I caught myself trying to force the downswing which was causing misses left and right. So today I just let it fall, and I stopped trying help myself with a hip/leg thrust. Boom. Nice and straight. I am getting huge distance now, hope it continues. I guess you have to give up control to get control.

Hi Shawn, just wanted to leave a comment about how happy my son was today. So he just finished his jr golf tournaments for the summer. This year he had to start from the ladies tees and play 9 holes . He started out in the 60s. I’ve given him some tips I’ve learned from watching Alex Fortey and he dropped to the low 50s. Today he played your setup , braced , club closed and tilted.
We played 9 holes and he shot a 47. I can’t tell you how happy he was watching his strokes drop. Thanks for all you do!

Some days I am spot on accurate with my short irons and other days I’m hitting them all over the place and the swings feel the same. That is the most frustrating part of my game right now.

Does your swing to the ball feel exactly like your throw?

Great insight Shawn. That “skipping the stone” motion really clicked for me. I practice that feel every day I hit balls. I believe this is the reason I am hitting the ball so far especially with my irons.

Seems to me that Brooks Koepka must have a bunch of “modern golf” witchdoctors angry because he doesn’t pound balls and hardly practices. He says when he’s playing his best he doesn’t even remember his round. Talk about a guy who has discovered that focusing on the target is the path to scoring. IOW exactly what Shawn has been telling us for years. When I look at his swing it looks to me like he is simply throwing the club the way Shawn instructs. He could actually hit it better if he used the ground better, shocking thought.

I just subscribed last night at 11:00pm. This looks like it would cause my mind to want to scoop the ball instead of hit down on it, or are you still hitting down on the ball like people refer to? What am I missing? I really have a great desire to learn as much and as fast as I can from you.

The old ways of thinking are “hit down on the ball” which makes the ball the target and gets the swing too steep. Those who scoop are thinking of lifting the ball from the ground and that is just as bad.

WHEN YOU FOCUS ON CUTTING THROUGH THE STEM OF THE DANDELION, things change in a hurry. The club stays ALONG THE GROUND and not into it; the lag caused by the action of cutting through gets you WAY MORE POWER and now, the next step is to make sure the club face is CLOSED ENOUGH for the ball to hold it’s line and get compressed.

    Agree Mick10.
Mentally I like the left handed ( i’m a righty) frisbee throw. Left foot grounded with the weight of the Frisbee/arm unit waiting for permission to sling when i’m out of the way. Super lag, nice kinetic chain and my brain is learning (for the most part) to think “I’m going out there”, NOT down to the ground. Love throwing clubs but range staff think i’m nuts. J.

Hi Shawn. Revisited the putter series. I am using Odyssey centre shafted putter. Left hand low. Not grounded after Goldilocks. My mind is very much on NOT hitting the ball but using momentum/weight of APU.
    I’m wondering about contact.
Should the putter head be flowing up at contact, be going parallel to the ground or (not likely) contacting down to the ball?
Should the back of the ball be at the sternal notch ( level contact starting to rise) or the front of the ball (feels like hitting down too much)?
My mind is very much on NOT hitting the ball. Thanks. J.

      Good Stuff Jeremy!
Impact as the putter is parallel to ground; not going up or down; ball forward of an APU hanging from shoulder sockets with solid grip just slightly above grass by a mm or 2. This way, if you prefer to place a bit more weight on the front foot, the ball position with adjust naturally for that.

So I’ve played shortstop and skipped many a stone in my younger days. When I try to replicate that feeling with the golf club it feels flippy in the hands and I’m missing that under/through feeling. I’ve done the club throw but it is always separated quite it bit in time from hitting balls. I’ve not found a place where I could do both in close proximity of time. Any idea what I can do to remedy this?

    Hi Shawn!

Just wondering if you ascribe a weight percent per leg at address ex: left leg 60% right leg 40%?
    Thanks,

  • From Paul Haber on Grip Update

    Hi Shawn,

At the top of my backswing (right handed) when I allow the hinge, I often feel the club moving in the palm of my left hand. Usually happens with the driver. I believe I am applying the grip properly. Could this be an issue with the grip size? I was fitted using the “traditional” swing and neutral grip. Or more likely user error??

Thoughts on following DeChambeau to jumbo max?

    • From Shawn Clement on Grip Update

Definitely user error! That club should feel air tight and vacuum sealed at any given point in the swing; see “stop destroying your golf glove shawn clement” on you tube which is a great acid test to the grip!

Sorry , I may be over thinking this and you couldn’t have made a better video.
If our target is the flag, do we line up parallel to the flag ? Positioning the ball back of center causes an in to out for draw and forward of center is more of out to on for fade?

    Hi Shawn!

Just wondering if you’re visualizing the base of the dandylion stem do that you contact the ball on the lower grooves of the face? If not can you tell me where you’re imagining it being.

    Thanks a bunch,

    Matt

      Yes, pretty much!
You predict that when you cut through at ground level, that the ball will get stamped by the center of the face; and it does!! 😀👍
