Hey Shawn, I have difficulty trying to duplicate the feel of sword slashing when i use two hands vs one. My takeaway is much worse and I feel the weight a lot less too
Most of the time, the issue is in the way the lead hand yields; once you get that lead hand to snap over, by allowing the lead elbow to snap down which catapults the back of the lead hand over the ping pong ball for that top spin back hand release!
I played yesterday and was really having difficulty getting to my front foot. Probably not completing my backswing. Whether it was fatigue or something else what do I do during the round to prevent myself from hanging back. I tried to concentrate on my target to kick in my kinetic chain(WWSCD: what would Shawn Clement do) but , it just wasn’t happening yesterday.
best video ever played for many years with inconsistancy bur the hammer analogy took the scales from my eyes and reevolutioned mt speed and accuracy. followed you for a few years bur did not get it completel until this video many thanks.,

It’s been awhile since I’ve used your stuff and I’ve gone down the rabbit hole of conventional instruction. My game improved but I’m constantly thinking about positions and technique. What videos would you recommend for practice to begin tapping back into a more natural swing and continue improving my golf? Thanks!
So this video has been my self-imposed focus, especially on the downswing…. smash the windows on the garage door. It really me to use the kinetic chain and not engaging the ACU too soon. Works great for my irons and fairway woods. However, in today’s round this same thought with driver is causing me to clip the ground before hitting the ball. Could I possibly be overcooking the garage door thing. Maybe just slightly crack the windows? Shrug. Thoughts?
Simply match the same action with clipping the tip of tee on the way up! The driver should never hit the ground unless you are hitting it off the deck;
See “hammer throw driver” in the throwing series
Thanks, Shawn. That hammer throw is helpful. Then, I read through the comments where someone had a similar issue, and you suggested the ball above the feet video. So it would seem that there an adjustment to the downswing based the club…. as you demonstrated with the long hitting stick. So, is fair to picture the swinging to the target as a straight line (actually arc) from three points…. top of the wing, tip of the tee, target? Spending time with Goldilocks as my downswing may be driving in a plane is closer to my irons, which would steeper.
Yes, short irons are steeper because of the shorter shaft; see “grass whip training” video and do this with all clubs; and you will notice that the G-force of the swing based on the length of the club and your body with iron out the plane on all of them.
Don’t go there! Your eyes are not in the usual place compared to “traditional instruction”
Stay with the task at hand and feel what you need to be able to deliver the task; see “top 3 tasks” and “task trumps everything” videos
This is an oldie but goodie (2018). What a difference. The blur for me is several inches further away – as in distance to ball – from where I set up without the blur. And, automatically without thinking, I am able to stick to the “throwing the club task” as I have so much more room and my head stays behind the ball. It is impossible for me to go “over the top” from this position! Fantastic, gold medal vid!!!
Totally agree. Before I was seeing the blur too far out. When I line it up to go over the ball I feel like I’m ssssoooo far away from the ball but very freeing!
Great video! This is exactly what I need for the driver. I am going to set up a daily workout that includes the three tee drill. Can we get a close up on the height and distance between the tees. I believe this will help my driver issue of hitting the ground behind the driver.
I have been working on my backswing…. throwing the club to the top vs. slowly moving the club to the top. The later seems to provide a bit more control by keeping a tone in the arm club unit, where throwing the club to the top sometimes makes for loss of control at the top. Does this make sense?
In Part 5, I noticed that with your draw shot using the driver, that you appear to be playing the ball just in front of center. This sort of scares me in the execution of thinking that the club can go under the ball and sky it… leaving a mark on the top of my driver. What are the key points to removing this as a possibility?
PREDICTION!! See “predict contact” and the “goldie locks series” and then my favourite driver video so far is in the Throwing series driver hammer throw”.
Hey Shawn, great video. The leading hand (left hand) has always been a struggle for me. Perhaps my right hand is more dominant so it overpowers my left hand and causes my left hand to cave inwards after the release instead of fully extending forward. Would consciously letting my left hand take over on the down swing help with this?
Hi Calvin!
That collapse can easily be you not staying with the direction you want to start the ball;
2 things for you: see “target confirmation series” and match that up with “lead hand release” and see if it makes it easier to execute the full task.
Received my KC Golf grasswhip yesterday and unwrapped – went to back yard and actually cut some stems off of actual dandelions. Very good visuals! Just a few swings and truly felt how everything releases through with the weight of the “arm club unit” – now waiting for it to stop raining so I can go cut through some tees and progress through the drills. Definitely can tell this is going to be one very useful tool!!! With a nice Wisdom in Golf logo’d medallion on it as well!!!!!
Hi Shawn !
Great video which reminded me that last year you gave me the advice to close the face in order to promote a «hand first movement».
I had a try today in the practice and some fairways and it went nice (about 160-165 meters with an 8 iron – measured with a telemeter).
I had also sometimes some powerful pull shots or some hooked ones.
It seems to me that it is very important to keep the upper body behind the ball in order to have the proper ball flight. If you go back and forth with the head (in the target direction) as I sometimes do, the face remains close at impact.
In other terms, what could be the cause of a pull or a hooked shot ?
Hi Pierre!
See the “through the ball” videos on premium as well as “pre-motor cortex series” and “target confirmation series” which are SO CRUCIAL to the proper delivery of the shots!
So, the pause at the top is the completion of the heave? And then gravity begins the change of direction? Am I getting right?
Thanks for your response.
