or open the face or make the grip stronger or a bit of both to suit the shot you want to hit.
see “draw fine tuning” and “fade fine tuning” first
then polish the release patterns of your anatomy with all the “release” videos
then polish fade and draw fine tuning again.
finally, see “predict contact” and “the goldie locks series” to apply these new predictions on your shot making sessions and on the golf course when you are not comfortable over your shots.

the LA shaft is pretty spectacular to be honest; it’s between that and the Tensei White 75 gram shaft in 44 inches long.
Just another case of senior CRS. LOL Been hearing a lot of good things about LA shafts. Can’t wait for the next installment in this series. My biggest problem with the driver is on tee boxes that aim you directly at the trouble (i.e the woods) totally messes with my head. I know where to aim but my body wants to swing perpendicular to the tee markers instead of down my toe line.
Could you describe a little more about grip pressure as club shaft approaches and reaches top of backswing?
Sometimes I find a battle between 3 elements: getting club shaft horizontal (ish); while not feeling that wrist cock is limiting range of motion to reach that goal; and grip pressure at that point in the swing. I find a tendency to loosen my trail hand grip pressure, to create (or allow) the club shaft to droop enough. Which I suspect is a speed leak. I get “tone for task” when it comes to grip; but applying in dynamic movement a work in progress.
Don’t know if it’s related: over time, I develop regularly a nickel-size hole on bottom corner of lead hand glove.

Just joined the family! I am really getting confused. Should my club face be closed at address or should it appear square when I get behind the ball? I’ve just come off a horrible 9 holes, and feel more lost than when I first signed up with you.
Hey Michael! Everyone is different!! Please see “predict contact” and the “goldie locks series” to fine tune the set up to match it to your picture and see the “task trumps everything” and “top 3 tasks” and “task update” videos and get locked in on a favourite task; then come back with your findings please!
For the vast majority of golfers. Yes! Many exceptions though; and the way to tell for sure is when you can confirm your task has made it all the way through with ease in the direction you want to start the ball and the ball is going straight or curving the way you want, then the grip-clubface combo is good. See “draw fine tuning” and “fade fine tuning” and the “goldie locks series” and “predict contact” videos.
I really like the feel of lead and trail hand release swinging the sword. It feels great when I do them individually. What breaks down is when the hands are together. It just does not feel like the hands work together well. I don’t get that yield feeling with the lead hand that allows the trail hand to slash like when I just have one hand on the club. Any suggestions?
Hi Shawn thanks for analysing my swing and telling me I’m aiming far to right the thing is i I’m always set up for a draw and i pull my right shoulders back so it makes the back swing easier on my back and hip .I’ve been doing what you said aim left and swings towards the target only with a 7 iron not sure yet if i could do it with a driver as can’t make much of a back swing with out hurting my back what do you think cheers Steve

Hi Shawn, I’m new to the series so this might be covered later but a fundamental question I had was asked and almost answered in this thread, which is where to focus one’s eyes. Your answer was “Eyes are on the grass between the leading edge and the ball.” My question is leading edge of what?
Hi Shawn, with this drill is your spine pre-tilted as you walk and swing, and if so it seems much harder to maintaine the angle.. Or there’s no pre tilt or turn for this drill and if so are they entirely necessary for actually hitting/swinging a ball? Thanks for clarifying my confusion!

Hi Shawn played today with the way you said aim left swing right hitting the ball well most shots went straight but didn’t draw the ball at all. Shall i carry on using this swing then gradually start to square my shoulders. Didn’t think i could hit the ball so good with such an open stance. Cheers Steve
This was a very helpful video. One question, Shawn, I can’t really see it in the video but is the initial takeaway supposed to feel like you are moving the club head along the (opposite of) the target line? And consequently the club head gets on a circular path? I think I’ve always tried to put the club head on a circular path and have been consequently rotating and early hinging excessively.
This is the job for “perpetual motion drill series” and “blur of club video”
when you swing from the follow through back into the backswing, g forces are already tracking the club on an arc and you want to observe this arc as it goes back into the backswing and you will see how tidy it becomes. You will see it in the walking drill and the drone views in the “kinetic chain facilitation series” as well.
