    Hey Shawn, great video. How do i use this and Goldilocks to stop a swing that’s too inside to out (shallow way too much in down swing)?
    Thanks

      The very best way to do this is to hit fades and perfect them! Hit 80% of your shots as fades at first…
      Hitting both fades and draws will balance the swing in an exquisite way! The fades will start like smaller draws and as you continue, they will get more streamline and when they start to fade, then you can go back and hit 50% ratio of fades and draws.

      Is it normal to be 15 yds shorter fading.

      Yes, you bet! One club difference id par for the course; a bit more with short irons and a bit less loss of distance with longer irons and woods

    Now Matt has a kind of Daniel Berger back swing :-). I used that trick of teeing a little lower with the driver and use the top of the grass as a reference point and it worked miracles, that day I did hit 80% of my fairways.

    Hi Shawn. Do you find that people who have a backswing that is too “inside” tend to have a problem getting collapsed ?

    • From Shawn Clement on Purpose of the Backswing

      In general yes; but some, like Ray Floyd can raise the backswing like the baseball player raises his arms as the pitch is delivered before they get it up to the kinetic chain for it to get caught!
      I will do a video on what we can learn from young Tommy Morrissey; check this one out:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_EzvuGL0Ks&t=92s See how he uses the back of his neck to pop the club up into a position where he squats the downswing into action through the shot! Shawn

    Shawn, I came across this video today. It is highly representative of your teachings…just a different approach. I’d be interested to hear your comments on it (about the instructor and his methods, not necessarily about the author of the video per se).

    Thanks as always!

      Hi Shawn
      I love your tempo and your ease. It’s a great example for me !
      But I’m embarrassed with the head club. When you throwing the club, we can see, in slow motion, that the head club is 15cm upward the ground and I cannot understand that without manipulating.
      ?????

      Hi Poldi! This is where the “prediction to contact” is massively important!
      1-You have an action to target such as Throwing
      2-what do you want in the way of this throw?
      3-get into a position at address that will allow the sole of club to cut the grass IF YOU THROW TO TARGET.
      See the “predict contact” video in premium.

      Interesting chap for sure but you can tell his experience is very limited and I would not be surprised if he had watched a few of my videos! 😝😝
      Some good nuggets for sure but structure is lacking…

    Shawn,
    When you take your grip do you want to take it with the club upright (umbrella/clubhead in the air) or on the ground (clubhead on the ground)?
    Also, do you align the clubface closed and then take the grip (turn the club face closed, take grip) OR have the club face square and take a strong grip (keep club face square, align hand to be closed)?
    How you take the grip seem pretty important, because if I change the method of taking the grip, the consistency changes.

    Sean,
    I am hitting the ball better and more powerfully with these drills. One problem i am having is my ball is going on too low a trajectory on my longer irons even when the swing feels good the ball goes straight and i hit the sweet spot.

    Shawn,
    Have you looked at Mike Malaska Youtube posts? His “move” is to tip the club on the downswing to bring the club in an arch toward the ball with the hands inside the arch back to the address position. I think he is in agreement with most of what you teach with the exception of the initial move on the downswing. Your thoughts on this tipping of the club on the initial part of the downswing.

    Thanks

      Saw that, yes; and really not a fan of that move unless you are so far inside, and you need to perform that a few times to right the ship; which would be for 1% of golfers…

    So I’m pretty sure I’m a cronic collapser. I think I started doing it because I was trying to get the weight of the club to sit on my trail hands knuckle. Like a waiter carrying a tray. Ill have to remember to watch this video again in spring. Have to go into golf hibernation for the winter.

    Hi Shawn, great reminder on the grip. Will make sure to check and correct if necessary.

    Interestingly, you mentioned the position of your right elbow tends to fly off as you ‘collapse’ that way. Now you have it tightly tucked by your side as you complete the bs. I have the same problem.

    My question is: Does this ‘tucked in’ position a function of a mechanical correction? Or you were able to correct this by matching your backswing to your intended task? Is it a mechanical thing or a feel thing?

    Thanks!

      Very good Sandy!
      It is both a FEEL within the task;
      Football drill videos in premium will show you the way and I combined this with hitting fades a bit more often;

    Shawn you should get off using Vimeo. The videos start off being fuzzy with auto. You have to then select the 1080 0r 720 to get clear plus you cannot do slow motion with them. When I watch on youtube they are almost always sharp.

    Another great video – thanks! I was just curious about your opinion of the teaching of Chuck Quinton from Rotary Swing Golf. Do you find his teaching compatible with Wisdom in Golf?

    Thanks in advance and your teaching has transformed my game completely!

    • From Shawn Clement on Grip Update

      Chuck is a very positional guy; he does not understand that we are Pinnochio without the strings;
      If he looks at a swing, he will focus on “perceived defects in swing positions” that don’t fit what we see in tour players.

      If we presented brain scans of images that pros have in their minds before they pull the trigger, they would be different than whatbwe see in people trying to hit specific positions.

      Find a task that lights you up both mentally and physically and get good at that! The positions will come all by themselves!

      YES< exactly as I thought. No focus or even mention about the task and the target and the height and shape. No 'plan' for the task at hand.

      Thanks for the reply and the confirmation….looking forward to continued improvement and enjoyment!

      Definitely worth trying the I-blade which will be the closest by far and the I-210 which is blade look-feel-performance but a bit more forgiving; not that you are going to need it coming from blades anyways! 😝👍

      Depends on the player and the equipment being used!
      Try and find a fitting center that uses GC Quad machines and who has a full fitting contingent like ‘true Spec”
