Shawn, when I try to engage my legs in the downswing with a “squat” to get my upper body out of the way and increase the power of swinging my arm/club unit, I tend to hit fat shots.when I squat. Is the problem timing of the squat or something else? I need to improve my use of my legs to engage the ground with the up and down moves during the swing. Your suggestions would be appreciated. Hey Dan!
the catch is you never want to think about the legs because then you take the focus off the target which will shut the legs down. Go to the “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series” and use the task in that video series of walking while sending grass divots or clippings into the direction of the target. Get really good at this task and then Alternate between that and hitting shots and the swing will adopt this quickly because it is so rhythmic and powerful and big time on path of least resistance just what the brain loves!
Hi Kent! Have you done the “throw the club” and the “throwing series” and actually gone out and throw clubs? This is an important right of passage for a true golfer! Make sure you have a nice open and safe place to do this and use old steel shafted clubs!

Finally realising what an effortless swing should be.
Wee bit confused at setup with the IP, i doubt it makes a difference but its been bothering me.
I see my target and take an ip between the ball and the target.
After the club selection, practice swings, I setup vary of my ball position.
Do I Tilt and then get the feel of the club aiming at IP after which I swing a little right of the IP for a draw
VS
what I have been doing, where I aim over IP BEFORE the tilt when standing over the
ball result is that I am automatically ready to hit right of the IP when I tilt.
I don’t have a golf course near me, closest one is 2 hours away. So been really working with the swing on a cage I had made at home.
Keep doing what you have been doing; what is important is that the tilt feels balanced and is what is allowing you to deliver THROUGH THE BALL along the ground and out into full access release into the direction of flight
hey shawn, love the content and videos, they are incredibly insightful. i have a quesiton in regards to shoulders at set up. you seem to have a slight tilt(left above right) at set up even for irons. is that the case? i have always been told to have level shoulders, with the exception of driver. can you elaborate/explain the set up of shoulders in regards to tilt at set up? thanks
Oooooh yes!! This one is incredibly important and to have the shoulders level at address is to MASSIVELY SABOTAGE THE GOLF SWING. PLEASE SEE “important grip update” and “hammer drill” and the first couple videos in the “consistency series” as well as the “braced tilt” and “tilt mile markers”; this will get you fully updated on how a human machine is designed to deliver a ball to the target vs having the ball as the target (which would be utter chaos for the brain)

Beginning of the season for Cobra; but our stuff took a while to get all in and we are finally there so we are now able to do pictures and stuff for websites and social; as for no control, what you need is full predictability and clarity before each shot; see “predict contact” and the “goldie locks series” and practice locking in your set up to match your flight plans; and 2 golden rules for choosing flight plans: never release towards trouble and never put yourself in a position to strain.
Hi Shawn, love the work you’re doing! Your instructions have been the best I’ve ever received! Makes so much sense and so simple. Unlearning all the stuff I’ve picked up over the last 27 years is difficult.
My question. I’ve been taking an easy swing with the driver. Using battering ram, nick the tee, and make it tumble. I have the throwing the club sensation and am focused on the farther and picture. My problem is distance. I’m only getting about 250-260 carry. I have a Titleist 910D2 9.5 driver with a Diamana ki’li 65 mid s-flex shaft.
I appreciate any advice/suggestions you have. Wish I could fly to Canada for a one on one lesson!
Hi JD! Yes, you can definitely get way lower spinning drivers than that one now; you should go try out a few different models on a proper launch monitor at a PGA Tour superstore or Golf Galaxy; no need to go on any fancy fittings for now; just see which driver feels best in the latest ones.

Had trouble raising my lead heal during backswing. I hit a few pushes and a lot of pulls. As I have always kept my lead foot down, I couldn’t figure out where the weight went. It got better when I tried to keep the weight in the back swing on the inside of my right foot’s arch and heal. It got dark and could experiment further. Am I on the right track?
Hi Shawn, been doing this drill for a month. Revisited it as somehow the one leg drill didnt work out that’s gonna be another post on another video.
As for this drill I almost want to NOT go back to feet apart. 165 carry head wind with my 7 iron dead center of the green again and again.
Doing it so well! How does it help in the real world /in the golf swing? Can hit my driver to my wedge with feet together , people on the range have started telling me to adopt this as my golf swing!

Great stuff and yes, you can play a relatively flat course feet together and shoot par; no problem! If you have a very hilly golf course, it is not as effective. “ Feet together back to feet apart” video is next!

with the feet together the first few shots after selecting a target always start left / pulls. Then I default to taking an IP and it just becomes clean and true.
Having a slight problem with my divots, no complaints in the ball striking, but divots are huge may strike oil one of these days. With feet together its brushing the grass , with tilt and feed apart ball first but deep divots! Any video on this.
Yes, always being task oriented, use the “2 tee drill perpetual motion drill” and send 2 tees about 4 inches apart in the direction you want to start the ball. The 2 tees would represent your divot; if you go too deep, you miss the 2nd tee too much under.
Hi Shawn, feet together has become so easy. Was at the range today doing the 2 tee drill. Are they to be spun like the you tube video where they are laid flat or are they pushed in Standing? Was able to spin them and get both easily.
Did the perpetual motion with the divots. Felt my arms being pulled towards the target like a stretch. Problem that’s persisting is that if I raise my lead foot, hit behind or very deep divots. But after the Perpetual motion and my normal swing Hit 130y target with a pw , excellent results.
You had commented on how my arms wraps around my chest during bk-swing and I have been noticing you have such freedom and space between your lead arm and chest during the top of your backswing, while my lead arm is across my chest through my shoulder with hardly any gap. I know this is not ideal, but just cant get it away.
Hey Shawn, The one legged drill am not sure where I am going wrong. After doing the feet together which was sublime, I switched to this, few good shots with a 6 iron, and then I just shanked , dead right into the range fence. Usually with playing the “clement” swing, i can figure it out but this seems to have gotten away.
Some don’t do well with the one leg; when doing feet together, pay attention to the rotation of the left leg; how it stays together with the right when the knees don’t split apart. The left femur and knee should work EXACTLY the same way on one leg. But if you do well with feet together, you have what you need to continue to evolve nicely with your golf; one leg would simply be a bonus and don’t fret if it’s mot for you! 😀👍

My lead arm is so stuck to my chest, and I see the distance between yours and the chest. Its all down to the turn which yours is so amazingly flexible and the “heaving”.
Also I notice you end the swing so wonderfully where the feel of what comes next is felt, mine I now realize goes that little bit longer extra which I now know is to compensate for my lack of turn during the bs.
This is one of my favorite videos Shawn (hard to pick, you have so many greats). I like how you emphasize the release going back and through, and it’s great to see you miss left when you use too much effort (this way we can understand why this is happening to us). Two things I’m currently focused on is giving it time before starting down (using gravity or the weight of the club) ….and very importantly for me…consciously releasing going back. It’s so easy to do this with perpetual motion, but when starting from a static position I really have to think about this, and do this with effort (even more effort with driver vs iron). Is this a common issue for folks? Seems like the importance and awareness of this cannot be underestimated.
Yes, this is a good solid tree you are barking up! The PMD shows the way to what the backswing needs to be to have that full kinetic chain releasing into the direction we want to start the ball; but then, when we focus on that feel of that “momentum already there” and taking us into that snap towards that window where we want to start the ball, the brain finally figures out where the backswing needs to be to get that.

What changed in Sav’s swing from taking out deep divots and then thin to perfect divots. Was it effort that made her take deep divots?
Deep divots has less access to target; too much resistance; as you get better at delivering through the ball and towards the target, the divots get more streamlined
