  • From Paul Haber on Winter Student Series

For those of us in winter states without access to an indoor golf facility, what at home drills would you recommend? Specifically, I was beginning to see some constancy with feeling my release at the target instead of at the ball.  I have room for the the perpetual motion drill but my wife will not allow me to throw the club in the basement. What can I add to winter indoor program 🙂

shawn , this really helps nail it seeing the sequencing going on . not pulling down from top which throws a monkey wrench in my swing.letting gravity drop the club down to keeping the arc true.staying behind the ball ,right elbow and hands leading club head, then slinging hammer out to target
    thx

shawn, the ryp stick training since august netted me 6 mph more
club spd at 105 and 10 mph ball speed to 138. with alot less strain might add. plus the dispersion on my shots is narrowing down.
thx for the videos. I broke 90 for first time this from the back tees
    be blessed,

Just started on video #1. You mentioned something that really made sense. I short circuit my task when I feel something “off”, usually at the top of the backswing (i.e. “oh no, my wrists are too bent). When that happens, my brain turns to “oh, oh, I have the wrong body position”. This lesson allows me to stay on task all the way through. In order for task to trump, the mind has to experience the movement, so the brain can forget the movement. Hope this post makes sense!

Just saw this! Awesome! See “stick your finish despite the ball” as a great add on as well as “target confirmation series”
You can use the practice swing all you want to gather the feel of the backswing but then pay attention to the feel of the THROUGH SWING it gives you when you execute the task to target. Then it is task to target with that feel! 😀👍👌

Shawn is appear that your shaft is almost over your head at the top of your backswing whereas i always thought it would be over your trail shoulder? I tried that and i feel too steep. Thanks

Frisbee, “under the bar”. Funny how a simple analogy can give a fresh twist on using the tool properly! Thanks Shawn, Mu!

Shawn, the under the bar was an aha moment. When you did the heave too far outside then more inside i noticed how when you did it to stay under the bar, your shaft was more between your head and tip of shoulder. I had always been told the shaft should be more on tip of shoulder. Got a heavy club and experimented and there was the aha. Terrible balance with club on tip of shoulder really fighting to stay in balance. When more between head and shoulder felt like I could stay there effortlessly. Tried my click stick and made it click without any effort. Tried old way and hard to click and when did it was with lots of effort. Excited to take to course tomorrow!

Aloha – Can you describe how to do the pre-turn in the setup that you describe (from a feel perspective). At times I think I am doing it but maybe not

    Hi Shawn,

I wondered if you have more videos on swivel other than this and searched for none.
I have subscribed WIG for more than 10 years and found recently this short swivel lesson is one of “the most important lesson” Do you have more videos on swiveling? If not please make some more detaied one and have it lauched on the list. I would appreciate !!!

Thank you for the feedback Whasung! In the meantime, see “superslow-super relaxed-super wide” series, which really forces you to swivel, and then feel this swivel in the “perpetual motion drill series” where when you are in perpetual motion, you are aware of the body gliding out of the way of the arc-club unit in both directions and finally, the “walking drill” and “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series” especially #6 is really amazing to achieve this action. When you see “weight shift with Savy” and understand that the finishing of the swivel-turn in the backswing positions the body optimally to engage the ground in the downswing with the lead side, this is key!
      Does this make sense?

Thank you Shawn for your recommendation of a series of videos in order !! Actually I have been plagued by the reverse tilt at the top of back swing. I hope I can find a key solution out of your lessons recommended. FYI I am 75 years old, 5 and half feet, 140 lbs hitting driver 210 yards in average. I wish I could hit 210 meters.

      Thank you, Whasung

  • From Hunter Tuggle on Walking Drill

Hey, Shawn! I’ve been tasked with mastering the walking drill and I was wondering if there is a “more efficient” and “less efficient” way to master it. Should I spend 10 minutes before a round practicing, should I dedicate a whole range session only hitting through the walking drill? If you could offer some guidance, I’d really appreciate it!

Hi Hunter! I would definitely dedicate some range time on that! Master that drill and you have mastered the golf swing my man!! Do it till the cows come home or at least for 10 minutes per club with a wedge, 7 iron, hybrid or long iron and Driver!

Shawn, I noticed that you planted your front foot while throwing the frisbee. Then when you swung your club, your front foot stayed planted. However, in the no arm series, your front foot was sliding a bit.

Hi Shawn. Does every shot need to be handled this way or the PMD and Ball on a string feel can take care of it?

So glad I joined this site. Really breaking it down, my game has improved greatly by just watching the you tube videos. The hammer driving the nail picture/feel has shot my drive out to 280 with the occasional 300. Game changer. I am 60 with bad knees and a shoulder replacement but using your principles I have a solid pain free swing. Its simple. Thanks!

  • From Brian Corcoran on UNSTOPPABLE MOMENTUM SERIES: PART 3 - Open & Closed Face

Closing the face seems to work great with shorter clubs. Longer irons and woods snap hook city.

    • From Shawn Clement on UNSTOPPABLE MOMENTUM SERIES: PART 3 - Open & Closed Face

Very common! Because you can have 1500 RPM left spin with a wedge, but that is snap hook on driver! And many need to close the face less on woods as the face is rounded (called bulge) and causes the face to look more open than it is which causes many to over close. Keep feeling that nice release past the IP into the direction of flight and when you see a pattern of too much curve left, keep opening the face until you see what you want.
