Shawn, at 12:55 and other examples throughout the video you show the complete release with full supination of the left hand at the horizontal left direction to the target with the club face almost fully turned over instead of having the toe upright in most other instruction. Will this work without causing the ball to pull or even hook? Can you explain. If I attempt to do this I generally get hooks. How does this work?

Hey Richard! Sorry for the delay; the website had to be upgraded for new standards of emails that carry messages to my mailboxes; just a jungle out there!
the key to this release is the fact that you are allowing the weight to release you in the direction you want to start the ball and NOT AT THE BALL. It will feel the way it looks when you allow things to happen and allow the lead hand to fully supinate in it’s yield.
everyone is different for sure and you can easily be an exception, but most never get there without this kind of understanding.

i notice your head moves up on back swing and you go back down on down swing.
is that okay? i notice the pros head only goes down.

This is changing out there Rich! PGA teacher of the year this year, Mark Blackburn, just put out a video not long ago stating this: TO GET A SOLID HOLD OF THE GROUND IN THE DOWNSWING, YOU NEED TO COME UP IN THE BACKSWING!!! Can you finally (after 15 years of teaching this to my students and getting the same question you just asked 😝😱) hear the choir singing? See “pumping up the swing” and “feet together back to feet apart” videos on premium; and my oldie but goodie on youtube is called “create serious speed shawn clement” ENJOY!!! Because your machine is BUILT TO DO THIS seamlessly and naturally WAY MORE than the alternative!

For me, the walking drill also encourages the coveted natural pause at the top. The brain is waiting for that lead foot to plant in the right spot before it releases everything into the downswing. I feel like the ACU is hovering forever. Terrific drill when you get ‘quick’ at the top. Now that I think about it, this should always be a part of warm up before playing. Take that sweet sensation out on the course.

    Hi Shawn,

I’m a 6 and a physician and having a dramatic improvement following your task/biomechanic philosophy.

I have a consistent error of getting steep through transition and then saving through impact. Exhausting way to to play!

I have recently adopted tucking the right elbow on the takeaway and creating a feeling of a “closed kinetic movement” with my arms. It feels like I can fire with my body and capture centrifugal force because my arms are just levers unloading the energy. Plus, I am confident getting back to ball because it feels like a closed kinetic movement with clubhead geared to return to starting position.

Finally the question: is there a downside to having right elbow “too tucked” or elbows too close together? Otherwise, I’m just gonna keep exploring this motion since it makes swing effortless.

So sorry I missed this! My website has stopped sending me email notifications and I am scrambling to catch up! 😝👍😅🤯
not knowing exactly where you are coming from with your swing, I have seen so many get into trouble with this one; this is where the “football drill series” of videos come in! And I would also see our “kinetic chain series” and “throwing series” to compliment! Looking forward to your feedback! Shawn

    Hi Shawn
My issue with draws is I am not able to stay right of the IP through the shot. My draw starts from the target and then draws.

GOLDIE LOCKS!! Exaggerate the ball position way back and the action to the right of the target; also see the video I did with Savy on premium called “draw from left side of the range”

This has been the golden nugget for me! I tend to come across the line with my back swing, so lo and behold, I also struggle with fades. Now I know why! Thanks Shawn

    Hi Shawn
Is the intermediate point a direct line between the ball and the pin or does it depend on shot you are making.

      Hi Dave! Sorry for the delay; the website is not sending me the email notifications;
as for the IP, not necessarily; you find anything close to the target and use it to create your shot’s flight plan: say you want to draw and the IP is a bit right; you line up left edge of it and release over the IP to match the shot starting right and coming back to the target. Make sense?

So cool that that last shot you hit was DIRECTLY over the tee/“carrot peel” that you had hit just before. This is such a fun way to play golf Shawn, thank you so much!

Working with Donna on tempo and transitional pause allowing the momentum to accelerate beyond the ball. Lead shoulder feels naturally moving up and don’t have to think consciously about what the right elbow is doing. Effort level drops dramatically and accuracy and distance come along for the ride. So nice when a plan comes together.

  • From Brian Wright on Working the Ball Strategies

Hi Shawn really enjoying the teaching and videos. I’ve always played all my clubs from the same ball position, just inside the left heel. Brought up reading Jack Nicklaus books. I can pick the ball pretty well in this position and really benefit from the club throwing thought you teach, but I can’t fade or draw the ball on demand. It feels really strange to shift the ball position around. Should I work on moving my ball position back?
    Cheers

The way to do this is to 1-pick a flight plan and then 2 use “the goldie locks series” and the “arc-blur unstoppable momentum series”, “draw fine tuning” and “fade fine tuning” videos to match your set up to your flight plan! Take your time and don’t worry about where to put the ball position, find the ball position that allows you to deliver freely into your moving pictures!

Always enjoy watching all three of you perform the task! The view of you at the end really helped me see the way your arms almost look parallel to target line on the backswing. As opposed to the example you showed of coming inside too much and getting bunched up. I tried to visualize how your arms would look during that “too inside” backswing. The contrast between the two will help me as I tend to swing around myself rather than up and through – which usually produces a hook instead of a draw.

Great lesson. There so much in this. And really wonderful to see the progress in Mu’s swing and Sav’s fitness over the last two years. Walking the walk, guys. I’ve been working on the athletic stance and forward shaft lean lately. Things are really coming together. Even my terrible putting has become pretty hot!
